  1. So I think I built the way Bronx is suggesting. Used OSX Disc Utility and make an image of the SL DVD onto the USB (MBR) stick, then I copied the Extra folder and it was able to install. So I think that avoided the myhack issue with the install, but I had to use my hack to "install" the extras on the HD so if version 3.3.1 won't do that correctly, then that could be the issue. But I can not find a repository for older versions of myhack? Anybody? If I could I'd go back to the 2.2 or 3.1.2 that would be great.
  2. So I had a perfectly running tripple boot Hack on my Dell d430 with a 256 GB SSD (even had the speedstep working, thanks Herve). And then I screwed it up due to my own boneheaded move trying to update the linux partition to mint 17. So I went back to my installer usb stick which had older version of myhack (i think 2.2) and it worked but I always had difficulties getting the bootloader to work from the HD instead of the USB, so I though I'd update the whole stick and start over. Bad idea it seems. Now with Myhack 3.3.1 and SL 10.6 original DVD I can not get a working install. Several failed attempts to build it using myhack as per the forum instructions, then I saw the post here... https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/147-dell-latitude-d430-thread/page-16 ...that says Myhack and SL not good. So I built a new USB as described in that thread using the image of SL and the d430-sl.zip and chameleon. This finally got a working install (missing the battery and sound for some reason) but I figured I can fix that. But I can't get a bootloader onto the HD so it will boot without the USB Chameleon bootloader. It boots fine with the USB, but I've isntalled Chameleon with the myhack, I've installed it on it's own, I've installed it via the EDP. I get the boot0: error everytime I try without the USB loader. I read that was supposed to be fixed in the newer versions of MyHack (and I never had this error before with the older MyHack anyway. Does SL still work with MyHack 3.3.1? Is there another way to do this? Do I need to go back to MyHack 2.2 (which is no longer out there) Any advice as always is greatly appreciated
  3. Thanks, I'm already fully installed with 10.6.8, up and running. It's tripple boot (osx, win7, mint linux) and the linux partition works with the Broadcom card, but it's very slow. The OSX install works fine on the Broadcom card. So I would just add the Intel card to the second slot, remove the Broadcom driver from the Linux side (change nothing on the OSX side) and hope it all goes well. If not I'll remove the card and go back to the original setup.
  4. Thanks, and do you know if the OSX Hackintosh will be able to just ignore the Intel card in the other slot and use the Broadcom kext I already have installed? Or will I get some sort of kernel panic because of the hardware?
  5. So the Dell D430 hackintosh needs the Broadcom wifi card, but my Linux and Windows partitions work better with the Intel wifi card. I see that there appear to be TWO wifi card slots in the D430. Can I put in both cards and tell OSX to use the Broadcom and let the other two OS use the Intel card? Don't know why I didn't see the extra slot before. What do they intend you to do with that slot if not two cards?
  6. Ok, so I saw this and took the challenge. D430 used to have regular HD dual boot OSX 10.6.8 and Win 7. Purchased your same adapter and a 256GB SSD from Amazon. Cost about $130 for both combined. Went for a tripple boot with OSX 10.6.8, Win 7 and Mint Linux 13. Here are the steps I followed. 1. Three partitions. 2. Install OSX on 1st 3. Win 7 on 2nd 4. Linux on 3rd Have to change the Linux partition via GPT sync to make sure all three paritions can be seen. 5. Reinstall Chameleon and fix up the OSX install. 6. Reinstall Linux (now that the partitions are all viewable from the Chameleon loader). 7. Bob's Your Uncle. Works fine. Speeds are much faster. Boot times for OSX went from 50 seconds to 17 seconds (BIOS to the Login). Windows improvement was about the same. Linux is fast as always. Thank you for this thread. It has really made this D430 a very usable machine.
  7. Ok... I got this all worked out. The Linux issue just took a reinstall of Linux. I synced the drives for hybrid MBR/GUID but it wouldn't work until I reinstalled Linux on the last partition. Thankfully, Linux install was the easiest and cleanest of the three. Then went back and EDP updated my Hackinstosh side and it's all good. And the Chameleon now sees all three (although when I select Linux, it still goes to Grub for the final step). But success and man is the SSD much faster. Mac side went from 50 seconds to about 17 on boot up. I've got video of the Mac and Win 7 before and after. I'll post them in the next few days. Windows 7 got twice as fast on boot up as well. And Linux... always fast, now even faster. But I will say the laptop is hotter on the bottom and it seems a little WORSE on battery life. Might need to tweak some power settings for that.
  8. So I reinstalled the Chameleon bootloader and now I only see the OSX and the Win 7. No Linux. How do I get the linux partition to show in the bootloader please.
  9. One more thing. The GRUB loader is on the Linux Parition (sd4) and the OSX Chameleon was on the OSX parition (sd1). When I put the Chameleon back on sd1 (GUID), how do I know it will still see the Win7 on sd2 which is MBR?
  10. -- It's the broadcom, I forget the number but the one that came in the Dell 430. -- I know, I've successfully installed it on the GPT and that is what I am running on right now. -- but the bootloader I am running is the GRUB on the Linux partition (the last one I installed). It is booting all three, but... When I go back to OS X, it boots, but neither the LAN nor the Wireless work, and I can't run EDP since I am not online. I am wondering if the network KEXT's run from the Chameleon bootloader before OS X boots and that is why they are not loading, since I am using the GRUB loader? How do I get it to go back to the Chameloen loader? Should I use the MyHack USB and re-install the Chameleon, and if so, will it still see the windows and linux? Thanks
  11. Ok, I started this weekend. Took my Dell d430 with a 1.8 inch zif and a dual boot (SL and Win7) and installed the msata zif adapter and a 256 gb SSD. My goal was tripple boot SL, Win7 and Mint Linux). I used this as the step by step (http://lifehacker.com/5698205/how-to-triple-boot-your-hackintosh-with-windows-and-linux) but obviously used this site's hack instructions instead of tony. Anyway, it is all working "pretty good" but I have a few things I need help with. First, the hackintosh side worked perfectly until I installed the other two OS, now the SL wireless doesn't work anymore (it did when I started) and neither does the LAN). The Win7 works perfectly and so does the Linux (including broadcom support). But I'm still on the GRUB bootloader and I'm thinking that's the problem with the SL install. I got to the end and the GRUB loader works to boot all three so I was chicken to go back and install the Chameleon cause I didn't want to screw it up since all three sides work (although issues with the SL). Can I/should I use my myhack install USB and reinstall the Chameleon boot loader and if so, will it tripple boot correctly? I'm worried about the Win 7 not working once I much up the MBR and go back to GUID? Any suggestions would be great. I recored the startup times BEFORE i removed the HD and I'll post the new ones once I get things settled. I can already say the Win7 speed is VERY much faster. Linux screams. The SL is clunky but I'm hoping that can be resolved.
  12. So I can't seem to tell from the articles about the recent apple ssl security issue and subsequent fixes for Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks... Does this issue affect Snow Leopard and if there is no patch from apple for SL, are we all screwed (those of us running SL on a Dell d430)? Seems the consensus is that the D430 doesn't do ML or Mavericks very well, if at all. Only thing I have read says use stop using Safari and Apple Mail. Thoughts?
  13. Thanks, that makes sense. And before I start to restore, format the new drive with GUID so I can copy any boot loader over or will one of the two images maintain the boot loader as well?
  14. Ok, I'm game to try this with my dual boot (windows 7 and OSX SL) d430 with a 120GB 1.8" HD. Looking at the Plextor 256 GB mSATA SSD and this adapter. 1. Can I use the image creation and restore from my iHack Mac disc utility to make an image of the entire 120GB disk and recover the full dual boot plus the boot loader? or will it only handle the mac side? 2. My current ZIF is a 120 GB, but I'd like to do a 256 GB SSD. If I can image the original file and restore it, what will happen with the additional 120GB? Will it just be unallocated space? What if I wanted to split the additional space to my 2 dual boot partitions so I had 2 x 128GB instead of 2 x 60GB. Any way to add that space to the other two partitions or will I have to partition the way I want first, then restore the two images somehow? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  15. Thanks, but just to be clear, I'm not asking where to save the chameleon.boot (which yes, does goes in the extra folder). In the second column of the settings in the picture, there is a check box next to SMBios.plist and then below it there is a path box (with a + next to it) that says /volumes/usb_install_ ... I can't tell if he browsed to that path or typed it in, but in either case I don't know what that full path is. I get a yellow triangle next to that box when I fill it out because the path isn't complete or valid?
  16. I Can't make out the file save location of the SMBios.plist in step 7. Can somebody tell me what that says? It looks like there is another underscore and it keep going past /Volumes/USB_Install_
  17. I'm new to this forum and new to Hackintosh. Picked up an old Dell Latitude d430 off Ebay just to tinker with and boot some linux distros. Found this site and thought, what the heck. Now I'm dual boot with Snow Leopard and Win 7. Boot my Linux off USB. I've made a contribution as well. Very cool to have this resouce available. My Broadcom wifi card is on the way to complete the process.
