  1. Found the fix for Wifi - needed the IOFamily kext for this machine - this is working. Got EDP installed and configured. Rebooting and testing - will update again tomorrow with any new finds, but so far it looks great! Nice job on this!
  2. Got the D630 booted with this Extra package posted on the first post. The install failed as expected. I didn't have to use a USB Keyboard/mouse although most people here did. The few things I noticed: 1) Wifi isn't working at all (any fixes for this?) 2) Scrolling works but is super sensitive, also if I push down too hard on the trackpad it stops working (probably because it thinks I am scrolling) 3) I can't get EDP installed (because it needs internet access) It boots up pretty fast, and I have noticed some of the shutdown issues mentioned here before. Everything else looks pretty smooth so far, any help wrapping up the internet issue would be helpful! Thanks!! This is on a D630 Nvidia 4 gigs of RAM
  3. Nevermind - it looks like this is working. 3rd times a charm!
  4. Awesome post! Everything is going well, the USB boots quickly but then during the installation, after I finish answering the myHack questions the machine freezes with "About a minute" for time remaining. No mouse, no keyboard - just sits there. It did it last night while I was playing around with it so I let it hang out for a bit, but then rebooted and it failed to come up at all (just froze) - so I tried again this morning with the same results. Any thoughts on this one?
  5. Hey guys - I was updating my machine the other day and dual booting it with windows 7, so downloading drivers and what not for the video on Dell's website, and ran across a bios update! I saw they released A18 on 1/6/2012 and was curious to see if anyone had tried this yet. I have had bad luck in the past with the D630 dsdt patched bios so I'm sticking to Dell's standard right now, but just seeing if anyone was using that and saw any updates or if this is something to stay away from.
  6. Hey Kill_mark, on page 8 I posted I think about it - I would use terminal to backup the original IO80211Family.kext and then use something like kexthelper to install the kext from that same post. If you need the file, let me know I can email it to you. once you boot, you will need to open network preferences and name the device.
  7. Is there confirmed success with 10.7.2 on the D630?
  8. Where did you get this guide from? I had some good success my D630 but did this: I would first start by getting the usual downloads and setting up your USB installer. *myHack works great, get this Then you will just want to follow the wiki starting with these three tips: *http://www.osxlatitude.com/lion/ *EDP: http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/ *Extra: http://www.osxlatitu...pported-models/ and then move into what you have done thus far and what is/isn't working. Then we can assist diagnosing the issue and forming a resolution! Good luck!
  9. Ok, so I'll flash back to the standard Dell when I get it up and running - thanks for the tip, I will post results.
  10. Interesting approach on this - I will certainly try it. Of course being a holiday week and me out of town I don't actually have the machine! So I will try this when I get back to it. So, on another note - which BIOS do you have then? Do you have the patched one or the standard Dell? Just curious so I can have the recovery ready if need be.
  11. Yes, the graphics are completely distorted - you can see the top right corner where it says press F2 for setup and F12 for boot options and then you can see the progress bar over top of it but it gets 3/4 of the way across and freezes (regardless of having a USB device in or not at boot)
  12. Yeah, it is on my Nvidia system - what is the quick fix?
  13. If you get a good BIOS patch let me know. I killed another D630 of mine doing the patched one a while back. The boot was terribly slow and the screen was all crazy with colors (for lack of a better term) and wouldn't boot at all. So that one is toast.... It actually freezes completely when booting with a USB stick so I don't think I can recover it.
  14. I thought I might need to do this - so I re-ran the EDP 2.2 and used #4: ANV-Slice Modified Just to try one, and then work my way up. It looks like this is still happening, but the scrolling isn't actually a move of my fingers, just a slight rocking motion on the touchpad. I will try another one to see if it clears things up - but is there a way to tell which one I am using? Such as running uname -a in terminal allows me to see which proc I am using (x86 or x64), but is there a way to see which one it is utilizing? Edit: interestingly, doing the EDP rebuild did not require me to re-do the wifi fix, at least for now.
  15. Resolved the wifi issue in Lion on D630 for me at least: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/604-weird-issue-with-ethernet/ delete I080211 family next install Broadcom43XXFamilyrev2.kext Found new wifi device, gave it a name and turned on. All seems to be working there. Will try a new touchpad now.
  16. Updated to 10.7.2 and re-ran EDP 2.2 Boots with no issues two things I found. Wifi: does not show up - it didn't show up on 10.7 but it works just fine in SL. Mouse: mouse works however is a little jittery. Almost like I will be going across the screen and it will stop, start and jump around a bit. I did notice it does deal with the amount of pressure put on the touchpad, so it could be hardware related. Trackpoint/TP buttons don't work, but I don't use that so it doesn't matter to me. Other than that the system runs well as i386 and 4 gigs ram. Any help on the wifi at least? Edit: the trackpad appears to be related to two finger scrolling enabled in the touchpad in preferences. I turned this off and can press as hard as I want and it works fine (downside: no scrolling for now) Any tips on changing sensitivity?
  17. Was there ever a fix for the wireless in D630 Lion? lspci returns: 14e4:4315 BCM4312 Is there a kext fix for this that is not part of EDP2.2?
  18. It might be best if you were to start with your current model and computer information, and then move into what you have done thus far and what is/isn't working. Then we can assist diagnosing the issue and forming a resolution! I have had really great success with my Core Duo D430 here, there are only a few things that are a bit wonky that were discussed here that appears to be either model/type specific or stuff that just doesn't work for some odd reason. Not deal breaking stuff, just minor annoyances that you might work through with this machine. Otherwise it is really fantastic and super simple and the guys on here know their stuff and are really helpful. I would first start by getting the usual downloads and setting up your USB installer. *myHack works great, get this Then you will just want to follow the wiki starting with these three tips: *http://www.osxlatitude.com/lion/ *EDP: http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/ *Extra: http://www.osxlatitude.com/supported-models/ Good luck!
  19. Which A17 are you using, the DSDT patched BIOS or a dell standard?
  20. Does anyone have the 1395 working successfully yet with the D630 and Lion? Mine doesn't show up at all even as an airport device - I have a 3945 in another machine that I pulled out because I knew it wouldn't work, but it was replaced with a 1390 which did work. I haven't tested the 1390 in the D630 (need to get my hands on one) but just curious if anyone had the 1395 working.
  21. What wifi card did you have in there when you started, and what did you order? I may end up having to do the same thing but wasn't sure which one was viable at this point.
  22. Ok, here is something weird - see if any of the DSDT/BIOS gurus know this one. If the machine is shutdown (Press power button once and select shutdown) it shutdown and starts up with no issue. If the machine is rebooted (Press power button once and select reboot) it goes down fine, but when it boots it does the long boot through the bios/apple/dell boot sequence. Almost like the bios was just edited or i have seen this occur when the machine is powered off during the bios boot period (dells only) and the second time through it is very slow. Just seeing if anyone had seen this or knew of this issue and some way to resolve it. Thanks!
  23. Ok, that is pretty much what I figured on those items - not a deal breaker, still enjoying it. Any thoughts on scrolling? Should I try another kext in the edp?
  24. Follow up: Sleep, it looks like the password is still required, no problem here, just researching. Turning off bluetooth in the BIOS seems to have removed the keyboard error. I don't use it so it was a quick fix Touchpad, still no scrolling - haven't tried other options on edp. Screen - edp 2.2 did allow me to reboot after the gma fix, but when it boots the brightness is set to about 80 % and doesn't auto increase, not a problem but was wondering if there was a fix. Currently pressing Fn and F12 increases brightness and everything else is good after that. Thanks again for the help, please let me know if you have any options or if there is anything you need me to test.
  25. Awesome, 2.2 I think will be the ticket. Wifi, sound touchpad*, sleep all work. There are a few things to see if you know how to adjust or perhaps what I should be checking on the EDP. I don't want to complain too much and once this computer is set I'll start working with my D630 again. But the last things/issues I am seeing here: Touchpad - no scrolling/preference pane help. I can open the mouse in preference pane and adjust track pad speed but trackpad doesnt work. I am selecting the first item in the EDP, I believe voodoo.... but whichever number 1 is. Keyboard - every time it boots it shows that there needs to be a bluetooth keyboard attached - I told bluetooth to not be discoverable, and may turn it off, no extensive testing done here. I did see something earlier about this but not sure of a solid fix for removing this. Sleep works, but I am using the BIOS adjusted DSDT from SL a while back and it required me to have the bios password. I am ok with keeping the password but not sure if anyone knows if this has been fixed to where it isn't required. Again, I can test it manually, but just throwing it out there. Other than that, super work on the EDP and the whole operation. Couldn't have done it with out this site!
