  1. I have the i7 and 1600x900 screen in my laptop. I upgraded it to 16gb ram, and am running off a hdd installed in a caddy replacing the DVD drive. I didn't think either of those upgrades should change anything related to sleep. When I get home from work tonight I will try replacing those kexts with the versions I have working in my ML install. <br />Thanks
  2. Hi guys, Ive been away from here for awhile, had been running 10.8 Mountain Lion on my E5430 successfully for a year and a half thanks to lots of help I received here. I thought I would like to try upgrading to Mavericks, or Yosemite, but was worried about messing up my existing install, so I followed the excellent guide here by pokenguyen and everything went so smooth! It was extremely easy to follow, and almost everything seems to be working great. So much easier than last time! I only have one major problem with my install though, and that is with sleep. The computer goes to sleep no problem, but when it wakes up, I see the desktop in a frozen state for about 2 or 3 seconds before it reboots. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with sleep, and how I might be able to fix this? Thanks again!
  3. For what its worth, I never did have any luck with the EDP and my core i7 e5430 either. Biggest problem I had was getting accelerated graphics working. See the other e5430 thread for details on how we got it working. I believe there was a hacked appleIntelFramebuffercapri.kext that needed to be installed.
  4. Just an added note, I haven't tried the newer versions at all... Think I am on V2 or V3 on my e5430 bit I have the same issues here. Does not save my preferences and I need to reset then upon each boot.
  5. OK... This is amazing. Installed Debug version first to test it out. Found that touch pad worked, but was almost unusable. Cursor jumping around, needing to press very hard on touchpad for it to detect movement... but 2 finger scroll worked! I went into the prefpane, and the stock trackpad prefpane detected the trackpad this time, and allowed me to make some speed adjustments. Previously, the synaptics prefpane would crash out immediately, but with this new driver it loads! It appears that although each option in the prefpane showed a value, there was actually no value loaded. So by simply changing the values, or checking a box and then unchecking it again, I was able to tweak settings to get everything working fairly well. Finger Z value adjustment made the biggest difference. I was able to set the sensitivity, and get tap to click working. Scrolling tab adjustments got side scrolling working, but its a bit unreliable still.. but definitely usable! Multi Finger Scrolling works, both vertically and horizontally. With this update, the track point is completely unusable. Movements are inverted, and completely erratic. Not a deal breaker though as I dont like to use it as much as I used to with my old thinkpad and tecra. Below is the model detected by the debug version of the driver: 2013-05-19 10:37:15.000 PM kernel[0]: ApplePS2ALPSGlidePoint::identify: Found ALPS Device with ID E7=0x73 0x03 0x0a, EC=0x88 0x08 0x1d
  6. If you think there is a possibility to get this touchpad working better, that is fantastic. As it stands right now, it is usable, but either 2 finger scrolling or edge scrolling would be great! Thanks
  7. OK, strange results on my E5430. I had already tried RehabMan's voodoops2controller.kext a few weeks ago to try it, but it wouldn't work at all for me.. so I had already updated to his FakeSMC.kext. I installed your VoodooPS2Controller.kext to /E/E and copied your VoodooPS2Daemon to /usr/bin with RehabMan's org.rehabman.voodoo.driver.Daemon.plist copied to /Library/LaunchDaemons. Ran MyFix and rebooted. Trackpad and TrackStick work, but only as basic mouse and very slow tracking. Loading Trackpad prefpane gives a message that no trackpad can be found. system.log does not contain anything relating to ALPS model. Instead I do notice this line though: VoodooPS2Trackpad: Identify TouchPad command returned incorrect byte 2 (of 3): 0x00 When loading the debug version, system.log gets flooded with messages like below, and system constantly beeps. 8. Looking forward to trying this on my E5430 when I get home from work tonight. It really is one of the last things that needs improvement on my system to make it completely usable! Not sure if my ALPS touchpad is the same revision as yours, but there has only been one kext I've found to work so far, and there is no scrolling support with it. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for your contribution!
  9. I am using your DSDT at the moment, but also tried the previous DSDT you had posted as well as my own. I never did try SleepEnabler.kext as I was hoping to get it working with the DSDT like your system. I might need to dive in a little deeper and try to learn how to edit my own DSDT. I've decompiled them and looked around, but Ive been a bit overwhelmed and lost and haven't found a good straight forward resource to learn from yet.
  10. I have AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement in /S/L/E and had NullCPUPowerManagement in E/E but if I boot without NullCPU then I get a KP within a minute or 2 of booting. Sometimes it just locks up, other times I get a 'No HPETS available CPU(s) configured incorrectly' I tried the AppleIntelCPU thats in your dropbox in case it was patched or modified but it did not make a difference for me. nsemenov, is your hardware identical to mine? my hw is detailed on post 1
  11. I tried your more recent dsdt last night and had the same results with sleep. When going to sleep, the screen turns off, but the fans keep humming away and keyboard and power button stay lit. Nothing will bring it back from this state and a hard reset is required. The AppleHDADisabler.kext didn't work for me either, but deleting AppleHDA.kext got the audio working with the dsdt. I should have thought of that earlier. I also just ordered an atheros AR5B95 wifi card. I had been using a Dlink DWA-131 usb wifi card, which has worked great for me in SL and Lion on my previous hack, and ML on this unit, but for $5 it would be nice to just have it built in and free up a usb port.

    DW5540

Leon, I was thinking of ordering this card for use in my E5430. This is great news that you got it working in Windows 8. Did you attempt to get it working in Mountain Lion? I was looking at Herve's guide to get the DW5520 working and that is how I came across this card, which looks like it is newer and supports HSPA up to 21mbps instead of the 7.2 of the 5520.
  13. nsemenov, My system was able to boot with your dsdt, but I did not notice any difference in performance. Sleep still does not work with it, and it breaks audio, so I am running without a dsdt still. Back in late January, Dinesh was helping me try to get a dsdt working, but we didnt have any luck enabling graphics after trying several different edits he made to a dsdt, so we assumed there was other problems. I broke my system when trying to update and just set it aside for awhile. It turns out that it was the capri kext that needed modification the entire time. I tried the dsdt and ssdt files he first sent me, and they boot for me as well, though sleep does not work with it either, and I also lose sound when using the dsdt. I think the SSDT files he sent over are working though? I still dont fully understand how the ssdt works, or even what other changes I might need to make when trying to use the dsdt. I think that ssdt's are for speed stepping, which I think are working. I can watch the processor change from 1.19ghz x12 up to 2.87ghz x29 multiplier. Its hard to say for sure because I dont know how to test if everything else is working, but I think this is what remains for me to get working: get sleep working get sound working with dsdt get multitouch / scrolling / gestures working on the touchpad. Scroll only works when holding both right&left buttons. sd card slot, I haven't tried it but it doesnt matter much to me. no audio over hdmi usb3, dont know how to test as I dont have any usb3 devices
  14. Strange that the 3 of us all seem to have different results as far as the graphics go. Platform Id 3 or 4 would not enable accelerated graphics with the stock capri kext from 10.8, 10.8.2, or 10.8.3. Nsemenov's capri.kext enables the HD4000 on 10.8 and 10.8.3 for me without a string, and just by using GraphicsEnabler=Yes. Internal display and HDMI both work with this config. I have the i7 3520M processor, 1600x900 HD Plus Display, and 1 4GB stick of RAM. My system reports 384MB of video RAM. Malone, did your system ship with 16GB ram, or did you upgrade it? I would like to go to 16GB ram, but I've read conflicting reports that 16GB is only available through Dell Configuration Services?
  15. Ok thanks! I put that kext in, and it still wouldn't boot. I read what you mentioned earlier in the post regarding 10.8.3 and replaced AppleACPIPlatform.kext IOBluetoothFamily.kext IOAudioFamily.kext with the ones from your dropbox, and I am now able to boot! Out of curiosity, what processor do you have? I was wondering if the dsdt.aml and ssdt.aml files would also work for my unit, it doesnt look like sleep is working for me at the moment, though now that the system boots there's a lot of other things I should test to see if they work too. I tried the EFI string you posted, along with several others and was never able to get any of them to enable the graphics adapter on my machine. The closest I would ever get was a black monitor on internal display and garbled output on hdmi. Now with nsemenov's AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext I have Intel HD Graphics 4000 384MB reporting, and I get the correct 1600x900 detected on internal display as well as 1080p output to a connected HDMI Monitor.
  16. Good to know there are others having good luck with ML on this laptop. After starting this thread and working on getting mine working for a bit, I eventually gave up after I rendered my system unbootable after trying to update from 10.8.0 to 10.8.2. I never was able to get the HD4000 graphics to work. Every attempt would always result in a black screen (like the monitor turned off). I just gave it a shot last night again with a fresh copy of 10.8.3 but I am only able to boot with -x into safe mode. Even with safe mode I need to boot with GraphicsEnabler=No otherwise I get the black screen. With GraphicsEnabler=Yes safe mode will boot and i can access the computer through screen sharing. I notice that it does detect the HD4000 Graphics with 512MB ram, so Im guessing that the connector strings in AppleInterFramebufferCapri.kext must be off. I was going to try the EDP now that the E5430 is included in it, but since I can only boot into safe mode it doesn't seem to want to work. Also the BCM5722D.kext included in the EDP will not get my ethernet port working, same thing with the included VoodooPS2.kext. Can someone explain to me how to change the connector strings in AppleInterFramebufferCapri.kext or share some working kext's? I tried opening the AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleIntelframebufferCapri with a hex editor as per a guide I found but I cant seem to find the lines that need to be edited. Any other tips to get up and running with 10.8.3 would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  17. Unfortunately, I have not had any time to work on this project in the last few weeks. So far, we have not had any luck getting the system to boot with the dsdt.aml. The main problem so far is getting the HD4000 graphics enabled properly. The video memory is set at 64mb and is not adjustable in the bios, but trying different HD4000PlatformId's has failed to have it enabled while showing video output on the built in display. The best Ive been able to do is either get corrupt display output on the hdmi output with a black screen on the built in display.
  18. Hardware should be nearly the same as the e5430. I too was only able to boot into safe mode at first, though I am past that now. I am trying to remember/record the steps I have taken to get where I am at right now, but I have been very busy and havent had as much time for this project as I would have liked. I believe 10.8 I was able to get booted without safe mode, but 10.8.2 would not. I would need to double check that. Update to the latest chameleon to get a more reliable boot. Look at the kext list that gohmac listed in the e5430 list, and use the voodooPS2Controller.kext attached in post # 12. Thats all I can suggest for now until I can get more of my issues fixed, verified, and documented. Mark
  19. I emailed the dsdt dump files to the mentioned address a couple days ago, and just received an email back this morning with a dsdt. When I get home from work tonight I will give them a try. In the meantime, I have 10.8 booting well now on this machine, but have a number of kext to install to get things working properly. If only I had more time in the day!
  20. I just sent an email with the dump of all requested files for my Latitude E5430 to [email protected]. The thread discussing the ML installation on this laptop is here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2034-latitude-e5430/ Any help or assistance is greatly appreciated! Mark
  21. I received my laptop and have begun the journey to get Mountain Lion on it. I've hit a number of road blocks so far, but I think I am making a bit of process. I have an OCZ 120GB Vertex SSD I wanted to put into the system, but it looks like a standard sized 2.5" drive doesnt quite fit with the bracket on it. My drive is a bit thicker than the seagate 320gb drive that shipped in it, but that was not the problem. With the bracket on the ssd, its like it does not insert all the way into the sata connectors, so the screws can't go back in to hold the HD cage in place. I've ordered a hard drive bay to replace the optical drive, and plan to put the SSD there instead. I have found that there is only 1 USB port I am able to boot the myHack prepared 10.8 usb drive. It is the port located on the right side, close to the front. I had read that the rear usb port was the only USB 2.0, with the rest being USB 3.0 but that does not appear to be the case with my unit. Regardless, I had to boot with -x into safe mode to get the installer started. I tried several VoodooPS2Controller.kext to try to get the track pad working in the install, but had no luck. I was putting the kext in the Extra folder of the myHack install usb, and then running myFix on it. The closest I got was to getting the trackpoint stick to work inverted, but the hard keys for left and right click did not work. To get a USB mouse working, it also had to be plugged into the right hand USB port, with a USB hub. While waiting for the HDD bay adapter to come in, I opted to put the SSD in an external usb case to try the install that way. Disk utility would not see the drive unless it was also plugged into the hub on the right side usb port. I have ML installed on the external USB drive now, however, it is still not bootable unless I boot into safe mode. I tried GraphicsEnabler=No but it did not made a difference. I found a thread on another site detailing someone's e5530 install with the same i7 processor and hd4000 graphics at 1080p, and have made changes to my org.chameleon.boot.plist to try to get the hd4000 graphics working, but ran out of time last night, and will need to resume tonight. gohmac, what voodoops2controller did you use? And what trackpad do you have? When I ordered the e5430 there were 2 options, the standard trackpad and the Win8 trackpad. My unit has the Win8 Trackpad. Could you share your Extra folder? Also, I followed the instructions in this thread to dump the dsdt/ssdt from Windows. Dont know if I should attach them to this thread, email them somewhere, or add them to the thread I referenced?
  22. Hey there, good to know! Time for 1000 questions! ... Did you use the generic myHack install and Extra folder? Or another install method? Any complications with the install or custom kexts required? My biggest issues with my Lion install on my Asus 1201n netbook have been the trackpad and sleep, and I hope I have better success with the e5430 in those areas. My E5430 is on a truck somewhere in the USA, my tracking number hasn't been updated in 2 days now, but Im really hoping it gets here by this weekend so I can dive right into this.
  23. Hi all, first post here. Wondering if anyone out there has attempted OSX on the newer Dell Latitude E54x0 laptops? I just ordered an E5430 and it should be in next week. One of the first things I would like to do is attempt to get Lion (or potentially Mountain Lion) on this machine. I reviewed the specs and I think it should be possible, but the only hackintoshes I've built have been with known well supported hardware with a good user base and lots of guides to follow. The specs for my machine will be as follows: E5430 Intel Core i7 3520M - Ivy Bridge at 2.9ghz with 4mb cache Mobile Intel HM77 Express Chipset 4GB DDR3 1600mhz Intel HD 4000 Graphics 14" HD+ LED at 1600x900 Dell Wireless 1504 (I know there is little or no chance getting it to work) Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0 Internal English Backlit Dual Pointing Keyboard for Windows® 8 Integrated Dual PointingTouchpad without Fingerprint Reader Light Sensitive Webcam and Noise Cancelling Digital Array Mic I think that these specs would be very similar for a E5530 as well. Thoughts? Mark
