  1. I think its actually the AR9285 i have. I tried your suggestion but it did nothing. still no wifi, still boots with -v -f. Maybe I have to do that after a clean install, in case the other kext installations mucked it up? I'm only using kext wizard now, installing to s/l/e.
  2. Hey. I've got it mostly working without needing to boot via USB. Still: Need to figure out wifi!! Can't boot without -v -f flags. Here's what I did: 1: I followed Jake Lo's Chameleon guide here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/7478-dell-latitude-yosemite-install-guide/&do=findComment&comment=45213 2: ...Until having to install Chameleon on the USB drive. Instead, I installed Clover with the specifications from this current guide, including copying the EFI folder over. (I had to overwrite because I can't merge folders in Snow Leopard). 3: I swithced back to the Chameleon guide, for install and post install. Then I followed these instructions to make sure the IO80211Family.kext was installed properly for WiFi. [This changed my wifi status from non existent (a little x in a greyed out wifi icon on status bar), to recognizing wifi, but continually searching without finding any networks]. Anyhow I didn't think I needed to try this rebranding the wifi thing you were suggesting for your Broadcom cards because I have an Atheros card, but maybe I'll try that now? If anyone has suggestions in the meantime on a WiFi fix, or a boot without -v -f flags fix, let me know!! ps. I know my wifi card works. (it has worked before with Mavericks and even with yosemite when I briefy had it installed properly with a different method, until I screwed it up)
  3. I'm completely baffled. I had everything working for one day, and then I mucked around with some settings to try stuff out, assuming I could just reinstall. I screwed everything up and had to reinstall fresh, following all the same steps, but I'm at a loss again. the EFI volume does not mount after installing clover, nor does anything install there. (Is there a way to manually do what clover does?) or through Terminal? I tried step one from Jake Lo's post above to no avail. But I know for certain that I had booted direct to the internal drive, with no usb plugged in at least one time, and had wifi working. the only thing not working that time was audio despite having installed the dummy text. was hoping an upgrade of the os would solve, but never got there. I'll post if I have any progress! Quick question, why is installing to the EFI volume necessary. I dont recall having to do this with Mavericks.
  4. Wow! I got it fully working (thus far), thanks Jake Lo! Boots fine without the usb drive plugged in. Even Wi-Fi is working which had mysteriously gone dead in Mavericks. I simply merged the efi folders instead of replacing. I didn't even patch the dsdt, I was using one from Herve's mavericks guide, along with a self-generated ssdt (using rampagedev's guide). I just placed them both into the patched folder on the efi partition. (f4 didn;t seem to generate any files in the origin folder! Might just be the button isn't working.) Have yet to fully test it, but I can confirm that the guide works for an E6420 with Intel HD3000, i5-2520M 1600x900 resolution!
  5. Amendment to previous post, the EFI drive did actually mount this time. Just clarifying, in step 7 of post installation -copying the EFI folder from the usb drive to the EFI partition, am I supposed to overwrite the EFI folder in the EFI partition?
  6. Hi thanks for the swift response. Nevermind this --[The clover bootloader does not load on startup. In the guide it claimed that the EFI volume would mount after entering a certain command into Terminal. However, for me it did not, I mounted it "manually" in Terminal.] I was not really convinced that clover installed to the internal drive properly, because nothing in the EFI partition mount seemed to change and the guide suggested that it would automatically install stuff there. Additionally, the dsdt file I was using to patch had numerous error when I compiled it, and so couldn't be saved. Excuse my ignorance, but when the f4 command on the clover bootscreen dumps the dsdt and ssdt files, where do i find them after to patch. Is there another method to get them? In short, would the problem more likely be incorrect dsdt ssdt files, or improper installation of clover? Yosemite loads fine when the usb drive is plugged in and it looks amazing! So close, but so far!! Any help is appreciated, I will post my findings later.
  7. Hi there! Noticed this hasn't been updated since October. Is there a different method people are using? In any case... I also followed this guide to a t and found the following: -Can only boot my ssd via the external usb, not direct from my ssd -No audio (yes, I used kext wizard to install the dummyhda kext, but it didn't seem to work either) -No Wi-Fi (This may be unrelated as my wi-fi stopped working on my Mavericks hack, hence me trying to upgrade, I might need another new card) My system is an e6420 i5 2520M Intel hd3000 (Just curious, in step 3:13 pressing f4 on the clover boot up screen to dump my dsdt.aml, what exactly does that do? Later when I had to locate my dsdt.aml in the clover/original folder, there was none there, and I just used my pre-patched dsdt file that worked when I built my mavericks hack on the same computer.) Anyhow if anyone has any suggestions for the fix, let me know! Best.
  8. So quick update, I tried your method, and I get a grey screen of death with a cursor that I can move for about 5 seconds, then it freezes. I will take your suggestion Herve, and try to make my own. Thanks Guys!
  9. That sounds possible. I don't think I have the right ssdt. I booted without one, and it did the same thing...
  10. Hi Guys. So I've finally hunkered down to try and do this thing. I used this guide, and following jruschme's lead I used Herve's 1600 x 900 DSDT and transplanted it into jake lo's e6420 Extra pack from his signature (I believe that was the one he was referring to). Doing both a regular and verbose boot, I get the kernel panic over the apple logo "Kernel Extensions in Backtrace: com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement..." I assume this is because my CPU is slightly different. Here are my specs: e6420 BIOS A21 i5-2520M (Not the 2540M that people seem to have made work) HD3000 @ 1600 x 900 I also couldn't find HPET settings in BIOS A21 (I read something about that not sure if it matters here) If someone could point me to the correct files for the i5-2520M, that would be excellent. If it isn't as easy as that, I can post pictures of the specific panics I'm getting, and more info as needed. Thanks so much for your help, and patience. -KW
  11. Hey guys. I'm new to this forum, and to building hackintoshes. I've been reading through the replies and am a little confused. Has the non-working headphone jack problem been solved? if so, could the original post be amended to include the solution? I haven't built my hackintosh yet (using the E6420), and I'm planning to use it for light music production, and hence will definitely need to know if I'm going to be able to use headphones or speakers before I undergo the whole process! This is really such a wonderful resource. Thanks for all the info!
