smintel
I've been experimenting with getting Yosemite up and running on my system, and it seems to be running fine. Except when I restart it hangs on boot. I've found that if I boot into my Mavericks installation on the other drive, and run myFix on the Yosemite drive, then when I restart Yosemite it boots fine. So I have a working system but I always have to boot via Mavericks. How do I find out what myFix is doing to make everything work and how can I get it to boot normally? The first time I had this problem was after installing wiretap studio from from Ambrosia software, which I think adds a .kext file, so I ran myFix after removing the .kext to try and clean up - but now I have to do this every boot. Not sure if related or not.
Moderators Jake Lo Posted February 21, 2015 Moderators Share Posted February 21, 2015 When you boot to Yosemite, add flag -v so you see where the hanging problem resides. Post error here. For now, boot to your Yosemite partition /system/library/extensions and remove myHack.kext. Then run sudo touch /S*/L*/E* sudo kextcache -Boot -U / then reboot. Don't run myHack to your Yosemite partition, it's not supported.
smintel
Thanks. When I boot with -v I can see it hangs at the lines: considerRebuildOfPrelinkedKernel prebuild rebuild has expired AppleLPC::start - could not find IOPlatformPlugin driver. I tried steps you mentioned, but it hangs again at reboot step. I then did the normal boot into Mavericks and run myFix trick, but I still need to do that every time at the moment. smintel
Anyone got any idea what the hanging at considerRebuildOfPrelinkedKernel prebuild rebuild has expired AppleLPC::start - could not find IOPlatformPlugin driver. means? Is it something to do with my graphics card?
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 2, 2015 The last line means you're missing FakeSMC.kext. Make sure there's one in /Extra/Extensions.

smintel
I've made a bit of a mess of things - I figured that the hang had something to do with the Nvidia graphics card drivers - so I updated them to the latest web driver hoping that would solve the problem. However that made it impossible to get into the Yosemite installation at all, even after running myFix from Mavericks. Now it hangs at ATHR: Unknown locale 21 I tried removing all the Nvidia related .kexts from S/L/E and that made it possible to get to a low-res version of the log-in screen, but then it hangs after logging in with the spinning rainbow wheel cursor. I then tried to roll back to where I was before the update by copying back the Nvidia .kexts from the Mavericks installation back to the Yosemite drive, but that hasn't helped either - it won't boot, screen just goes black after a while. Any advice? I'm a bit stuck..
