tryit
This is my first build OS X on Latitude E5420 so really newbie and nope about it, I am able to install Catalina on E5420 on external USB HDD drive, it looks all functioning well as it should ( Audio, keyboard and mouse pad , wifi, and ethernet ). I use Boot Disk Utility on USB thumb drive and clover legacy boot. Now I am wondering how to boot up without USB thumb drive ? I mounted EFI partition on HDD drive and copy USB thumb drive 's EFI folder + boot to EFI partition but has no luck and wont go to boot menu Please advise and Thank you for all your help
Moderators Jake Lo Posted January 4, 2022 Moderators Share Posted January 4, 2022 Install Clover and select the internal drive as the destination as you did for the USB. If that doesn't work, you could create a new boot option in the BIOS and point it to /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi

Administrators Hervé Posted January 4, 2022 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2022 If the E5420 is like the E6x20, it won't boot from USB in UEFI BIOS mode; but it will boot from internal disk. Of course, you'd have to install Clover for UEFI mode on the internal disk. Use an older version like r5133 rather than latest r514x. Catalina is not the best version to install on Sandy Bridge/HD3000 as a newbie because such platforms were last officially supported in High Sierra. You'll have to use dosdude1's patcher to be able to obtain graphics acceleration.
