Asus n550

Hello everyone!

recently i sold my macbook pro and bought asus n550.

i'm new in this Hackintosh world and i read the whole topic, follow everything very carefully... and after few days i manage to get only to the installation screen..

 

any way, my problem now is that im stuck in the disk utillity stage, i'v tried to format one paratition of my hard drive into mac journaled so i will be able to install mavericks os x but i get error messege "volume erase failed with the error: mediakit reports not enough space on device for requested operation". 

i'v tried every thing, google it, search in the forum, tried to format by "gparted", but it format only to hfs/hfs+, not journaled, so its not working for installing osx on that paratition.

i have 750GB (7200) hard drive with 3 paratitions: C:(the windows paratition 279GB-NTFS), D:(for data-NTFS, 354GB), H:the paratition i want to install mavericks on - 43.9GB

Hey,

I thought Asus n550jv comes with 1TB 5400 RPM HD. So I think the problem is that your HD isn't fully formated in GUID but instead in MBR which makes it impossible to use journaled.

 

Mine HD came in GUID so I could install without problems with journaled partition.

Hmm I thought maybe the partition H: isn't big enough but it's 43.9 Gb so you can try the following:

 

- Delete the partition and make with free space an new partition Mac Os X (Journaled)

- Boot to Windows/Linux or another OS and make a free space (unallocated space) so you can try to make partition Mac Os X (Journaled) on OS X

 

Oh and forgetted to add you can also try Verify Disk Permissions etc.

i'v tried every thing you wrote but no success... by the way to verify disk permission the disk has to be format to mac allredy so i cant do that...

Maybe I was not clear .. I wanted to know if there is a problem with this manual operation because my hard disk is not mac hard disk so its not formated with disk utility so if i change stuff with terminal its can fuck it up?

Well, I had the same issue with my External HDD which I used as Time Machine backup so it's not "Mac hard drive" related. I think this is just the Disk Utility who have messed up with the partition flags (My Disk Utility was saying "this disk was formated for BootCamp"). 

 

I did full wipe with Disk Utility and created a new GPT partition table.

An other solution may exist but I don't know it

 

I used to partition using different tools like Gparted, Disk Utility or Windows Disks, but not anymore because I had to many problems when I switched to an other tool : right now I always use Gparted for major disk changes and no problem

I appreciate all the useful information that is in these forum posts.  However, I was wondering if someone could write a detailed guide for the Asus n550JV.  I have this machine but have never been successful getting it to boot up.  As I have seen people here have but for the most part they say well the install works.  Here are the few issues I am having.  I can't get the install to work in the first place and it would be handy to know what was done to get it to the installed state.  What setting were needed in the Bios and/or which flags did you have to set at the boot loader screen.  I appreciate any help that anyone can provide with this.

Go straight to Part 2 - Creating the installer 

Follow the steps 2.0. Preparing the USB and 2.1. Creating the OS X installer on the USB drive

You don't need to download anything, just the Mavericks Install app from the AppStore (free).

 

EDIT : here is the stock mach_kernel that I have already extracted : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11106337/mach_kernel

Now you have a vanilla installation media with the stock kernel like for a real mac.

 

2) Install the Clover bootloader on ANOTHER USB KEY

 

from windows use BootDiskUtility : http://cvad-mac.narod.ru/index/0-5

from mac os x use the clover installer : http://sourceforge.net/projects/cloverefiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded)/

 

now you have Clover installed on the USB key 

 

Replace the EFI folder of the root of the USB key with this one : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11106337/EFI.zip (thanks to Amokk, I have done only one little mod)

 

3) Boot in UEFI (EDIT : I use the stock BIOS settings)

- insert the Clover USB key and the Media Installation Key

- start the laptop 

- press F2 to go to the UEFI BIOS

- Select your Clover USB key

- Now you are on the clover boot menu

- select your USB media and press enter

- the installer will boot

 

4) Install Mac OS X 

5) Boot the installed OSX

- remove installation media

- boot on the clover USB key

- select your installed Mac OS X 

 

This work for me.
