  1. Hi Sabata,

Myhack should have copied the mach_kernel to the usb installer. You can manually copy the mach_kernel from the install app to the installer usb by:

    (1) From Finder, right click the install app and pick 'Show Packages Contents'

    (2) Goto Contents/ShareSupport and mount the InstallESD.dmg by double clicking it

    (3) Open Terminal app, type 'sudo su' and enter your password

    (4) Type 'cp /Volumes/'Mac OS X Install ESD'/mach_kernel /Volumes/'USB'/ (replacing USB with the label of your lion usb installer)

    (5) Close Terminal, reboot and try to boot the lion usb.

    Cheers!

  2. Hi wayne,

I see. You are using a PPC based running os x to prepare the usb installer. Then myhack will not work.

After restoring your os x installer disc image to the usb, equate is right, you need run chameleon from you ppc os x (i think chameleon installer can run on ppc os x so give it a try) and install it to the usb stick (again make sure the destination is the usb stick).

You can leave the Extra (bootpack for D630) folder in the USB stick.

After that, try to boot the usb stick from you D630, pressing F12 on start and select boot from USB from the options.

    Cheers!

  3. Hi equate,

May i know why you need en0 if en1 works?

Have you tried to disable the nic in bios, delete the entry in system preferences network, reenable in bios and boot os x for it to detect it again.

My d630 ethernet is working with that kext. Its showing en0.

    Cheers!

  4. Hi wayne,

You can create a chameleon boot cd and try to use macdrive in windows to prepare and transfer the snow leopard installation files to a usb. I think its possible.

Update: By the way, I just remember that you already have a mac. You actually can manually transfer the installation media to a USB (example here: http://www.macgurulounge.com/create-snow-leopard-usb-installation-drive/), install chameleon and then just copy the Extra boot pack to the usb.

    Cheers!

Edit: Wayne, actually, we still have our old guide here: http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation/

  5. Hi mak-cs,

    1. Open terminal application.

    2. Type "sudo su" and enter your password.

    3. Type "mkdir /System/Library/Backup"

    4. Type "mv /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext /System/Library/Backup/" (This will move the kext to the temporary backup directory in case you need to use it again)

    5. Depending on where you downloaded the broadcom kext, type "cp -r Broadcom43XXFamilyrev2.kext /System/Library/Extensions/" (just check and make sure the name of kext is correct)

    6. Use "Kext Utility" to repair permissions in /Extra and /System/Library/Extensions and rebuild extensions cache.

    7. Lastly, reboot and try out the new kext.

    Cheers!

  6. Hi robert,

My D630 normally hovers around 52 degree celsius when iddling (mind you the room is not air-conditioned and is just with ceiling fan)... During heavy CPU it goes up to 70s and at most 82 degree celcius (when that happens i'll point my table fan to my laptop hoping to assist the air flow to cool it down) :P

  7. Hi wayne,

First, transfer the chameleon and Extra to the desktop (p/s the usb will be erased during preparation). After that, use myhack to prepare the usb installer and when it prompts for Extra, use you own and select the Extra on the desktop. After myhack is done you can try to boot from the USB to install lion.

    Yes. Its that simple

    Cheers!

  8. Hi wayne,

in section 1. do you format to two partitions or one partition please I have a 14gb usb pen or does all the information go onto one partiion?

You can create only one partition.

in Section 2 do you put the SL 10.6 on a secondary partition or the same one please?

You restore the image to the single partition you created.

in section 3 does the bootloader go on the same partion as SL?

Yes, You install chameleon to the same single partition.

    if you could explain thanks

    Cheers!

  9. Hi...

Yes. You only need an intel mac or hack to prepared the usb stick and run myhack to transfer installation files to the usb stick. After that, you use the USB stick to install OS X to the D630.

The easiest will still get your hand to someone mac. It may be possible to prepare the installation usb without having access to another mac but it will involve heavy command line work and use of multiple oses.

    Cheers!

  10. Hi wayne...

I would advice that you don't get the D630 with the intel X3100 graphics card as mountain lion will not support the graphics card when it out this summer.

If you do get the D630 I would advice you update to the latest bios so that troubleshooting for any problem that may come up is easier when we work from the same baseline

You can use the ppc 10.5.8 to partition the usb stick with gpt and hfsplus. However, I think my hack would not run on ppc based mac because i think my hack uses intel architecture only. But then I stand to be corrected.

    Cheers!

  11. Hi...

Have you tried to rebuild your kext cache (run edptool.command, select 1 and then a; and also run kext utility)

If that doesn't work try to reinstall chameleon and EDP, repair permissions using disk utility and rebuild the kext cache using edptool.command?

    Cheers!

  12. Hi darvinko,

Can you try log out and then enter your os x with username=root and password="the password that you have set". After that try to access EDP again. I remember I once had problem with leopard installation where I was locked out upon boot up after installation and the username and password I set during installation did not worked.

    Cheers!
