  1. You're welcome! As far as repairing permissions/runnign myHack goes, I didn't really use myHack post-installation. I only used Kext Wizard to repair permissions because myHack took forever. As to why it does this, I don't know, but Kext Wizard takes about 5-7 mins. max. I flashed the A32 BIOS when I first began using Mountain Lion on my 6400 and the only thing that changed was my boot time; it decreased by about 5 seconds . So really, it's up to you. If you'd like, you can flash a new one and maybe see an increase in performance, but keep in mind you will need a version of Windows or a DOS boot disk to do so...
  2. Hey guys, I realized that I had included a boot image of a random guy by accident (it was a joke I was playing on a friend). Sorry! I just reuploaded the bootpack with the normal one (you can find it in my post on the previous page) For the 6 people that have already downloaded it, you can find the boot.old.png in /Extra/Themes. Just delete the boot.png and rename boot.old.png to boot.png...again, I"m really sorry about that!
  3. No problem guys... Please do let me know if that works for you, CypressPearl.
  4. Hahaha! I thought you might... Check out my post over here
  5. My configuration is exactly what is below: 2.54 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 761 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M 256 MB A32 BIOS (This could be a reason why some may be having trouble; A32 is the latest one...) I don't have a wifi card yet, but the IO80211Family.kext in the my bootpack should work for those who have a 1510... Also, bluetooth doesn't work for me, and I don't know why. Off the top of my head (I don't have the machine with me right now), I think the only other kexts that went in S/L/E are: VoodooHDA.kext (2.7.3 with all fixes applied: Volume Change, Mute, Half Mic, Half Volume; 2.7.4 didn't work for me (kept kernel panicing) Edited Nvidia kexts (NVDAResman, NVDANV50.kext, GeForce.kext) IOPCIFamily.kext from Netkas Rolled back AppleACPIPlatform kext from Lion (I know everyone says I don't need it, but I need it ) AHCI_3rdParty_eSATA.kext AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext AppleIntelE1000e.kext ApplePS2Controller.kext DellBluetoothHCI.kext I'll try and make another S/L/E bootpack with those later... EDIT: The above list should be everything that is in my SLE folder. Below is a pack of all of them. SLE.zip I did exactly what I wrote in the post above the one I wrote with the bootpack If you're talking about NullCPUManagement.kext, I (personally) would just delete everything under /Extra/Extensions and use Kext Wizard to install everything from my /Extra/Extensions (but ONLY if you have the same/similar configuration I do)
  6. If you look under Energy preferences in System Preferences, you should see sliders that you can adjust the display sleep, and computer sleep time lengths with, both on Battery, and the AC Adapter.
  7. Two posts in a row! Since I've joined this forum and toyed around with bootpacks, it seems to me that a 'bootpack' is just the /Extra/ folder with the perfect configuration to make the system tick. I've also noticed that many people are having trouble with the bootpacks and so I wanted to upload my very own, unofficial E6400 bootpack! E6400 Unofficial Bootpack.zip Edit: Sorry about the boot image; it was a joke I was playing on a friend... I just reuploaded the one with the normal one. For the 6 people that have already downloaded it, you can find the boot.old.png in /Extra/Themes. Just delete the boot.png and rename boot.old.png to boot.png...again, I"m really sorry about that! Note that in order to have an almost perfectly working system, you will have to refer to Darvinko's first post/guide at the beginning of this thread to install the kexts that belong in System/Library/Extensions and install the OS in general. This bootpack is what works for me; everyone's configuration is a little bit different, so if it doesn't work for you, it's not the end of the world...
  8. For sleep, I used the Sleepenabler.kext for 10.8 posted by Tengokuu in this very thread and changed the hibernatemode to 0 (as well as reclaiming 4 GB back from the system!)... First, I removed the sleepimage file which is used for Safe Sleep in OSX. Basically, Safe Sleep saves the state your computer was in before sleeping to the hard drive in the sleepimage file. By disabling Safe Sleep, I got faster sleep/wake times, and the system slept and woke up on lid close/open! In order to remove the sleepimage file, disable Safe Sleep, and hopefully get your sleep to work on lid close, run the following commands in Terminal: Remove sleepimage from your system: sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage Change the hibernatemode to 0/Disable Safe Sleep: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 To check that the hibernatemode truly is 0/Safe Sleep really is disabled: pmset -g | grep hibernatemode You will have to input your password after entering the first line. If you haven't used sudo before, when you enter your password, you won't see anything happen on the screen. Make sure you type your password in correctly. Also, the amount of space you get back from OS X by removing the sleepimage file will depend on how much RAM you have instlaled in your computer. Ex. if you have 2GB installed, your sleepimage file will only be 2GB and therefore you will only get 2GB back when you delete it. Hope this works for anyone else with sleep issues!
  9. For anyone who has an E6410 and wants to run Mountain Lion on it, I just made a guide over here
  10. Hello all, Originally, I had an E6400 that I helped install Mountain Lion on in this thread. After my E6400's hard drive failed, I upgraded to an E6410, and immediately began to toy around with OS X. Not seeing any real guides on the internet for the installation of OS X on the E6410 since Snow Leopard, I decided to try my luck with the latest and greatest Mountain Lion! The results aren't bad, however (as with almost any hackintosh) there are things that need to be fixed. The following guide is my first one ever, so please feel free to comment on how good/bad it is and what I may have missed. I have also tried to make this as beginner friendly as possible. First off, the machine I am working with is a Dell Latitude E6410 (no surprises there) with: 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 NVS 3100M 512 MB BIOS version A12 (I have since upgraded to A13 with no problems) What works: Audio Webcam Trackpad & Nub Wifi - Dell 1510/Broadcom 4322 (big thanks to Darvinko ) Ethernet Graphics (1280x800; max resolution for my LCD) Bluetooth (big thanks to alerphjuan) Two-Finger Scrolling with Trackpad (see fix at the bottom of this post) What doesn't work: SD Card Reader (tried with VoodooSDHC.kext) Sleep (Tried with SleepEnabler.kext + DSDT) Before we begin with the guide, we need to get a few things out of the way: If you are new to this, please first read about what a hackintosh is and what creating/using/maintaing one entails (a simple google search for "hackintosh" worked for me) Read through this guide COMPLETELY before beginning This guide assumes that you have backed up all your data (if you need it) and are okay with erasing EVERYTHING on your hard drive I am not responsible if your laptop doesn't turn out as you'd hoped/expected (don't expect everything to work ) Although this guide may look long and daunting, it should only take about 1-3 hours (3.5 hours max). I tried to make it as quick and easy as I could If you have agreed with/done the above, you may proceed with the guide... You will need the following: A working Mac/Hackintosh A Dell Latitude E6410 (shocker) w/NVS 3100M (the guide assumes you have the NVS 3100M Graphics Card, though this may still work for you even if you don't), A12 (or greater) BIOS (found here) A hard drive that you are okay with erasing completely An 8 GB or greater flash drive that you are okay with erasing A purchased copy of OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store This zip: E6410 ML.zip 7. Patience, hope, and a pinch of faith in the guide Once you have those 7 things (the last one especially ), continue... Creating the Installer Make sure your Mountain Lion copy is in the Applications folder on your working Mac/Hackintosh Open Finder and press Command+Shift+G and type in the following /Applications/Install OS X Mountain Lion.app/Contents/SharedSupport Press Enter/Return; this should take you to a folder with the files InstallESD.dmg and OSInstall.mpkg Copy InstallESD.dmg to the Desktop/another convenient location When that's done, unzip the E6410 ML.zip to the Desktop/another convenient location and open up the "Applications" folder inside it. Plug in your 8 GB or greater flash drive nowNOTE: If the drive doesn't show up, make sure it is partitioned/formatted as the following (you may use Disk Utility to do this): 1 Partition, GUID Partition Table, and Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) Run myHack and enter your password From the drop-down, select "Create a OS X Installer" and click "Ok" Make sure "Create OS X 10.8 Install Disk" is selected; if not, select it from the drop-down Click "Ok" and select the flash drive (NOTE: Make sure you select the correct one if you have more than one connected to your system; the application will erase the selected flash drive) When prompted, select "Browse Manually" and navigate to the InstallESD.dmg that you copied from the Install OS X Mountain Lion.app At the confirmation, click "Ok" The process will take 20-40 minutes depending on the computer/flash drive being used When it finishes, click "Ok" and "Quit" Re-open myHack from the Applications folder and type in your password From the drop-down, select "Install Extra" and click "Ok" Again, make sure you choose the correct flash drive at the next prompt At the next prompt, choose "Use My Own" from the drop-down and click "Ok" Browse to the E6410 ML folder and select the Extra folder within it and click "Open" The process should take 2-5 minutes Click "Ok" and "Quit" when it finishes Now, return to the Applications folder in the E6410 ML folder and open Kext Wizard Navigate to the "Installation" tab in the bar at the top In finder, navigate to the E6410 ML folder and the S/L/E folder within it Select all (Command+A) the kexts within it and click and drag them to the white box in the Kext Wizard window In Kext Wizard, select the flash drive (again, make sure you select the right one) Select System/Library/Extensions under Destination Select "Backup kexts that will be replaced" too Click Install and enter your password The process should take under a minute When, it finishes, click OK (Unless you have growl; then look out for notifications) Head over to the Maintenance tab on top Select the right flash drive Check the boxes next to "Extra" and "System/Library/Extensions" Click "Execute" and enter your password This process could take 5-7 minutes When, it finishes, click OK (Unless you have growl; then look out for notifications) Close Kext Wizard Copy over the E6410 ML folder to your flash drive and enter your password when promptedNOTE: If installing 10.8.2, please also copy the extracted "E6410 ML 10.8.2.zip" (found below) as well as the E6410 ML folder to the flash drive. - roar2000's post NOTE: If installing 10.8.3, please also copy the extracted "E6410 ML 10.8.3.zip" (found below) as well as the E6410 ML folder to the flash drive. -roar2000's post NOTE: If installing 10.8.4 or 10.8.5, please see coldsun1187's post. When that's done, eject the flash drive Congratulations! You are now ready to install OS X Mountain Lion on your E6410! EDIT - 8/24/2012 Wifi now works with the Dell 1510/Broadcom 4322 Wifi Card! Simply delete IO80211Family.kext from System/Library/Extensions and add the Broadcom43XXFamilyrev2.kext and IONetworkingFamily.kext (from the updated E6410 ML.zip) to Extra/Extensions using Kext Wizard. Reboot and enjoy wireless internet! (Thank you Darvinko!) In addition to wifi, to get the microphone to work, play around with the recording, line in, and noise reduction levels in the VoodooHDA prefpane to eliminate the background noise and bring out whatever you are trying to record. You can test each change by looking at the microphone and observing the recording level in the Dictation & Speech prefpane. It should level out/stay still when its quiet. EDIT - 9/4/2012 The new 10.8.1 update may leave you with an Apple logo with a "no" sign/circle with a cross (if not booting in verbose mode)/Still waiting for root device... (if booting in verbose mode). The fix for this is to use a patched version of AppleAHCIPort.kext & IOAHCIFamily.kext. You can download the patched versions of these kexts in the zip file below: Patched 10.8 AppleAHCIPort & IOACHIFamily Kexts.zip If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and DID NOT REBOOT, you may simply install these kexts to S/L/E using Kext Wizard and Repair permissions and caches. If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and REBOOTED, you will need to use your myHack installation drive and use terminal to move the updated kexts over. To do this: Make sure you did not rename your myHack installer drive; if you did, replace anywhere you see "myHack OS X Install Disk" with the name you renamed the flash drive to Unzip the patched kexts to a folder (I will call the folder "Patched Kexts" in the instructions; replace it with whatever name you called yours) and copy that folder to the root of your flash drive Boot the computer from the USB flash drive and use the same kernel flags (if any) to boot. Click Continue and Agree and then in the menu bar (on top) click Utilities, and then Terminal The commands you will use in Terminal are (replace "Patched Kexts" & "Macintosh HD" to whatever you may have named it): cd "/Volumes/myHack OS X Install Disk/Patched Kexts" cp -R AppleAHCIPort.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOAHCIFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" Exit Terminal and click on Utilities in the menu bar (on top) and open myHack. Select Run myFix Select Full When it finishes, restart and hope and pray that it boots without a problem (as always, if it doesn't, restart again with "-v" (without quotes) and post the error/line it hangs at here). If you have downloaded the Mountain Lion installer on or between August 23, 2012 and September 18, 2012, please use the E6410 ML 10.8.1.zip (found below) with the guide: E6410 ML 10.8.1.zip EDIT 9/19/2012 The new 10.8.2 update does not seem to cause any changes to our setup. If you are on 10.8 or 10.8.1, it is safe to use Software Update to update to 10.8.2 without any problems (NOTE: One "problem" that may occur is that OS X will report it could not/did not install the updates when in fact it did. Simply click "Restart" or "Ok" (There should only be one button; I just forgot what it said) and check your version number by going to the Apple logo (in the top left) and then About this Mac. If it says 10.8.2, you're good! If not, post back here and we'll figure out what happened) EDIT 9/22/2012 It seems that I was wrong about 10.8.2. There is in fact a problem that it brings along with it. When booting up, you will either, 1.) Boot up fine (but only about 3 times; this is what happend to me) 2.) Not show a "spinning gear" and just hang at the Apple logo, 3.) It will boot without a "spinning gear" To fix this, you must do one of the following (using the kexts below): 10.8.2 Kexts.zip If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and DID NOT REBOOT, you may simply install these kexts to S/L/E using Kext Wizard and Repair permissions and caches. Click Continue and Agree and then in the menu bar (on top) click Utilities, and then Terminal The commands you will use in Terminal are (replace "Patched Kexts" & "Macintosh HD" to whatever you may have named it): cd "/Volumes/myHack OS X Install Disk/Patched Kexts" cp -R AppleAHCIPort.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOAHCIFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R AppleACPIPlatform.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOPCIFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOUSBFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" Exit Terminal and click on Utilities in the menu bar (on top) and open myHack. Select Run myFix Select Full When it finishes, restart and hope and pray that it boots without a problem (as always, if it doesn't, restart again with "-v" (without quotes) and post the error/line it hangs at here). If you have downloaded the Mountain Lion installer on or after September 19, 2012, please use the E6410 ML 10.8.2.zip (found below) with the guide: E6410 ML 10.8.2.zip NOTE: Please also copy the extracted "E6410 ML 10.8.2.zip" as well as the E6410 ML folder to the flash drive (Step 39 of the guide). -roar2000's post EDIT 3/14/2013 Today, 10.8.3 was released by Apple. Luckily for us E6410 users, it doesn't hurt our setup much. You are safe to update using the App Store/System Update (via the Apple Logo). The worst that will happen is, 1.) It will throw up an error when updating and say the update wasn't installed (upon reboot, if you go to the Apple Logo > About this mac, you will see it in fact did finish), 2.) The machine will boot fine, but there will be no "spinning gear", 3.) There will be no sound upon reboot. To fix these problems, you must do one of the following (using the kexts below): 10.8.3 Kexts.zip If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and DID NOT REBOOT, you may simply install these kexts to S/L/E using Kext Wizard and Repair permissions and caches. If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and REBOOTED (but cannot get back to a working state), you will need to use your myHack installation drive and use terminal to move the updated kexts over. Click Continue and Agree and then in the menu bar (on top) click Utilities, and then Terminal The commands you will use in Terminal are (replace "Patched Kexts" & "Macintosh HD" to whatever you may have named it): cd "/Volumes/myHack OS X Install Disk/Patched Kexts" cp -R AppleAHCIPort.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOAHCIFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R AppleACPIPlatform.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOPCIFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R IOUSBFamily.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" cp -R VoodooHDA.kext "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions" Exit Terminal and click on Utilities in the menu bar (on top) and open myHack. Select Run myFix Select Full When it finishes, restart and hope and pray that it boots without a problem (as always, if it doesn't, restart again with "-v" (without quotes) and post the error/line it hangs at here). If you have downloaded the Mountain Lion installer on or after March 14, 2013, please use the E6410 ML 10.8.3.zip (found below) with the guide: E6410 ML 10.8.3.zip NOTE: Please also copy the extracted "E6410 ML 10.8.3.zip" as well as the E6410 ML folder to the flash drive (Step 39 of the guide). - roar2000's post EDIT 6/4/2013 Today, Mountain Lion version 10.8.4 was released. For those of us with E6410s, we have a minor set of problems this time around. The new update may leave you with an Apple logo with a "no" sign/circle with a cross (if not booting in verbose mode)/Still waiting for root device... (if booting in verbose mode). The fix for this is to use a patched version of AppleAHCIPort.kext & IOAHCIFamily.kext. You can download the patched versions of these kexts in the zip file below (NOTE: These are different from the 10.8.1 patched kexts. Please make sure you download the right version for your system!): AppleAHCIPort & IOAHCIFamily Kexts.zip If you have already installed Mountain Lion on your E6410 and have accepted the update and DID NOT REBOOT, you may simply install these kexts to S/L/E using Kext Wizard and Repair permissions and caches. If you have downloaded the Mountain Lion installer on or between August 23, 2012 and September 18, 2012, please use the E6410 ML 10.8.4.zip (found below) with the guide: E6410 ML 10.8.4.zip EDIT 9/12/2013 10.8.5 was just released a few hours ago. As far as I can tell, updating from 10.8.4 via the App Store/Software Update works just fine. At most, you will have to fix the wifi again using the airportd fix from below (in the Troubleshooting section). I won't upload a 10.8.5 zip only because it would be the same exact zip as 10.8.4. So, if updating to 10.8.5, all procedures for doing so should be exactly the same (if not, extremely similar) to the 10.8.4 method(s) in "Edit 6/4/2013" Good luck! Please feel free to ask questions, voice comments, and concerns... Also, big thanks to everyone who was involved in helping get Mountain Lion to run on the E6400 (Special thanks to Darvinko, Tengokuu, dafob, jebediah, alerphjuan, jansenspencer, and roar2000), as well as the creators of myHack, Kext Wizard, and the chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) boatloader. I couldn't have gotten this working without them.
  11. No problem. The card does work fine under windows and the device and vendor ids match up with the 370 (or 377; can't remember whichever one was mentioned in this thread). The card doesn't show up under system preferences but there is a PCI Serial Adapter... I'm going to try with pcirootuid=0 or 1 and see if it changes anything tomorrow... Thanks again, Darvinko
  12. You could try. Make sure you repair permissions. If that doesn't work for you, try replacing the AppleACPIPlatform.kextand repairing permissions
  13. Did you replace the IOPCIFamily.kext on the installer with the netkas's/the one mentioned in the first post?
  14. For anyone that has a black screen, try using the Mariusz's DSDT. Just place that in /Extra and reboot
  15. Hi all, I am setting up another E6400 HacBook for a friend and don't know why on earth Bluetooth doesn't work. According to most of you, it should work natively, but it doesn't seem to do so for me. I tried re-installing (3 times) and using the DellBluetoothHCI.kext from Lion also, but it didn't work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  16. I can agree that the problem may lie with Apple and not our computers/hacks themselves. I have a friend with a MacBook Pro whose computer has been overheating since installing Mountain Lion...
  17. Darvinko, It wasn't my fix that was the problem; it was the kext I downloaded. I redownloaded VoodooHDA 2.7.4 from another source (http://code.google.com/p/applelife/downloads/detail?name=VoodooHDA.kext-2.7.4.zip&can=2&q=) and applied my fix and it worked! Now the only problem I have is with the microphone recognizing internal/system sounds. Thanks for the help though!
  18. Okay, now I know the E6410 is slightly different (and that this thread is mainly about the 6400), but I tried using the VoodooHDA version Tengokuu posted and I still have no volume control, however the sound does work. In an effort to troubleshoot this, I edited the info.plist and changed 'false' to 'true', mirroring what is below: VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix After I saved, closed the windows, and ran Kext Utility, I can no longer boot into the USB drive (I took your advice Darvinko!) If any of you have ever had a similar problem, I would love to hear how you resolved it.
  19. Thanks! I will test ASAP. Great idea! Although it takes the suspense out of KPs...
  20. Me again! I've ben following your progress and it looks like you guys are almost done! I can (almost) say the same! If possible, can somebody please post the Intel82566MM.kext and the VoodooHDA 2.7.4 package/installer that you guys used? I am having trouble getting ethernet to work and the VoodooHDA version I used doesn't give me volume control. Thanks!
  21. Hello all, Sadly, today I was upgraded to an E6410 due to a dead hard drive in my E6400 and therefore no longer have my E6400 to play with...this means I won't be of much use to you guys and anyone else who has a 6400 too (Although, the two are very similar, and most of the issues I've had on it so far (yes, I already started playing with Mountain Lion at work...) are similar to those I've had on the 6400. So if anyone figures out shutdown, sleep, or better volume control, please let me know). I know this might seem like a useless post (and it very well maybe), but I just wanted to say thank you and great job to everyone who contributed to getting Mountain Lion on the E6400.
  22. I am using an external wifi card (Hawking USB Adapter - HWUG1/RT73) The fingerprint reader may be able to work for you; I have a Lenovo T61 with a fingerprint reader. Check out AuthenTec Truesuite for mac (It's free; all you need is the software, not the fingerprint reader itself)...
  23. These are my /Extra/ and /System/Library/Extensions folders; I have most things working. The only problem I can think of now is that the "nub" doesn't work (though I'm sure there are more)... Our systems are identical (if you're signature is up to date). The only thing that is different is your wifi card and the fingerprint reader. Try backing up your folders and replacing them with mine. Just remember to include your wifi kext and don't forget to repair permissions. Sorry about the big file size; Mountain Lion's kexts are pretty big! http://db.tt/CE0FG8gD
  24. I am not really using any one specific boot pack; through all my experimentation, I took the Lion kexts I had and combined them with the M4300 and the E6400/6500 boot packs here... I will try Mariusz DSDT...
