  1. Dual booting is definitely possible :) ! I'm typing this from my E6410 running Windows 8.1 and OS X 10.9!

From Windows, get a program like Minitool Partition Wizard and shrink the Primary partition to whatever size you want (just make sure it's greater than about 8-10 GB; I just split my disk in half, so half for windows and half for OS X) and then reboot into the OS X installer and format the second part of the disk as "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)."

Remember, MBR disks can only handle 4 partitions, so if you have 3 partitions dedicated only to Windows, you'll need to remove at least 1 to install OS X, because OS X needs 2 (one for OS X, the other as an EFI partition). Take a look here to find out how to remove the Windows "System Reserved" partition (do parts 1 and 3 without BootIt). Also, if you have a "Reader" partition, that can be removed too if you don't use it.

Also, if you get the error from the installer again, try recreating the installer and selecting "yes" in myHack to MBR Support. It should throw back an error, saying 10.9 doesn't have support yet, but when it finishes, just add the files from the MBR support folder and you should be good to go.

  2. Hi Patel4Prez,

First of all, just to congratulate you for the great guide to install Mavericks!

I would like to give you some suggestions about your guide, but I'm not sure if it's the right topic. Let me know where is the best place to do so.

Not sure if you already have the SD card reader working, but mine is working fine so far.

I haven't tested extensively, and it's impossible to cover all the scenarios. Just reading and writing on my E6410.

Let me know if you want to cover on a new topic.

    Thanks,

    Pablo Iglesias

    Hi Brainlobe,

In order to have the shutdown working properly, you will need to patch the DSDT. At least worked for me.

You can find a patched DSDT.aml for Latitude E6410 in the topic of Patel4Prez to install the Mountain Lion. The link is below:

    https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1695-e6410-mountain-lion-guide/

Search for the file "E6410 ML 10.8.4.zip", extract the DSDT.aml file and save it in /Extra of your Mavericks installation.

After this, you need to edit the "/Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist" and insert the lines below:

    DSDT

    /Extra/DSDT.aml

You can use the Chameleon Wizard that's easier to edit the "/Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist" file.

After, just reboot to read the DSDT.aml configs. Try to shutdown and check if it works for you.

    Hope it helps!

    Thanks,

    Pablo Iglesias

    Hey Pablo,

    Thanks for your contributions!

How did you get the SD Card Reader to work under Mavericks?

I will try and add the Shutdown fix to the troubleshooting section of the guide ASAP.

  3. Hi Patel,

After this re install system. I used  other wifi kext and this still working.

Problem is Post install, i passed this problem with chameleon.

After the install and setup every adjustment, i tray the fix iMessages problem. for those Fallow "deano019" system but now i have a big trouble, my iCloud didn't working, i tray the connection but like i messages problem. Also my App Store like this :)

    Thanks for everything.

Do you have a working network connection?

  4. I'm not sure if this represents progress on the sleep issue, but it's a new avenue for investigation.  I noticed today that if you press Fn+F1 that the system will go to sleep like it should (unlike trying to select "sleep" from within OS X, which only darkens the display but everything keeps running).  Unfortunately, pressing the power key to re-awaken the system must cause a kernel panic because the system won't come back to life and requires a hard restart.

    Good to know...

I believe the Fn+F1 is a sleep command built into the BIOS, so instead of OSX managing the take down of all the components, the laptop's BIOS does...

That could be totally wrong. That's just my theory.

  5. I'm confused...  I have built following the guide, I installed the ethernet kext also listed in the guide.  I have Ethernet no problem.  I purchased a Dell broadcomm based wifi card and now have wi-fi no problem (the DW1510; I HIGHLY recommend it; it was recognized without needing any reconfig).

I have problems shutting it down, but I assume that is related to the sleep issues which I see is an ongoing problem.  However, I have to enter -f to get it to work properly.  I ended up adding it as a permanent kernel flag in /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist.

Is needing the "-f" a problem that I should work to rectify?  Some googling nets pages that say the -f is "sometimes needed on later releases no one really knows why don't worry about it", but I figured I would seek the consensus of the group here.

The -f can be fixed by changing the "UseKernelCache" in org.chameleon.boot.plist to "No"...

  6.

first of all, millions of thanks to patel4prez.

i followed every step in the guide, i came across the 104% and i saw the gray apple logo and the spinning logo.

then there is no any response at all.

i tried the verbose mode. got some messages as following:

    attachicon.gif20131104_152434.jpg

    what should i do?

    many thanks!

  7.

    Hi patel4prez,

Thank u for  your good work.

    I have couple problems.

Fallow all things but my sound, wifi and first time boot loader didnt working.

All time i must use "-f" if i don't, after gives kernel panic.

After I use multi beast 6.0, bootloder is working now but wifi doesn't work. sound stable, volume working just one line, u cant take of or down.

I passed sleep problem, u can use multi beast 6.0 for this.

    Best regards

    Hi,

I am a complete newbee on OSX and Hackingtosh

Yesterday i started on my E6410 i7 nVidia.

Creation of the usb and the installation after where whitout errors.

Restarting gave me the boot0 error, but i fix that this morning by removing the voodoops2 mouse and keyboard.

Not working are wifi, ethernet and sound.

I have an Intel Centrino 6250 AGN Wifi and i will replace that.

I have an Intel 82577 LM Gigabit ethernet that will not work after the intel patch.

Does anybody have a suggestion about the ethernet?

Did you run the Post Installation app after installing? Did you change the name of the USB drive after myHack created the installer?

  8. If you're referring to the one in the 2nd response there, it didn't end up working for me.  I was hoping the 64 bit one that was found via google might be a good alternative, unless it's the same one.

To clarify, I put it on the usb boot stick I was using in /extra, and ran myfix, and also tried putting it directly on the hackintosh in /extra and ran myfix (Both times as full), and osx still doesn't seem to find the ethernet adapter.

Did you open up System Preferences -> Network, -> wait for the confirmation message -> and hit Apply?

  9. I'll check what can I do about the wireless card, now about the Intel HD issue, do you know how can I get at least the Core Image you mentioned? Also, could you explain a bit further on this topic? I'm not sure I understand completely.

    Thanks again!

    Hey enveous,

First off, let's talk about your problem. I trust you removed the AppleIntelHDGraphics.kext and AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB.kext? If you did, try typing "graphicsenabler=no" at boot and seeing if that solves your problem. If it does, I have a few more steps to give you to make it permanent.

Now, about the Quartz Extreme/Core Image (QE/CI), (according to my extremely limited understanding) they are both parts of Hardware Acceleration in regards to Graphics. Some video cards are completely unsupported and won't support QE/CI at all. Others only support CI or QE, whilst others support both QE/CI. The Intel graphics on your E6410 support CI only.

  10.

I applied the same fix and got further into the boot process without KP.  Instead, my boot hangs at the following point:

10/28/13 9:56:56.000 PM kernel[0]: NTFS volume name Windows, version 3.1.
    10/28/13 9:56:56.603 PM mds[59]: (Warning) Volume: vsd:0x7fea73814000 Open failed.  failureCount:0 (null)

I have a feeling this is due to the non-standard setup I'm using (OS X installed on a partition of an existing Win 7 drive).  The system still boots find with -f.  Since I'm dual booting anyways, entering -f at startup to start the Mac OS isn't really a big deal, but I wonder what that means for future functionality issues.

Try running a chkdisk /f (the /f to fix any errors found) on windows...I've had this error before and it was due to a windows partition with errors...

  11. After another hour or so of futzing, I was able to get the AppStore, FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud working  by downloading Chameleon Wizard and editing SMbios.plist to generate a real serial number for my system.  My only remaining issue is the need to boot with the "-f" bootflag, and I'm not sure how to get that resolved.

I also edited the org.chameleon.boot using Chameleon Wizard and unchecked the "graphics enabler" and set the resolution to 1440x900x32.  That made an huge difference in the graphics performance.

In the org.chameleon.boot.plist, under "UseKernelCache", change the "Yes" to "No"

  12. You're nearly exactly correct.  On the last BIOS version (n-1, I forget the number), the VoodooPS2controller.kext was problematic and would only boot in safe boot mode.  The reason removing it didn't seem to help was because my bonehead self didn't run myfix after taking it out of Extras/Extensions.  Take all three out, run myfix and it was up and running with n-1 BIOS (although without the keyboard and touchpad)  After updating the BIOS to A15, and putting all three Voodoo kexts back in place, it got a KP with one of the clearest errors I've ever seen.  With that error, it was a simple matter of removing the VoodooPS2keyboard.kext (but leaving controller, which is key to the keyboard and trackpad working) and re-running myfix.

I'm unsure what, if any, problems will arise by not having that keyboard kext.  But for now, it's a standard functional e6410 (everything works except SD card slot and sleep).

Thanks for clearing that up! The previous bios version was A14, for future reference :-) .

If you could test out deano's kexts if/when he gets a chance to post them, that would be great.

Thank you very much guys, for helping me test this out and solve the problems.

  13. Hey guys, I myself have a good update!

I was working on the laptop quite a bit yesterday. I ended up manually installing chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded), then, installing a newer version of FakeSMC (v5.3.820) with plugins. This caused me to get the same KP, but with only one dependency - regarding com.apple.iokit.IOAPCI. So I Installed a AppleACPIPlatform.kext from 10.8.1 and the system booted up!

I replaced/reinstalled the Voodoo kexts to enable my keyboard and mouse and rebooted - no KP.

Currently, my battery status, sound, WiFi, Ethernet, Keyboard, Mouse all work

The only things not working are shutdown (have to hold the button), sleep, iMessage and touchpad scrolling

    Hey deano,

Great news! If you could post the fakesmc and appleacpiplatform kexts in the form of a zip file, that would be great.

And if DLinkOZ can test those out on his current setup (don't install chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded)), and report back. That would be amazing.

  14. See, now I feel a bit silly.  But not entirely, as it still wasn't perfect.  I know the how-to listed the most current BIOS (released earlier this month), but I thought my n-1 was good enough.  Well, I updated the BIOS to A15 and tossed all three voodoo kexts back in.  Kernel panic, but very clearly and without doubt that it was the keyboard kext.  So I took it out, leaving the mouse and controller in, and bob's your uncle I have my keyboard and trackpad working in Mavericks.  So not entirely perfect, but done is done!

    Hey DLinkOZ,

It seems like you pretty much solved the issue, but since I've been extremely busy and not very connected to the forums as of late, can you please give me a quick run-down of what is/how you solved the problem?

From what I understand, the Keyboard/Controller kext mixed with the A15 BIOS is what causes the issue, and the way to resolve it is to remove the keyboard kext....

That might be totally wrong, and if it is, please correct me. I would love to include it in the troubleshooting section of the guide for anyone else that has the same issue.

  15. what chameleon flags/options are you running?or  maybe past your extra folder so one of us can have a look.

+1 to posting the Extra folder. I believe the only chameleon argument he is using is "-x" to get the system to boot...

Also, DLinkOz, if you can post yours, I believe you are having the same error, so we can compare both of your Extra folders
