  1. That worked, thanks but I had to do it from the USB since I had Fast enabled for Clover.
  2. Ok, I messed up. I accidentally closed the lid without disabling hibernation and now my laptop keeps restarting on its own. I have pressed spacebar, chose cancel hibernate wake, doesn't seem to work at all. Anything I can do other than reinstall?
  3. Hello everyone, After the surprisingly huge success with El Capitan, I decided to give Sierra a try. This thread is dedicated to get at least the installer running on the Dell E6500. Thoughts, opinions and discussions are also very welcome. (1) Using dosdude1's Sierra Patch, the installer USB creation was a breeze. Without the patch, the installer won't even try to boot (incompatible Mac). http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html (2) Installer USB loads fine. (3) NVDAStartup causes kernel panic when trying to boot into the installer. nvda_drv=1 nv_disable=1 InjectNvidia=false does not work. I am not sure why but Nvidia still try to load the driver when nv_disable=1 is already present. I will post my DSDT.aml, config.plist and kexts later (still using the same ones from El Capitan). That is all for now. Any pointers and tips are highly encouraged. Thank you.
  4. Thanks for your help, Jake. I actually managed to fix the problem (God knows how) but it seems that the AppleUSBUHCIPCI.kext kernel panic was caused by the working USB port not having anything plugged in. I plugged in the mouse and it booted fine. Now I don't have to plug anything in at all. By the way, I am quite surprised that I could watch 1440p videos on YouTube just fine on El Capitan. Are there any differences if I go for the Nvidia Web Drivers? Better or worse?
  5. Got sound working with VoodooHDA. However, I just noticed that Clover cannot boot directly from the HDD (AppleUSBHCIPCI kernel panic) but boots fine through USB... Until I installed the kexts using Easy Kext Installer, where nothing works now. Great, I'll have to remove the kexts somehow. The OS was able to load through the USB installer even without any kexts installed. I wonder what's wrong now. But the most important issue is that I can't boot without the USB (see 1st paragraph). Does anyone have any pointers? Thanks a lot! At this point I'm just considering jumping to Sierra if the AppleUSBHCIPCI is easy to fix (IF).
  6. I have managed to get it installed successfully, however I can't seem to get the audio working. Am I missing something?
  7. Hello, first of all I'm sorry if this kind of thread is not allowed but I'd like to keep a thread of discussion about El Capitan install on the Dell Latitude E6500. If it's not allowed, please lock/delete this thread. OK, let's get to the point. I have managed to boot the installer just fine, however I am not able to proceed with the installer as the installer only shows "Reinstall OS X" and not "Install OS X". As such, this has caused me to not be able to install the OS due to some "eligibility checking" mechanism. I never had this issue when installing Yosemite months ago. Has anyone ran into this problem? How do I fix this? Is it related to the installer that I used or did I do something wrong while making the installer? Thanks a lot and if you have any tips and pointers or anything to discuss about El Capitan for the E6500 please do so here. --- From here on, I will update my progress in this section. 20170319 1950 -- Installer now shows "Install OS X" instead of "Reinstall OS X" after following another guide to setup the USB installer. I will now proceed to with the installation. 20170319 2013 -- Still at "a second remaining". 20170319 2131 -- Finished with everything, including bootloader installation. El Capitan is buttery smooth. It's amazing.
  8. TJmax and TJunction from Intel ARK matched. I think I'll boot up a Linux live CD and see if the temperatures are the same there.
  9. Well, after fixing the AGPM, fine tuning the FakeSMC, passing the fn=4 boot flag, cleaning the guts and reseating the heatsink, the sensor still shows the same number. I want to try reapplying the thermal paste, but since I don't have any, I guess I'm done for now. What's surprising is that it doesn't even feel that hot actually. So I came to a conclusion that the thermal sensor might be broken, since the heat felt pretty much like how I always felt it before. And if it actually overheats, I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to use the laptop for hours and hours, operating normally. I'll try reapplying the thermal paste when I can later, and if it's the same, it have to be the sensors. Thank you for all the help, Herve. I truly appreciate it.
  10. HWMonitor shows that frequency is between x6-x11, with speed varies from 800Mhz to 2.8Ghz. Even at 800Mhz, it's running very hot. GPU temperature seems normal, never in the red but still hot. I'm not sure why it's this hot when the laptop have always been 45+ degrees in idle on Windows/Linux and 60-70 under heavy load. I'll try the article you mentioned. I wanted to do the CPU tuning that you wrote before too, but I figured I don't need to since OP had kindly did it for our CPU, which is the same. EDIT: It seems that according to HWMonitor, my CPU only uses the minimum and the maximum frequency, no other clock speeds were used. Perhaps this is why my CPU have been so hot when the CPU is constantly at maximum frequency even when not under heavy load. Does this mean that my SpeedStep is not working? I've enabled it in the BIOS too. Any ideas how to fix this? EDIT 2: Upon further inspection, it seems that my GPU speed is at a constant, both core and memory. I will try the AGPM edit and see how it goes. EDIT 3: I have successfully gained GPU throttling through AGPM. HWMonitor is showing that the GPU die temperature is decreasing over time. However, I'm still not satisfied with the CPU temperature and I'm seeking to solve this problem by trying to fine tune it myself. Or perhaps let the system cool itself down first and see how it goes. EDIT 4: GPU is fully managed and throttled, CPU SpeedStep is completely functioning. And so I have came up with another theory, perhaps it was the fan all along. It doesn't sound like it was spinning fast enough, as even at the minimum clock, the temperature is at 67+ degrees. Is there any way to make the fan go faster according to the thermal?
  11. Forgive me for asking, but how do I do that? I've tried using one command that I've forgotten and the CPU power management seems to be running. I've also tried VoodoPState kext and PStateChanger but it seems that my CPU is never at the minimum clock, but is at x6-x11 clock speed all the time (according to HWSensor and also Clover's CPU Tuning menu in the boot loader, ratio: x6-x11). Or is this normal (the CPU frequency)? Maybe it is normal, I remember running ThrottleStop and the FID was around 6-11 too, but the heat was never this high.
  12. I got Yosemite to run again on my E6500. Had an unused BCM4311 WWAN card and installed it inside mine. However, I have a serious issue with mine. The temperature seems to be so high when running Yosemite. This have never happened before with any Linux distro I've used and Windows too. Anyone experiencing the same? Fans and all are working just fine. Right now it seems to have cooled down and running at 73 degrees, but it was running at 80-90 degrees all the time on my first boot.
  13. Seems like a USB device is a more viable option but I used one for my sister's laptop. Anyway, my USB mouse suddenly stopped working after rebooting after installing Clover on the HDD and the kexts on my system.
  14. Hello, I tried to install using @howoarang's files on my E6500. Everything worked fine except Wi-Fi and my USB mouse didn't work after booting directly from Clover (Yes, I followed the Clover method since it is a lot easier). Any ideas why? The performance is amazing and I'd love to keep this on my old laptop for my mother to use. But broken wifi and mouse is a total setback to me. EDIT: Ah, I just realized that the wifi card is actually an Intel card. Is there still no solution other than swapping out the card, since it's totally not an option for me right now?
