Administrators Hervé Posted March 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted March 2, 2015 That's because Snow Leopard 10.6.3 does not support your CPU. SandyBridge & Ivy Bridge CPUs are only supported in 10.6.8 as far as I can remember, not in earlier SL versions.
brendanlo
I also have an Apple Lion USB stick, but it requires 10.6.8 to be installed, which I can never get to. Thoughts?
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted March 2, 2015 You can download Mavericks or Yosemite from App store for free!
Administrators Hervé Posted March 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted March 2, 2015 Naturally, you need an existing Mac or Hack (with SL minimum) to be able to build say a myHack Lion USB installer out of your Apple Lion stick; that's natural. But that does not mean you need 10.6.8 for that.
brendanlo
Hello Everyone, thanks for your advice. @Jake Lo - I haven't been able to find a place to download Mavericks for free. Yosimite I was able to find, but it requires a working system. @ Hervé can you point me to a how-to article for #1 making a copy of my usb stick (dd?) and how to convert that copy to a bootable full installer? Thank you in advance.
Administrators Hervé Posted March 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted March 2, 2015 You're not going to convert your Apple Lion stick to anything. It simply contains the Lion installation app (like a DVD would have) and a tool like myHack is going to use that stick to create its own bootable installer on another USB key. In that sense, your Apple Lion stick will just be read-only media, nothing more. You'll keep it intact. The EDP pages (available from EDP button at the very top of your screen/page) provide some documentation on the whole process.
