jacatone
Just got one of these Dell Latitude D630s. Haven't a clue how to install OSX on it. Could someone explain the process in simple terms to me? Thanks.
Moderators Jake Lo Posted January 22, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 22, 2016 Does it have an Intel or Nvidia graphics card? There are many guides here already for many versions of OS X, which one are you trying to install?
jacatone
What's the newest version of OSX this laptop can take? The HDD's been wiped so I'll try a live Linux distro to get the hardware info. What else should I be looking for besides the graphics card? Administrators Hervé Posted January 22, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2016 The graphics card determines the OS X version supported by the laptop: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/8081-full-packs-for-d620d630-snow-leopard-lion-mountain-lion-mavericks-yosemite-el-capitan/ myHack-based installation up to Mavericks; manual Chameleon/Enoch/Clover based installations thereafter. Moderators Jake Lo Posted January 22, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 22, 2016 You can find your graphics card from the BIOS under video
Administrators Hervé Posted January 22, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2016 BIOS Info page displays the specs of your D630, most notably the integrated graphics card. The GMA X3100 will be shown as GM965 graphics, the nVidia as Quadro NVS 135M.
jacatone
Under Video Controller it says "Intel Crestline Graphics, Video BIOS Version 1466, Video Memory 8MB". Don't see GMA or GM anywhere?
Administrators Hervé Posted January 22, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2016 Sorry, my mistake. Intel Crestline = GMA X3100 so you're limited to good old Snow Leopard and/or Lion in 32bit kernel mode. Or ML with MLPF hack, but it's a little buggy and cumbersome to deploy. It's probably best to stick to the vanilla SL or Lion installations. Follow the myHack procedure as documented in the EDP pages available from the EDP menu at the very top of your screen. Use the packs available at the link I posted above.
jacatone
Also have a Dell Latitude D620 64-bit laptop. It's showing an Intel 945GM Graphics Controller. Would this be any better for a hackintosh or the same?
Moderators Jake Lo Posted January 22, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 22, 2016 If you look at the bootpacks in Hervé's link, it's mostly the same for the D620 with Intel Graphics.
