reddpen
I've observed an issue on my E7270 that I can't find anything about online - when the display turns itself off and comes back on, it flickers and turns on and off. This happens when the screen goes to sleep from inactivity, or when the computer itself goes to sleep. The only way to make it act normal again is to reboot it. Has anyone seen this? Any idea where to start to fix this issue? Thank you!
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 12, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2017 Have you set the DVMT to the correct value using the EFI shell from my guide? I don't remember experiencing this issue on my E7470/E7270.
reddpen
Yes, I did it following the instructions in the guide.
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 12, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2017 I think that's why I enabled Legacy Option ROMs when I was installing Sierra and encountered bad artifacts. What version of bios are you on?
reddpen
I'm having the same issue with legacy ROM on and off. I'm on El Capitan 10.11.04 though. The bios is 1.12.something. I updated prior to starting the OS X install earlier today, so it's the latest available.
reddpen
Just to be sure, I verified the 0x432 value and it is showing 0x03 instead of 0x3. When I try to set it to 0x3, it sets itself to 0x03. Could this be the issue? Edit: I changed dvmt to 0x1 and 0x4 and both times it would not boot, so I guess 0x3 really is the sweet spot. Also I checked my BIOS, I'm on 1.12.3, downloaded from here.
Administrators Hervé Posted March 12, 2017 Administrators Share Posted March 12, 2017 Erm... 0x03 = 0x3 !
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 13, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 13, 2017 10.11.4 is the 1st OS X to support Skylake so might have some issues with HD 520, I'm on 10.11.6 and not experiencing this issue. Perhaps try the combo update to latest El Capitan 10.11.6.
