lions94
First, I set the BIOS of my D830 according to the post in this forum. I also followed the instructions to create a USB OSX 10.8 INstaller, using myHack 3.1.2, and downloaded the ML 10.8.2 (Install OS X Mountain Lion.app), installed the bootpack for D830 Nvidia to the USB installer, run MyFix, and boot from the D830... I managed to get the Welcome screen, selected my new 250GB SATA HDD as target and formatted it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). But it seems the installer crashed about 1 min after I clicked on the Install button, and the Log report would show me the following errors (I also attached the entire log below). I tried to set different boot options, and tried install using the generic extras, also tried the OSX 10.7.5, but all stuck at the same step, simply could not start the actually install process. BTW, my D830 video card is NVS 135, and I created the installer from a OSX 10.6.2 machine, if it matters... wonder if anybody had the similar experience and can point me to the right direction? Administrators Hervé Posted May 5, 2013 Administrators Share Posted May 5, 2013 Hi, Three questions: does your D830 run the latest Dell BIOS (A16)? when you say you "installed the D830 bootpack", how did you do that exactly? you say you formatted the HDD "Mac OS X journaled". Did you re-partition your HDD and select the GPT/GUID mode? Or is your HDD in MBR mode? Check that in Disk Utility: select HDD (not partition) and look at bottom right corner of DU window. I believe the "EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)" has to do with disk access. Also, re-check in BIOS setup that your HDD is set to AHCI mode.
lions94
Thanks for looking into my problem! Yes, my D830 BIOS has been updated withe A16 and set to AHCI mode, and works fine under Win 7. Also, my HDD now only has 1 partition and selected the GPT/GUID mode. I also tried to install to another USB disk but got the same thing. I used myHack "Install Extra" and selected "My Own" and point it to the Extra folder (which was automatically created when I downloaded the bootpack for D830 (Dell_Latitude_D830-nvidia-ml.zip)
Administrators Hervé Posted May 6, 2013 Administrators Share Posted May 6, 2013 Try to create 2 smaller partitions to see if it make any difference.
lions94
I finally got the ML installed in my D830! I actually found out that I had the exact problem as another member"gbrown69" in this forum, where we are stuck right BEFORE the installation process begins. Like gbrown69, I tried all possible way with the myHack, tried 10.7, 10.8, and tried NVS 135, NVS 140, tried 1 partition and 2 partitions in the HDD, tried install to the USB thumb drive, tried all possible boot options, tried changing all the BIOS setting, etc, etc, but no luck....I am not sure if gbrown69 had solved his problem, and how... I end up using an iFail_ML2 DMG image to create another USB boot pen, and was able to install ML2 to the D830 successfully. However, I can only boot to Safe mode after the installation or I would get a black screen. Luckily I was able to boot using the myHack USB pen and run myFix from there. I then run the EDP after the machine booted normally...Everything seems to be fixed so I have a working Mountain Lion running in my OSXLatitude D830. Everything seems woking properly: DVD Writer Sound Video Ethernet WiFi (after replaced the Intel with Dell 1505) USB mouse (the trackpad works but hard to use) Sleep (perfect!) The only issues I have so far: 1. CPU speed showing 2.01 GHz instead of 2.2GHz 2. A bootable backup USB Pen created using SuperDuper! cannot boot - it will reboot the machine repeatedly. Any idea? Thanks!
Administrators Hervé Posted May 10, 2013 Administrators Share Posted May 10, 2013 Re: CPU/RAM speed, I'd say you have Dynamic Acceleration set to enabled in your BIOS configuration. Turn if off. You might as well recheck that all your BIOS parameters are configured as per recommended settings.
lions94
Thank you very much Hervé, you are exactly right on the CPU speed issue! BTW, the USB bootable Backup also works now...
