The change you used is only a partial solution to a different problem. It is when there is more that one audio device (such as your graphics card having HDMI audio out), which might cause feedback, squealing etc. Try booting back into your system using the boot stick - plug it in with your unit off, start it changing to one time boot sequence (f12), hit any key when prompted, select ML (not installer), use boot flag -v (or -v -x if you were getting KP) and see if you can boot into the system. See if the volume control you are looking for has been placed in a new bottom row of System Preferences panel). If so, undo changes, run utility & reboot. If you can't get in with the boot stick try booting in with -s.

I am out right now, and will be driving shortly, so just some info. You went into the info.plist of your audio kext? Also the volume control is added on the bottom of your system preferences panel. Should be home in 1/2 hour.

Also, I just did a little research. The SleepEnabler.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext don't play well when running at the same time. Sooo, if you want sleep, you either have to remove the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment.kext or add Disabler.kext, which basically disables the kext. SleepEnabler.kext should then work. I would assume this applies to most units, not just ours.

Rechecking the M4300 bootpack, the extra doesn't have that kext in it. I guess it and SleepEnabler.kext don't play nice.

I thought so, the KP mentioned AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in the backtrace. I knew it was in Mariusz bootback (which I'm using), so I might might revert back to M4300, using Mariusz DSDT.aml.

Might I suggest to both of you - I install these kexts to my boot stick after each successful install on my system, doing the same (My fix, or permissions repair) as I do on my system. That way, should something KP in a way that I can't undo by either booting in with the stick or single user, I have my backup. FYI iLife 11 and iWork 09 installed and updated without a problem (some of the iLife programs took a little while initializing however). By the way, Tengokuu, which bootpack are you using on your system - the M4300 or Mariusz? The SleepEnabler.kext caused KP on my system.

Try re-installing the IO80211Family.kext, run myfix or repair permissions and reboot. Should work

Just reinstall with a kext utility, using the option to replace the existing one.

Good to hear. Did you attempt ethernet yet? I'd like to condense the how to guide into one and would like to find what is working, what isn't and the fixes we've tried and which have worked to make it easier for others. Thanks again for all the updates and trials and errors we've endured. Also I'd like to see you get rid of that WIP in your signature.

I believe your system has the Intel GMA4500MHD graphics, which is not supported. Go into your BIOS (Tap the f2 key frequently as the Dell screen comes up). It will boot you into System Properties. Scroll down to the Video Controller section (next to last section). If it doesn't say Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M, presently (and unlikely in the future) that your system can support Lion and any OSx operating system after. Click on the exit button (lower right) any it will boot into your system normally (maybe a little slower while it sees if there are any BIOS changes).

Have you hooked up your ethernet and gone into network settings?

Checking the Vendor and device ID's, I come up with a Intel 82567 Gigabit Network Controller. The kext that should work with that is: Intel82566MM.kext. However it was intended for the 82566 model and it was assumed to work for this. You can try by downloading, adding it to E/E, run your kext utility (your choice), I would run a my fix and reboot.

Ethernet has always worked for me. I'll check when I get home, I'm mobile right now.

Webcam working smoothly too.

Adds some controls to system preferences also.

I used VooDooHDA 2.7.4. Comes in a package. Said install failed, but after reboot all was well.
