  1. Hi there.
Back in January, I was a macOS user on a Dell e7440 laptop.
Unfortunately, this machine broke down on the go. By now I managed to buy another one also with an i7 processor.
But unfortunately my installer is no longer there.
I tried to create one under Win10 -vmware now, I still have the efi-m backup I used in January, which worked perfectly back then, I wanted to use it to create a new installer.
I downloaded the latest macOS Catalina to my virtual machine.
I created the installer USB and then tried to install the latest clover.
That's when I noticed that the latest Clover Bootloader already bears the v5 mark and it already lacks the drivers that were included in the old one.
eg: UEFI Drivers \ Recommended Drivers \ ApfsDriverLoader
My first question would bite here. How to use the latest clover bootloaders?
Regardless, I also tried to install it with the latest v2.5 clover, which is version number 5103.
Then all I did was copy the "ACPI" and "kexts" directories and the "config.plist" file from my old well-functioning EFI folder.
Then I updated all the kexts in the "kexts \ others" folder that I found more recent.
Then I reset the bios to factory defaults, set everything up as described and tried to install it, but the installer got stuck before the installer loaded and only the apple logo was in place.
I remembered that it used to not only work with the BIOS version A21 so I reinstalled it and tried it too, but the result is the same.
I then launched one in "verbose" mode to see if I could see anything from it, but for me it's completely Chinese. (I attached a picture of this).
Also, I uploaded my old well-functioning EFI backup to the link below.
    Link: https://mega.nz/file/GSpmxIRS#m6RSWVx7hIlVSQVrYRgeM1dA5amiumMKIbukMBF4jHY
Maybe someone could help, what could be the problem? Why does the installer get stuck?
Thanks in advance to everyone for their help!!!

I apologize to everyone for my horrible English, I am from Hungary.

  2. Hi,
On a Dell E7440, I wanted to upgrade from macOS 10.15.3 to 10.15.4. When the system reboots and I try to boot from the “data” partition, the apple logo appears but nothing happens after that. Clover 5103 is installed and I am using the latest Kexts.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks for the help!

  3. Hello,
I want to upgrade my Dell E7440 from 10.15.2 to 10.15.3.
Everything added, I use the latest Clover (5103) and all my Kexts are up to date.
I start the update, everything goes fine, but it just finishes, restarts, but the system stays on 10.15.2…. I don't know what's wrong.
I made a video of how the update is going.
Could someone watch the video and help me out?

Thank you in advance for your help!
    Hi,
    Balazs

  4. it hasn't let me down since then so i'm still trying to get wifi from the installer.  In the kexts/others folder, I deleted all kext files that have to do with WiFi, but when I start the installer it is still connected to the wifi network.  I made a trial image of a new mojave installer and used the old installer EFI folder.  I've found that when I boot from the new installer, it's already automatically connected to my wifi network, so it must be saved somewhere.  Anyone know where the wifi profile can be saved in efi?

  5. The Wi-Fi make (DW1550) was stated above.
Once the installation is complete, both wifi and ethernet will work without any problems or setup.
In fact, wifi works during installation when it first asks for apple id.
Only the beginning of the installation does not work with either wifi or ethernet, so when I can still choose to do a Time machine reset or install…
Attaching a picture (to the left is the old Mojave and to the right is the new Catalina) showing the directory of the old Mojave installer kexts where the wifi was still running and the Catalina kexts directory currently used where the wifi is off right. Maybe someone sees what's missing from the Catalina kexts library.

  6. I'm sorry, but I think we're not thinking the same thing because of my very lack of English. (I'm writing from Hungary)

I have attached an image as an attachment so that I can see where I want to access both Wifi and Ethernet.

In my previous USB installer it worked smoothly under macOS Mojave (I have attached the picture), but unfortunately my Catalina installer no longer works with Wifi or Ethernet at the start of the installation.

Postage: After installing Catalina, I didn't have to swap the two kexts you mentioned, just as I did under Mojave for Wifi to work. During Mojave I remember the need to swap the two files.

  7. Dear Jake,
Your expertise seems to have been successful.
    Battery feedback works perfectly!
Thank you very much for your help.
    Currently, I did this:
    "/EFI/CLOVER/drivers/UEFI/SMCHelper.efi" deleted
    "/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ACPIBatteryManager.kext" deleted
    "/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/FakeSMC.kext" was deleted
    "/EFI/CLOVER/drivers/UEFI/VirtualSmc.efi" copied
    "/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/SMCBatteryManager.kext" copied
    "/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/VirtualSMC.kext" copied

But in addition, the downloaded VirtualSMC package contained 3 kexts:
    "SMCLightSensor.kext", "SMCProcessor.kext", "SMCSuperIO.kext"
Do I not have to do anything with these? Shouldn't I use these?

Once again, thank you very much for all your help so far !!!

  8. I opened "install_tools.sh
"file, I looked at the directories you're using and finally realized that Catalina protection should be turned off so it works.

    Unfortunately, I couldn't find SMCBatteryManager.kext anywhere, so I couldn't give it a try.
Otherwise, if I delete VirtualSMC, it will not boot.
I tried VoodooBatterySMC instead of "ACPIBatteryManager.kext" but it made almost no difference. Maybe just that with "ACPIBatteryManager.kext" I can't manually update the battery status icon, only restarting helps, but with "VoodooBatterySMC" if I turn the percentage display off and on then the icon changes.

  9. okay

    I did everything.

    - Bluetooth works perfectly, this is solved by moving 3 kext to /S/L/E folder.

    - Waking up your laptop works the way I want it to!

    Thank you for your Jake!

But two things still don't work:

    - Unfortunately, the battery status is still unchanged.

    - Unfortunately, I still can't create the debug file. The mistake is still the same.

Can you still help with these?

  10. Hello,
I made a new installation for Dell E7440 based on the following description:

    https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/8506-dell-latitude-inspiron-precision-vostro-xps-clover-guide/?tab=comments#comment-94956

For installation I used "Clover_v2.5k_r5102" and the following Bootpack:

    https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/6472-dell-latitude-e7240e7440/?tab=comments#comment-86943

After installation, I did the following:

    Post Install:
Kexts inside /EFI/Clover/kexts/Other/CopyToLE are to be copied to /Library/Extension
    Repair permissions and rebuild cache
        sudo chmod -Rf 755 /L*/E*
        sudo chown -Rf 0:0 /L*/E*
        sudo touch -f /L*/E*
        sudo kextcache -Boot -U /

For now, it looks like almost everything works except:

    - WiFi works fine, only Bluetooth doesn't.
I tried to do it based on the descriptions, but so far it looks like it doesn't work.
        Here's what I tried:
I have downloaded “BrcmBluetoothInjector.kext”, “BrcmFirmwareData.kext”, “BrcmPatchRAM3.kext” from the link below.

        https://github.com/acidanthera/BrcmPatchRAM

I then copied these files to the "/EFI/CLOVER/kexts /Other/" folder and to the "/Library/Extensions/" folder, running the following commands:

        sudo chmod -Rf 755 /L*/E*
        sudo chown -Rf 0:0 /L*/E*
        sudo touch -f /L*/E*
        sudo kextcache -Boot -U /
I restarted my computer, but I still can't see the Bluetooth device.

    - Battery status is not updated
The percentage decreases and increases as needed, but the symbol does not change depending on whether it is plugged in or not unless I restart the computer.
        It worked perfectly under Mojave.

    - If I close the display, the machine goes to sleep as it should.
Then, when I open the display, the computer starts up, but the display does not turn on unless I press a key.
Is there a setting for this to turn on the display automatically or is it not workable?

    - I wanted to attach a debug file, but unfortunately I couldn't create it.
Here's what I tried to create:
I downloaded the file from: https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/10209-how-do-i-generate-debugging-files/

I unzipped it to the Downloads folder.
I opened a Terminal and ran the following commands:

            chmod a+x ~/Downloads/install_tools.sh
            ~/Downloads/install_tools.sh

Unfortunately, it ends with the following error: "/Users/blasio/Downloads/install_tools.sh: line 54: gen_debug: command not found"

Can you help me out on what's wrong?

Thank you in advance for your help!

  11. I realized the mistake!
After all, I apologize to everyone for all the many questions, it was entirely my fault. 😥😱
I'd rather write it before someone else is doing stupid things like that and hurrying ...
At the end of the installation, I hurriedly pressed the forward and backward buttons, leaving the Filevault disk encryption enabled.
That's why Clover couldn't see the boot disk ...
Thank you all again for your help and my apologies for your confusion!

I wish you a very Happy New Year!!!

  12. Hi,

Today I upgraded to Catalina.  The update was successful but the kext's are not working properly.

The display flashes in different colors under load.  When you increase or decrease the volume, everything sucks.  And anyway, it's very slow ...

I tried to generate a debug file but unfortunately failed.
Line 54 command prints an error.

On my right call I packed the EFI partition to see if that might help.

Can someone help me out what's wrong?

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

     Balazs
