E6410 with nVidia NVS 3100M graphics - Mountain Lion Guide

Thanks for the updated VoodooHDA. I installed it on my system but realized you forgot to enable the mute fix. Attached is the one with it enabled (and with your HDMI audio fix; I didn't want/need (or have?) HDMI audio either ). Instead of clover, I first want to try and use a patched version of Chameleon I found...I'll report back if it works or not. jansenspencer's VoodooHDA.kext.zip -

I am using chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) 1.11.1 (the same bootloader bundled with the rest of the kext files. The originally-i5-motherboard shouldn't make a difference. -

Thermal paste is fine; the squares are just an alternative. You will need to re-enter all the BIOS changes that you input before you installed OS X. You can find the changes on the first page of the thread. -

Have you tried installing Chameleon 2.1? This is what fixed the VGA issue for alerphjuan, if memory serves me correctly... -

I had a similar problem with the verbose-mode-only boot a few months ago after my Windows partition crashed and I had to rebuild my drive. Re-installing chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) did the trick for me! -

Hi Patel I wish it would make me smarter to slap myself...I just did as you instructed and PRESTO! my sound is good. I too just used Chameleon as my bootloader with no problem at all. I have never even thought to chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) at all. Now i have a Hacbook Pro 8,1 complete with Bluetooth, Wifi, Sound and video working perfectly. I am very happy as whatever don't work i don't need anyway...lol. How about creating a EDP for this site officially. as I think you have managed to perfect this Install for the E6410. Don't forget I have the system with Intel Graphics. Yipeeeeeee! this thing is sosoooo snappy. Do you think if i changed the Processor to i7, would it cause any troubles. PS. I am still timid about the Update... Thank you good sir! Great! It is definitely a quick HacBook... I don't think it would cause any trouble (other than your BIOS settings having to be re-setup) to upgrade to an i7. Don't forget the thermal squares! -

1. Do you mean when booting you get a kernel panic? I get that sometimes too (1 in every 20 boots) but only have to restart by holding down the power button. 2. I have the same problem. This is a wide-spread issue among hackintoshes. I haven't found a working solution yet. -

Great! I just added your solution to the guide. Thanks! Congratulations! Thank you very much for letting me know about this. I just updated the guide, so hopefully no one else should have this problem again. You will definitely be helping someone -

Good to hear (or read )! When you say Chameleon, did you mean you used Chameleon and not chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) from the guide? I only ask because I would like to update the guide with the most recent version that works. -

Have you installed voodoohda? Specifically the one from the guide? -

That's excellent news! It definitely is a great performing machine with the ssd... I too need to get TRIM working...a word if caution though, make sure your drive supports it before enabling it. -

Hello Bigman, Great news! An E6410 with the Intel GPU has proved to be challenging to get up and running with the guide, so good job on your part. I do think it is safe to upgrade to 10.8.2, but only if you follow the guide with the zip files to do so. I would also suggest making a backup using Time Machine and keeping your Installation USB drive handy, so if anything does go wrong, you can get back to a usable state quickly and easily. -

That's pretty weird then; I just tried both ways on mine too and the black screen on the external monitor only happens when the lid is closed. -

Really the only things I do to get my external display working are, 1.) Plug it in, 2.) Start using it! What's good in this situation (I guess) is that the external monitor is getting SOMETHING... In my experience with the Dell monitors, most of them will tell you that the resolution is too high, so unless you get a message that says so, it's probably not the resolution. I've also got a dumb question for you: Are you closing the lid on the laptop when you plug in the external monitor? -

I will definitely do that as soon as I get home from work! I will most certainly post a how to here on replacing it (you really only have to move it to the /Extra folder)... I too don't get why it doesn't work OOTB. If you have another drive with windows, I would test it and see if it works. The only other thing I can think of if that doesn't work is to check your BIOS settings. -

Glad you figured it out. I meant to report back the day before on the VGA status. It works for me just fine. In fact, I'm typing this whilst using my secondary monitor! Not sure what the problem on your end could be. If you like, I'll post my DSDT. It should be the same as whatever is in the zip files. Quite interesting that not replacing/repairing the kext/kext permissions is what solved your problem. If enough people have the same problem you did, and skipping those steps solves it, I will be sure to remove it. Also interesting that PDANet broke your HacBook. I installed it about a month ago (but ditched it in favor of android's wifi tether) and didn't have a problem. Keep in mind that the guide you are reading on insanelymac is from the Snow Leopard days of OS X on the 6410. Applying the same fixes that worked back then may not necessarily work now (I learned that pretty quickly when trying to figure out how to get ML on this thing! ). -

Have you tried rebuilding the USB Installer? Sometimes, things can get deleted or moved over to the installation after it completes. I would start there and then try again. Did the "Detect Displays" suggestion by Herve work? -

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Been busy. I believe I do have it working...the last time I tried it was when I first put ML on my 6410, but I'll try again tomorrow. -

Glad you figured it out! Hopefully things will be smooth sailing from here on out. It should be since you got to the install screen. Fingers crossed, though . -

So it gets passed pci configuration begin and then goes to a black screen? If that's the case, then try with PCIRootUID=0 -

It should be GUID (or MBR if that doesn't work) and the partition should be Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)/HFS+. The fact that it doesn't show on the desktop may mean it's incorrectly partition or not initialized. When you are on the info screen of the drive in disk utility, is there an "Initialize" button in the top bar? -

Try to boot with "PCIRootUID=1" and/or "npci=0x2000"/"npci=0x3000" (without the quotes)... Are you using the org.chameleon.boot.plist from the install zip in the first post? -

Does it show on the desktop? As far as I know, if the drive shows up on the desktop, it should have no reason not to show up in Kext Wizard... -

The only thing I could think of that would be getting in your way using your setup is VMware. Are you making sure you reconnect the USB drive to the virtual machine after you notice it dissapearing? If you did reconnect it, does it show up in disk utility?
