b3rg3r
Hello ! I just have a question before to get an e6430 with NVS 5200m (or not, depends the answer). Does the Nvidia GPU 5200m works with his 1Gb of vram ? And (if it doesn't works) what is the amount of vram of the HD 4000 and can it be increased ? Thanks a lot for your answers and your amazing work ! - b3rg3r

b3rg3r
Hello Jake, Thank you for your simple and radical answer ! I forgot to mention it was for ML 10.8.x. But if i understand well, you mean (by Yes) that the NVS 5200m is recognized in OS X with 1Gb of vram, and the HD 4000 can be used also with a customized vram amount. The only thing i want to confirm is, to enable sleep the 5200m needs to be disabled and HD 4000 enabled, is it right ? Thanks
Moderators Jake Lo Posted November 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted November 25, 2014 Yes, NVS 5200m is recognized with 1gb vram, while the HD 4000 with 512mb. You can customized it to 1gb, but I have not tried it. For sleep you have to disable the nvidia card, but you'll lose external display capability. For external HDMI connection, you'll need to use the nvidia card. What I do is have both DSDT's available. If want to use the HDMI connection, go to BIOS to disable Optimus and boot with correct DSDT from the chameleon command line. I default o.c.b.p to the HD4000 display. b3rg3r
Well, perfect, thanks a lot for theses useful informations. I plan to get this robust laptop in ATG version to use Final Cut for video editing (audio also with Garage Band) in wild conditions. Thanks.
