I was planning to upgrade old d630 from days so i did little research all i can and i came to

- Intel SSD 320 Series 160GB / 3GBPS 2.5" Sata Interface Used(90% health) available for 32 USD in local market [2nd hdd replacing with dvd with hdd caddy]

2 x 2GB DDR2 Laptop Memory 800MHz SODIMM RAM for 22 USD - Please correct me if it's not supported in d630 :)

- Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (FF80577GG0563M) SLAYQ SLAPA CPU 800/2.4 GHz - is available in local market for 16 USD (is it work with our d630) OR t9300 available on aliexpress for 24 USD (witch probably wont deliver? XD)

- Copper Shim Cpu and Gpu Mod for overheating! But i am pretty confused witch one is best and will fit on our d630 http://www.ebay.in/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR5.TRC0.A0.H0.Xcopper+shim.TRS0&_nkw=copper+shim&_sacat=0

(btw sorry for dumb question but does normal thermal paste will work? or laptop got special thermal paste XD)

Tank you ;)

All these are Ok. Favour the T9300 CPU, this Penryn model really makes a difference with its much bigger cache. Copper shim can be a waste of time & money on these nVidia models. I bought one and it's made ZERO difference in terms of GPU T°... :-(

Just did stress test before upgrade and i got pretty high temp on high load and system lags badly when its on high load

here is my temp

also my heat sink is dt785 witch have copper plate on it gpu, either heatsink is not installed properly so it giving me high temp?

The nvidia GPU of these D Series always tend to run hot, even when idling. Some people reverted to brand new heatsink to reduce T°. My own GPU never runs below 70/71/72°C and adding a copper shim did not change a thing... Make sure to keep your fan radiator clear of dust clog.

You currently run on a Merom [email protected] with only 2Mo L2 cache. That's a low spec C2D model so don't be surprised that's it's having difficulty coping during a stress test. You'd experience a much better performance with a high-end Penryn C2D like the T9300 (2.5GHz, 6Mo L2 cache).

When/if you do upgrade, clean off all dust from your entry radiator and renew GPU + CPU thermal paste with a quality one such as AS5.

Right! :) i see cpu load 100% so its laggy\

Btw our Nvidea passmark is only 57 whereas hd3000 is 311 where as Intel Gma score around 110

So i am confused? Can our d630 can stream hd videos? Can it run photoshop/illustrator for basic editing? Would it lags under yosemite/elc?
i am not high graphics user

The D630 is a 10yr old-ish Core2Duo laptop. By today's standard, it's past its time and probably obsolete for the usage you have in mind. Expect it to fall behind on the graphics front, yes. If you want something really decent these days, you'd need to look at SandyBridge as a minimum and with a more punchy discrete graphics card for graphjcs-oriented work...

it's not that bad :)

just did test and adobe photoshop(both 64 and 32) installed in 12 minute, works fine just 3d did not work as it require minimum 512 mb ram) usb copy speed is like 30mbps, tested 4k and hd videos on 1080p external monitor and 4k works at 20fps(laggy) whereas hd works fine at 60fps (without any upgrade as upgrade components would arrive little late)

so yeah it's worth upgrade! :)
