I know, but I use it for repair permissions only, not for prepare USB installer.
-
I understand your procedure, but it doesn't run for me.
And if you use myhack FULL repair, it copies myHack.kext to S/L/E folder. myHack.kext contains some other kexts (to see what, Show package contents)
this is the screenshot, while booting hangs on...
-
Hi, with your kexts, I have finished installation DP1
but I must to boot with flags -v -f -x and kexts must be copied in S/L/E folder too.
With these steps, USB installer does boot and I can install DP1.
But installed DP1 won't boot. I tried to install chameleon r2380 and r2391, use same kext, boot with flags -f -v -x, but no luck
Also I used myhack FULL, still wont boot
-
OK thanks. I'm going to prepare USB installer again
-
OK, I checked dell support and these are the latest BIOS for latitude:
for e6400 is A34
for e6500 is A29
boot have the same release date 7/16/2013, so I think, these BIOS are very similar.
You have partition as GUID, ok, but it is for installed Yosemite or for prepared USB yosemite installer?
-
Ok. I will try it once again later, but have two more questions:
- the USB must be formated as MBR or as GUID? I think as MBR, because usb.pkg installer is for MBR, right?
- what version of BIOS you have? I have A29.
thanks.
-
Ok, maybe I have corrupt DP1 with some errors, because I tried extract kernel from it using Pacifist.app and it doesnt go. So I must download kernel from net.
Anyway I appreciate your work and I will trying also how to 10.10 for e6500. -
I've just write a Guide at the first page of this thread Try that!
Cheers!
Hi, I have tested your update procedure in 1st post and this is conclusion:
1. to prepare USB installer with DP1 and using usb.pkg utility, you must do this with it:
Open USB.pkg, click Continue, Continue, Continue, Continue, Agree, Change Install Location to your USB, then CUSTOMIZE, and select Installer + chameleon (booth must by selected to install Chameleon boot loader to your USB), Install, write password...
2. copy Extra folder from 1st post to USB. (for my e6500 I do no changes with it in SMBIOS or Chameleon boot plist, I have same CPU 2,8GHz...)
3. using myHack.app to Quick fix the USB permission
4. restart laptop and boot from USB and then I have other problem -> missing kernel
(USB.pkg utility do not copied kernel to USB/System/Library/Kernels/ I do not know why), so I downloaded kernel for DP1 from net and copied to the right folder to USB installer
next step -> restart again and boot from USB and these are some errors:
A) with boot flags -v -f
with boot flags -v -f -x
SO 10.10 DP1 on my Dell Latitude e6500 still wont boot.
-
OK, because I tried many times to install 10.10 DP and Public Beta... with Chameleon and Clover, too, but every times have no luck.
-
Has anybody working 10.10 Yosemite on Dell Latitude e6400 or 6500, please?
-
Yes, I have used the same procedure, but with Yosemite Beta Public. Maybe this is the problem. DP versions and Public beta are different
-
Hi, I have e6500 (the same configuration as e6400) and I used the instructions and Extra as listed in the E6400 guide posted here but my Yosemite installer won't boot.
@Krzysztofc10: could you post every file or kext you use to boot yosemite installer on your latitude e6400?
Many thanks -
I found it out how to make the power button working. It depends on kext file AppleACPIPlatform.kext. After installing this kext and next rebooting, power button of your e6400/e6500 will working. I used this kext from previous version of OSX.
Try this, and post your effect.

If I compare size of my DSDT.aml file using in 10.8, 10.7... and DSDT.aml file from DaFOB's package Extra_10_9.zip, there are the same (I think )
But in this GM 10.9, after pushing power button, there are no action, and I don't know why, but it is not problem for me. Still can shut-down laptop using button on desktop up-left
-
Now, I have on my dell latitude e6500 GM version of OSX Maverick. I don't know if my power button worked in DP's versions of Maverick, but in this GM, the power button doesn't work as in previous versions of OSX (10.6, 10.7 and 10.8). I think, it is something different with dsdt.aml file.
-
Hello, I tried install method from user DaFOB in 1st topic and it works on my dell latitude e6500. Then I updated to DP 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and now to 8 and still works. But have one "cosmetic" problem. In my laptop I have 2 internal HDD (one HDD is instead of DVD-Rom) and right this HDD is on desktop showed as external HDD with yellow icon. In previous version of OSX (10.6, 10.7 and 10.8) I have not this problem. In previous version of OSX I have one third party kext: "IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext" and I think, that right this kext is fixing error with external icon of HDDs.

Hey Folks,
I have had no luck in removing AppleACPIPlatform.kext from S/L/E
It always results in a KP on boot. (but always starts up if I use -f)
I have tried on 10.8.3 and 10.8.4 on system with SSD and with HD with GPT and MBR with Single Boot systesm and Multiboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) system and it makes no difference. I have done too many re-installs and backup / recoveries to count...
I think it may be related to a Kernalcache generation issue. I only have two files in S/L/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/startup and they are:
IOKitPeronalities_x86_64.ioplist.gz
KextPropertyValues_OSBundleHelper_x86_64.plist.gz
Is there not supposed to be a file kernelcache in here as well ?
I am thinking that it is not really a problem with the removal AppleACPIPlatform.kext as it boots fine with -f (which I think means boot without caches ?) and runs fine.
The other reason I think the caches is a problem as I seem to have more than my fair share of failed shutdowns.
Yes I run MyFix Full and Repair permissions (sometimes one first then the other or the other way around or Repair permissions before and after MyFix etc or reboot and try again and again etc...)
I have followed the the 5 easy steps method posted here and I am surprised others are not having this issue.
Anyone have any ideas? I can post KP if anyone wants a look.
P.S.
My MyHack just updated to 3.2.8 Beta on his site (it seems to be the currently recommended version to use as it is now the link in his main guide page)
I have installed 10.8.4 direct with this new version of MyHack with the Extras provided in this thread and install works (but it did not resolve my KP issue noted above) and can confirm his Trim fix option is working and systems seems to boot a little quicker (but not extensive testing done).
Only difference noted was the kernelcache was generated and was in the S/L/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/startup folder
From his page:
Changelog:
Bugfix: Fixed “user canceled exiting errorâ€.
Bugfix: Fixed (and improved) dialog icons.
Made MBR Patch optional (yes/no dialog).
Updated chameleon.
Added support for OS X 10.9 DP1.
Added TRIM enabler option – will enable TRIM support for all non-apple SSD’s.**
Other miscellaneous bugfixes and improvements.
Hi,
try these files, works for me e6500 in 10.8.2-10.8.4
Simply copy content of Extra and Extensions to your Mountain Lion disc and run myfix via myhack.app
/Extra/
/S/L/Extensions/
Btw: to working sound, you must delete ApplaHDA.kext from S/L/E folder.

Has anybody working sleep/wake on dell latitude e6500/6400 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2?
thanks
-
Hello guys,
if anyone problem with Mountain Lion on Dell Latitude e6400/6500, try these files.
Its working well on my dell latitude e6500 (C2D T9600 2,8GHz, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Nvidia Quadro NVS160M 256MB, 1920x1200x32@60Hz) on 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
+ used Chameleon Bootloader r2070.

I don't think there's anything w/ my method that will fix his problem. I, too, get random shutdown/restart problems exactly as he's described.
I would say that shutting down works 80% of the time, but restart is 50/50. When restart doesn't work, it either stays at the grey screen or kicks you back to the login screen. It might be a DSDT thing so I'll have to go through the file and see if I can fix it there.
I have e6500 and bios A26 (I thing, A26 is last and newest for my e6500) and shutdown and restart working well.
-
I'm still having no luck with shutdown. But i wanted to pass something along that i've noticed, it may help with someone coming up with a solution. If i run my fix right before i shut down it will work every time.
Additional info i am using the e6400 boot pack because the other one gives me a black screen. And i have done nothing to my DSDT.aml
Try installation procedure from user DaFob. Use myHack, 10.8 lion install disk and his kexts package.

After spending much of the night on it, I have succeeded in installing Mountain Lion GM on my beloved E6500, using a separate hard drive, although it still needs some kext tinkering. I have a doctors appointment to get to, but will add a detailed how-to upon return.
Hello, could you post your used kext and dsdt.aml to correct working ML on e6500?
thanks
