  1. I've got a D620 Core2Duo 1.83 with nVidia 64MB graphics and Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which has been running fine. I had 2 x 1GB sticks of RAM installed and I'm trying to upgrade to 4GB. I swapped both sticks with identical 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz Corsair brand sticks. But now RAM in the top slot is not recognized - slot A under the keyboard. I've tried a couple of different sticks and none of them are recognized in the A slot. System Profile shows it as Empty.

Has anyone else seen this? I don't think anyone could've broken, the swap is pretty straight forward. Are the RAM slots especially fragile?

It doesn't seem to be a question of compatibility as the new 2GB sticks are identical, and I've tried 4 different ones just to be sure it's not the RAM.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated thanks.

If you use your old 2 x 1GB's, would the laptop see 2GB? If so, then try 1GB under keyboard, and 2GB in the other, and see if it sees 3GB. There could be a problem with slot A.

  2. Few things to try:

    1. For your model, look in org.chameleon.boot.plist in the bootpack. These are some of the flags you can set to get the iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded)/retail DVD to work.

    2. When you used the SLD430 image, did you use the right bootpack for your model?

    3. After you boot into OSX with -x, install EDP, then run the edptool.command from the Extra folder, choose option 1, and then the D630 model you have, also go through the options 2,3,4.

  3. sweet !!! Exactly what steps did you use? I'm looking forward to trying it out?

Move appleHDA from S/l/e to trash, repair permissions in disk utilities or via multifail from tonycrap. I used the multifail. Reboot, and voodooHDA KP's are hopefully a thing of the past.

  4. Few months ago, I used the iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) cd from tonycrap site and retail 10.6.0 dvd, followed the instruction from that site, booted into SL, then I installed EDP from this site. That got my D620 running. Later, I made the usb pen from the directions given here. USB + bootpack is a lot faster loading of osx.

  5. Hi Andy,

Many wasted days have gone by, but I am determined to remain calm. Creating the boot pen took some persistence to put it mildly, but on the eve of success, the fresh install fails. It can't recognize the keyboard. I followed your boot pen instructions. Bought a 8GB USB pen (sandisk) as directed, and wondered why transfer kept failing (after hours of waiting each time... tried from my working iFail install, then windows XP). It turns out the boot image is LARGER THAN 8GB key capacity, that would have been really good to know. So I splurged on a kingston 16GB key. It then took over 10.5 hours to copy at bs=1024 got 0.2MB/sec (kingston claims write-speed is 5MB/sec) on my iFail 10.6.3 (overnight). This morning I copied the entire unzipped bootloader Extra directory for my 630/nvidia onto it, rebooted, but installer failed to load. Then I removed the previous Extra directory that came with the boot image and copied the 630/nvidia Extra directory again. Install runs, but now keyboard is not recognized, so after 30 min, the install ends fatally, unable to "bless" the boot drive. So anticlimactic! I did manage to get the apple install welcome screen, then can't get past no-keyboard message. I can tell there is no keyboard on install, because I can't relabel the partition prior to install.

Please advise. Did I botch the bootloader somehow?

    Happy New Year

I had seen this before where the keyboard is not recognized or not detected. I use a USB keyboard/ USB Mouse to go along with the rest of install. Once EDP is installed and laptop is rebooted, keyboard would normally be detected.

It is definitely a learning experience to be able to follow these instructions. But once you are successful installing it, then it gets easier. The USB pen is very useful when it comes to reinstalling the os , as is the case for most of us newbies. I took me 10 re-installs before I had the SL and win7 working together. Then a few more to get the Lion going.

    Happy new year.

  6. Thanks, Chameleon is v 2.0 RC5 r665. When booting with this image there doesn't seem to be anyway to enter arguments. When using the D620slv1.iso, I did see that possibility. What BIOS version do you recommend?

    Regards

To make your USB drive, use the following the bootpack as provided for your model and desired OS:

    http://www.osxlatitude.com/supported-models/

Just extract the above zip file and place it on the USB stick.

  7. Indeed it is, i was just giving you a friendly advice, since i noticed that not no one had answered :)

    What you can do is:

    * Try and locate the kext(s) that worked with it before and use them again, sometimes 10.5 kexts works fine under 10.6

    * Replace the cam with one that is known to work

    * Check any of the wind forums, see if anyone else have an solution...

Personally. .i would go with no. 1 or 2 first :)

In case anyone else is interested, for other reasons ( touchpad/kB), I had to reinstall a couple of more times, and webcam is now detected and works in Ichat, is detected in Photobooth but does not work. But since mic or line in has been reported non-working for MSI U100, there is no real use for the webcam now.

    Thanks

  8. I had tried D610 but it did not want to load from the start, so I gave up on it and tried D620 core 2 duo. Go over to tonycrapx86 site, I have seen some older processors can take it but requires a lot of modifications.

  9. I was trying to fine tune the touch pad in this Lionized D620 ( laptop in signature). There is an icon for it in sys/pref , but inside of it , it says no trackpad found.. I had initially selected appleps2controller for this install via EDP2.2.

I then ran edptool from Extra, and chose voodoo . Rebooted , and still Trakpad icon is empty and it says trackpad not found,

    I appreciate a feedback.

    Thanks

  10. Hello,

In this MSI U100 netbook, the webcam is detected and works under 10.5.4, but not detected in 10.6.0 . I would like to know if there is a way to save the webcam kexts/etc from a 10.5.4 install, and then install them in 10.6.0 in the same netwbook. I did many hours of searching to find an kext for this webcam but could not locate one, hence my question. Please provide me with detail.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Read this post:

Also, you have to be in OSX to install the boot loader on the USB pen drive. There were some posts that others had trouble making the USB pen drive from VM. You can use iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) as described in tonycrapx86.com . Once you boot in OSX, then make the USB pen as described in wiki, you can also run EDP now.

  12. What do I need to install MAC OSX on Dell Latitude D620 (With INTEL GMA 950)?

I only have Windows 7. How I can create an installation DVD?

    Thanks.

You can use iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) and MAC OSX Snow Leopard retail DVD to get SL loaded. Once in SL, then follow steps in wiki to make USB Pen drive for Lion.
