  1. Sorry Jake. One last thing. I'm trying to patch DSDT for my DW 1506. I put the patch then couldn't compile it. Obviously I thought I messed up, but that's irrelevant. I discovered that if I just open the DSDT and try to compile, it fails.

Can you tell me what version of MacISL you used? Perhaps that's my issue?

  2. I took your latest pack.

    Replaced config.plist.

Did the switchback around the ALC kexts.

I saw CodecCommander file size changed. I'm guessing you took the latest and put it in the pack.

Repaired permissions and rebuilt cache. Once again, as usual, prelinkedkernel error. I'm not sure why most times I get this error.

Regardless...It WORKED! Sound continues to work after resuming from Sleep. Thank you so much!

I checked all my devices also continue to work after sleep. Except Wifi that I haven't fixed yet.

What started not so well, ending up working really well 8-)

  3. That's interesting. In all other laptopns FN+F1 put laptop to sleep.

    I do have CodecCommander.

When I run that command I seefew lines with

kernel: (CodecCommander) CodecCommander: Node ID 0x16 supports EAPD, will update state after sleep.

So it seems like it should be working, but it's not :-(

  4. Okay so this was the behavior...

I replaced DSDT and put it to sleep using FN+F1. It shut down.

I hit power button, and when it booted I still saw sound work, so that's good.

I put it to sleep again this time using Apple Menu. This time it worked and I get blinking power button. I pressed power button. Now when it came off sleep no sound. However the sound buttons and icon is enabled.

So I tried shutting it down normally. Spinning cursor forever. I powered it down.

Started again, once again used FN+F1. Once again shutdown.

I hit power button, and when it booted, this time I used FN+F1 second time. Once again it shut down.

Tried one more time, used Apple Menu to put it to sleep. It did sleep. Woke it up once again no sound but sound icon enabled.

    In summary...

FN+F1 shuts the machine down cleanly it would seem rather than sleep.

Apple Menu + Sleep does seem to put it to sleep, but no sound on wake up.

Am I supposed to do anything else when I get new DSDT?

  5. No I hadn't replaced the config. I only did what I thought you described in your reply when you updated boot pack. I will take the config.plist and test

Also The USB3 port on left IS working. My bad. I have started noticing a different problem which is sometimes volumes don't show mounted on desktop or finder until i reboot. But they are actually mounted. Which is what happen when i was testing with USB stick.

One more thing. What I reported in logs when attempting to put computer to sleep was when doing so manually. If I let computer timeout to sleep then logs also include HDEF along with LID0.

Pleaes let me know if there was any other file I should have taken. I'm trying to not slam things in right now because if something breaks I want to know what did it. For example if I need to update the SSDT-PLNF then please tell me because I've not taken it.

I will use new config.plist and update this post with results...

AND Sound Works. And even if sleep is still botched (it pretends to sleep and wakes up then reboots) I don't lose sound like before. And I also don't lose my USB ports. And I also don't lose my Camera. So sound I can say is fixed permanently now.

So Sleep is the major issue now.

Wifi I will get working soon.

The only other annoyance is FN+Brightness Keys don't work and laptop always reboots to 100% brightness and will not retain previous setting.

  6. All right...

I put the FakePCIID and AppleALC in k/O

I removed AppleHDA_ALC292.kext from k/O/LE (I'm assuming it never got loaded from there, but just being consistent) and I also removed it from /L/E.

Did chmod/chown/touch on L/E and then rebuilt cache. First Time didn't get any prelinkedkernel error. instead saw kextcache updated critical files and request reboot using launchd reboot.

And I took the new DSDT.

Before I continue, my BIOS is A13 and I am not seeing any reason to update unless there are any advantages with it. I have no problem leaving at A13.

And I forgot to mention earlier I have stuck with your SMBIOS in pack (11,1 I think), and simply generated new system Id (figured best not to change too many things)

    Now, then...rebooted...

    1) I have QE/CI! I confirmed looking at Screen Saver previews and DVD player. And it's just obvious :-).

    2) I lost sound permanently. The sound icon I had enabled in menubar is grayed out. :-(. I don't think I should have retained the other kext in /L/E because your new bootpack doesn't have it. Any ideas?

    3) Wake reason with command you provided says "Wake reason: LID0". Don't get it because I didn't touch the lid.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide. Really appreciate you 'alls time and help.

  7. Sorry Jake, I think I know how to copy files, but I just don't get it. So after preparing USB 3 times I gave up and just proceeded down the one and only path that worked for me. Just ignore generic EFI and copy HFIPlus.efi manually.

So I installed again, but when it came to installing Clover on the Hard Disk did something different. I had prepared EFI folder separately for copying onto Hard Disk EFI partition and used *that* folder. I'm thinking the USB stick is means to an end. After all laptop will look at Hard Disk folder and that is per your instructions.

So NOW, I do see an improvement. I got sound !!! - EDIT: After flawed sleep wake I lost sound again until I reboot :-(

Problem - I still don't have QE/CI. I'm beat and will pick this up tomorrow. Meanwhile I will attach my config/kexts/dsdts shortly.

Anothe problem is laptop goes to sleep, but then couple of seconds later reboots.

PS - When I built cache I still get this error on prelinkedkernel cannot be used. Mentioning in case that's critical issue. Clearly it is building cache with all kexts including ones I copied onto /L/E.

  8. Okay so there are 3 generic EFI folders in Jake's post. Two at the top and 1 at the bottom after all the listed bootpacks. I took v4200 assuming that's the latest. Previously I had been taking EFI at the bottom and that never worked for me.

With v4200, Clover bootloader simply reboots when I try to boot the USB. I think I have to fix this first and foremost. Which generic EFI do I use?

  9. Yes I was successful in rebuilding cache. It did give me some error on "prelinked kernel in use", but I've always got that.

In any case like I said, I had to hack my way through to where I landed, and was expecting a more smoother experience. So I'm going to take new USB stick and start from scratch and report back.

  10. Hi Jake. Yes. Of course I did that. My booting from USB and later from each partition are no longer issues.

Like I said, I completed the install. QE/CI, Sound are the real issues. I realized sleep does not work only if USB stick is still in port. Less of an issue at this time.

I was also doing reading on FakeSMC injection etc. and making sure config.plist had the patches. Just can't get things to work.

I also tried the kext update for El Capitan in a subsequent post in your thread thinking that was the problem why I don't have sound but it rendered my laptop unbootable until I restored original kext.

I'm going to retire the entire procedure from scratch one more time and report tomorrow.

  11. Okay I have installed Sierra completely following post installation instructions in this post.

    https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/8506-dell-latitude-inspiron-precision-clover-guide/?p=54632

I used SMBIOS 8,1 since it is closest to my specs

I generated SSDT and copied into patched.

    However I have several issues

    0) I installed Clover on the HD, but I still need USB to boot into it, else it goes straight into Windows. I can't boot into OSX even with F12. I select Mac OSX but it will still boot windows ???

    1) No QE/CI

    2) No Sound (even though sound buttons work I don't hear anything)

    3) Sleep does not work. It pretends then wakes up. which probably means I might have to sacrifice some peripheral.

Wifi and Bluetooth I can figure out later. Ethernet does work. All USB ports work.

  12. Okay I made some progress, but first I need to explain - Is it possible the generic EFI folder in the pack is corrupt?

So when I built the USB for E6330, I had made a mistake. I had forgotten to copy the generic EFI folder first and only used the E6330 files. This is why I was missing the HFSPlus.efi file which I had to manually copy over.

So I sorta "repeated" the same mistake. And NOW, I'm able to get to the language selection screen.

I'm going to format the disk into two and install Windows first like I always do. Hopefully you can tell me where I'm going wrong/right.

  13. First, I'm positive I don't have Legacy mode set. It is UEFI. I know this because I have Windows on this disk. And I had to use MBR2GPT to convert the Windows installation and then it only booted once I changed BIOS mode from Legacy to UEFI. I have UEFI.

Now I also did what you said in the UEFI boot order. I moved UEFI PMAP to the top. After that, I didn't have to F12. Like you said it went straight to Clover Boot Menu. However, the symptoms haven't changed. Apple Logo with Spinning cursor on top left. :-(

Besides -v, is there another option I can try?

Will do the boot entry you said as well and try.

EDIT - Tried what you said but same result.

  14. Sorry, unsure what you are saying. I did pick the option under UEFI after F12. The options are

    Windows Boot

    Kingston XXXXX

    UEFI PMAP

I selected UEFI PMAP. Is this correct?

Also, for kicks I used port on the side which is USB 3.0 port. This time I got to Apple Logo with no progress bar filed and cursor spinning at top left corner. I let it stay like that, but eventually, the screen went completely blank. Pressed power button once to restart but screen came back to apple logo with spinning icon. So again, stuck.

To clarify, I always reset BIOS, and then change options as required. So I'm using AHCI, and UEFI. I've triple checked my EFI folder. If you can please clarify "UEFI on top" would really appreciate it.

  15. I have BIOS in AHCI and UEFI.

But something you said made me take second look.

When I hit F12 I was selecting "USB" under Legacy Options. Below there was an UEFI category with "windows boot", "Kingston HD" (that's my HD), and UEFI PMAP. No clue what that means but figured it must be my USB.

So I selected UEFI PMAP and got boot menu.

Started booting Clover and eventually got garbled screen.

Did again with -v option. This time stuck at "Sound assertion in AppleHDADriver....Service exited with abnormal code: 1" for a long time. Finally exited.

Then waiting on "AppleACPICPU". Its been several minutes and my USB light stopped blinking. So that's it.

Also I'm using the USB port at the rear since I know it is USB 2.0. The ones on the side are USB 3.0

    What can I try next?

  16. So I took the USB stick I had prepared for E6330 installation recently. All I should need to do (I think) is swap out the EFI folder in the EFI partition with the version for E5440. So I did that. And this time remembered to used Generic EFI folder and copy over spefic E5440 files so I don't miss the HFIPlus.efi file like I did previously. I also have USBInject_all.kext

Needless to say I have checked I have correct files for E5440, dsdt, kexts, everything.

    Problem is I get

    boot0: GPT

    boot0: GPT

    boot0: error

Exactly what happened with E6330 until I copied the HFIPlus.efi in the right place. This time with E5440 that's not the issue. And I tried all 3 USB ports.

If someone can tell me what else could be the problem.

  17. Just wanted to provide an update. The chrome issue occurs only on NVidia GPUs not on Intel GPUs. Just in case anyone has reached the same conclusion and knows a permanent fix for it. Google Chrome will not always retain the setting to disable 2d acceleration. So it's a pain some times.

  18. Guys. can some one help me? I can live without the USB ports on the right, and incorrect battery percentage, and I can always get different wifi/bt cards, but I have to be able to get the laptop to be useful for what I need it for. I

Right now I have removed USBInjectAll kext. When I do that I lose Camera and BT and Wifi. So using Ethernet port.

I'm hoping its just some DSDT patch I'm missing, but I've tried everything I can think off. Laptop simply will not sleep. Anything that will help enable the remaining usb internal and external ports without killing sleep?

For now, I've simply removed the offending ports under EH02 that are preventing sleep including camera. I'm going to focus on why at random I lose wifi (i get not installed error ???)

    :-(

  19. So I'm trying to solve some power + sleep + usb issues with my Precision M6500. I wanted to experiment with SSDT. Problem is I dunno if my SSDT is even loading. In verbose mode, I can't spot it being loaded since the screen scrolls too fast.

I just created file ssdt.aml next to my dsdt.aml. My SSDT does compile under MacISL.

So if there a switch, configuration, anything I need to change? The help file for Enoch didn't have and "ssdt" switch either (like there is for "dsdt" for loading a custom file name).

Does the filename of the SSDT have to something specific for Enoch?

How can I tell/ensure my SSDT is being loaded?

  20. I was trying to see if I could patch FakeSMC to get wifi working but kept messing it up. Not sure if there is guide to do this so S/L/E kexts don't have to be patched.

Anyways, for now I've patched the device ids and I have both wifi and bt working (I removed the Dell bluetooth kext that I had kept by accident, while it was not harming anything).

So now I just need my sleep and USB ports to work.

  21. Update on Wifi. I got Wifi + BT working under Windows so laptop can definitely see it. That's what above screenshot is also suggesting, but I dunno how to get MAC OS to recognize it.

Device Ids for the Wifi are

    Vendor - 0x14e4

    Product - 0x4357

  22. I have made some progress. My USB was build with 10.12.5 + Enoch.

    What I did...

    1. DSDT patched with Rehabman's patches using MacISL (I applied one at a time which seemed to make sense)
    2. FakeSMC 2017-0606 patched for Nvidia GPU 10de,061f. Main kext and sensor kexts being used.
    3. Kexts in /L/E (Kernel Booter still Yes but I know sound + bt will only work from /L/E and they do
    4. EHCx -> EHXX applied to DSDT which is how I was able to boot and install
    5. Applied hibernate mode fix (set to 0, set hibernate file to /dev/null and removed sleepvarimage)
    6. CPU is Clarksfield. I used my best judgement selecting SMBIOS. 6,2 is generic i5/i7. Other options were Sandy/Ivy Bridge so thought shouldn't pick those options.
    7. Weird issue. Ethernet downloads become corrupt sometimes, e.g. iTunes update, 10.12.6 update. I downloaded on another machine on wifi and then copied over 10.12.6 and then installed. Unsure if something can be tweaked.

    How it is working...

    1. Full QE/CI working.
    2. Sleep does not work, period :-( Just pretends and then wakes back up
    3. Shutdown works! This was a surprise
    4. WebCam works :-D
    5. HW Monitor showing 149% battery. Huh? Not entirely sure it is working but temperatures look reasonable while mostly late 50s, early 60s.
    6. USB ports on the left don't work. They are USB3. The right one is USB2 which still works.
    7. Using AzureWave NB290 Broadcom Wifi + BT Combo. BT works using kext. Wifi does not work, but that I think is BIOS issue which says "unknown device". I have latest BIOS A10, but maybe BIOS hack available and will hunt for it.

This laptop is going to be a desktop replacement. I can live without Wifi since I can use Ethernet Port (I have docking station and hope that'll work too). If I can just get help to fix my Sleep and USB3 ports, would really appreciate it. Also another problem is that once laptop attempts to sleep and then cannot, I lose my webcam :-(

  23. Sorry, I had tried that before when I did 10.11 on an HP laptop with Intel HD graphics. didn't work then. tried again, didn't work now.

It says command not found. That's why I asked, if there's any other way. I've googled for how to find out on Windows, but can't find anything.

Also now that I'm thinking...does this not apply only to intel hd graphics? I have nvidia
