  1. Update from my end - I can confirm that nothing's fallen apart since installing Clover (I just wish it wasn't so ugly) and iMessage / FaceTime works like a charm.

Also, I was getting a lot of crackle when using Garageband previously. I thought it was a good excuse to play with VoodooHDA, and can confirm that 2.8.2 works perfectly. It can be downloaded at OSX86 (not sure if house rules permit me to link to it here).

I've attached the kext with my modified info.plist in it, as I don't want to use HDMI audio etc - might come in useful for someone.

Thanks for the updated VoodooHDA. I installed it on my system but realized you forgot to enable the mute fix. Attached is the one with it enabled (and with your HDMI audio fix; I didn't want/need (or have?) HDMI audio either :) ).

Instead of clover, I first want to try and use a patched version of Chameleon I found...I'll report back if it works or not.

    jansenspencer's VoodooHDA.kext.zip

  2. I have tried Chameleon 2.1. Which release are you using?. Also do you think the fact that I have an i5 in a motherboard that originally held an i7 makes a difference? I did the motherboard swap to get the nVidia graphics right when I got the laptop.

I am using chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) 1.11.1 (the same bootloader bundled with the rest of the kext files.

    The originally-i5-motherboard shouldn't make a difference.

  3. My issue is related to VGA and sleep. my machine is a slightly different flavor as its a e6510.  Its identical to an e6410 but with a bigger screen(in size not res, as I have the 1366x768)

I see that [AGPM Controller} Unknown Platform is in my boot log, but even when I had fixed that by switching my smbios to MacBookPro6,2 and adding a manual patch to AGPM to fix it,  i still couldnt use VGA.

Any thoughts on what to investigate next?

Have you tried installing Chameleon 2.1? This is what fixed the VGA issue for alerphjuan, if memory serves me correctly...

  4. Ok, scratch that. It happens regardless of power source unless I boot in verbose mode. Weirdly that seems to prevent it (unless it's a coincidence again, and I happen to just be getting lots of Kernel Panics).

I will look through the logs for clues, and try to undo anything I've done recently. First change will be to switch back to chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) as in the original ML 10.8.2 pack you posted, Patel... I changed to a patched version of Chameleon when playing around with the iMessage issue, it wouldn't surprise me if that was linked to my current problems. Not sure why verbose would make a difference to the outcome though?

I'll update here, just in case anyone else with a similar issue stumbles across this post in the future

I had a similar problem with the verbose-mode-only boot a few months ago after my Windows partition crashed and I had to rebuild my drive. Re-installing chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) did the trick for me!

  5. Hi Patel

I wish it would make me smarter to slap myself...I just did as you instructed and PRESTO! my sound is good. I too just used Chameleon as my bootloader with no problem at all. I have never even thought to chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) at all. Now i have a Hacbook Pro 8,1 complete with Bluetooth,  Wifi, Sound and video working perfectly. I am very happy as whatever don't work i don't need anyway...lol. How about creating a EDP for this site officially. as I think you have managed to perfect this Install for the E6410. Don't forget I have the system with Intel Graphics. Yipeeeeeee! this thing is sosoooo snappy.

Do you think if i changed the Processor to i7, would it cause any troubles.

PS. I am still timid about the Update...

    Thank you good sir!

Great! It is definitely a quick HacBook...

I don't think it would cause any trouble (other than your BIOS settings having to be re-setup) to upgrade to an i7. Don't forget the thermal squares!

  6. Hi all - is anyone else getting these problems?

    1. KP when on battery? Fine when I'm plugged into AC, but no joy when I'm unplugged. Seems to relate to apple ps2 keyboard kext.

    2. iMessage can't authenticate ("Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."). I've tried the various tips & tricks I've seen via a few Google searches, but can't get past this.

    1. Do you mean when booting you get a kernel panic? I get that sometimes too (1 in every 20 boots) but only have to restart by holding down the power button.

    2. I have the same problem. This is a wide-spread issue among hackintoshes. I haven't found a working solution yet.

  7. Sorry for the confusion. I had used chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) 1.11.1 from the guide initially.  Then I just installed Chameleon 2.1. I got them confused for the same thing lol.  I had been doing a lot of googling and did not realize that these pertained to video in any way.  I saw the chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) version was at 1.11.1 and somehow got it confused with Chameleon and saw that the version of Chameleon was at 2.1.  So I installed and it fixed it.  Total blind luck of a fix for me considering it was because of a mix up.

Great! I just added your solution to the guide. Thanks!

Followed the guide, first time newbie... after 7 hours or so I got it working..

The first time failed because i used the E6410 ML file.. it would complete the install but crash on bootup. I then noticed there was a newer version at the bottom called E6410 ML 10.8.2. I started over using the guide using the newer E6410 ML 10.8.2 files but now the install wouldn't finish. I would get to about 2-4 min left and it would fail WITHOUT prompting to install the extras.

Here is what worked for me.

    1. I followed all the preinstall steps and patched & Kext my boot disk with the older E6410 ML files. EXCEPT at the very end i copied the E6410 ML AND the E6410 ML 10.8.2 files over to my install disk.

    2. I ran the install and it finished, when it prompted me to install custom extras I picked the newer E6410 ML 10.8.2 folder.

reboot and system fired right up, everything post install worked as inspected.

    e6410

    i5

    Nvida 3100m

hope that helps someone. Thanks again for taking the time to write a detailed guide.. I've already ordered a Broadcom wifi.. as I had the intel one :-/

Congratulations! Thank you very much for letting me know about this. I just updated the guide, so hopefully no one else should have this problem again. You will definitely be helping someone :)

  8. UPDATE:

I have finally been successful in getting my external monitor via the VGA port working!!!  All I needed to do was update my Chameleon to version 2.1 and that did the trick. Everything is fully functional minus the SD card reader.

Good to hear (or read :P)!

When you say Chameleon, did you mean you used Chameleon and not chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) from the guide? I only ask because I would like to update the guide with the most recent version that works.

  9. Hi Patel,

I am very grateful to you sir for your efforts.

I just realized that my sound does not work. My system says it is installed but no output or input. Help! everything else work but for sound.

Did i miss a step for the sound not to work. hehehe biting my nails here...kinda....just happy to see ML on my E6410

Have you installed voodoohda? Specifically the one from the guide?

  10. Possibly an understatement... ;-)

I'm sending this from my newly-installed e6410 running 10.8.2 thanks to a flawless guide from Patel4Prez (and a replacement nVidia system board)!

I'm pleased that I made the swap, as it was a fairly cheap upgrade and the dedicated graphics alongside 8Gb ram and an SSD makes it a pretty solid performer.

    Next steps are:

    - complete the post-install instructions

    - get TRIM working

    - find a new project to distract myself ;-)

Thanks again Patel, really good job! :)

That's excellent news! It definitely is a great performing machine with the ssd...

I too need to get TRIM working...a word if caution though, make sure your drive supports it before enabling it.

  11. Hi Patel

I am happy to have come across your guide i too was having trouble with my E6410 i5 8Gig Intel GPU. I took the time to read almost the whole thread to get my machine up and running. At first my machine would not allow the Mouse and Ethernet to work. But after trying different combos, I realize that you have to choose the extra from the stick and not the generic one that my hack tries to install.

So when the install ask you choose just choose "My own" and navigate to the extra that is in the E6410 folder that Patel provides.

Now all my stuff works. Plus it is not calling my machine a iMac anymore but a Macbook Pro 8,1 in System Information.

I AM SCARED TO UPGRADE 10.8.2 THOUGH MR Patel do you think it is safe to do so? lol

    Hello Bigman,

Great news! An E6410 with the Intel GPU has proved to be challenging to get up and running with the guide, so good job on your part.

I do think it is safe to upgrade to 10.8.2, but only if you follow the guide with the zip files to do so.

I would also suggest making a backup using Time Machine and keeping your Installation USB drive handy, so if anything does go wrong, you can get back to a usable state quickly and easily.

  12. Thanks much... unfortunately no dice =( . I'm  really not sure what im doing wrong. I know the VGA port works. I was using the external monitor on my previous installation of Win XP on the E6410.  I have tried different variations. I have tried to boot with it attached (which goes directly into a black screen) When I use the detect displays button both screens go black. The external is catching a signal though.  When I disconnect it tells me no signal present and when I reconnect it takes a second and goes into power save mode. I have checked the front panel setup on the display for any possible features on the monitor and found nothing. I also checked my BIOS and found nothing indicative to being related to VGA output, external displays or anything of the sort. What steps do you do exactly to get yours working. I wish I had a second monitor to test out, is it possible that this monitor doesn't work with make or maybe the resolution or something like that is screwing it up?

Really the only things I do to get my external display working are, 1.) Plug it in, 2.) Start using it! What's good in this situation (I guess) is that the external monitor is getting SOMETHING...

In my experience with the Dell monitors, most of them will tell you that the resolution is too high, so unless you get a message that says so, it's probably not the resolution.

I've also got a dumb question for you: Are you closing the lid on the laptop when you plug in the external monitor?

  13. patel could you please link me your DSDT and possibly give me a brief howto or a link to one? I'm still at a standstill on the VGA port ( which I dont get because Ive read multiple posts that it should be working OOTB ) thanks =)

I will definitely do that as soon as I get home from work! I will most certainly post a how to here on replacing it (you really only have to move it to the /Extra folder)... I too don't get why it doesn't work OOTB. If you have another drive with windows, I would test it and see if it works. The only other thing I can think of if that doesn't work is to check your BIOS settings.

    Finally made it back here!

I know I promised I would post this yesterday, so sorry about that...

Anyway, here it is! Let us know how it goes, and best of luck!

  15. Ok Im back up and running. The problem turned out being that I needed to remove steps 22-38 on the creating installer list on page one of this thread. This just happened by a stroke of luck. I have tried the detect displays suggestion and it did not work. I have tried to install nvinject as well and no luck. The mac screen goes to black after selecting detect displays and the external monitor just goes into power save mode, leaving me with 2 black screens. I have a DSDT file that some people have said makes the vga port work and they are using the exact same nvidia card and laptop model as I am ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/219229-guide-dell-latitude-e6410/page__st__100 ). Im just not sure how to patch the DSDT.  I did find out that it was the install of Pdanet that was what caused my system to not be able to boot. I recreated it and then removed pdanet through safe mode. I wish I would have known this before doing a whole new install lol, but Im learning and thats the point I guess lol. So im back to trying to get this vga port up and running, I would love to be able to use my hackbook on a larger screen.

Glad you figured it out. I meant to report back the day before on the VGA status. It works for me just fine. In fact, I'm typing this whilst using my secondary monitor! Not sure what the problem on your end could be. If you like, I'll post my DSDT. It should be the same as whatever is in the zip files.

Quite interesting that not replacing/repairing the kext/kext permissions is what solved your problem. If enough people have the same problem you did, and skipping those steps solves it, I will be sure to remove it.

Also interesting that PDANet broke your HacBook. I installed it about a month ago (but ditched it in favor of android's wifi tether) and didn't have a problem.

Keep in mind that the guide you are reading on insanelymac is from the Snow Leopard days of OS X on the 6410. Applying the same fixes that worked back then may not necessarily work now (I learned that pretty quickly when trying to figure out how to get ML on this thing!  :)).

  16. i need to boot with PCIRootUID=1 and npci=0x2000 or it gets stuck @ pci configuration begin. and i used  the org.chameleon.boot.plist from the install zip to install but it had the same issue as ive got now, so i used the one jebediah supplied. same issue.

So it gets passed pci configuration begin and then goes to a black screen?

If that's the case, then try with PCIRootUID=0

  17. No it is not showing up on my desktop. Should the partition on the USB drive be set to MBR or GUID?

It should be GUID (or MBR if that doesn't work) and the partition should be Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)/HFS+.

The fact that it doesn't show on the desktop may mean it's incorrectly partition or not initialized. When you are on the info screen of the drive in disk utility, is there an "Initialize" button in the top bar?

  18. well, it seems as if the backlight turns off just as its booting. I tried forcing the screen res (as jebediah suggested) and that didn't work, same as either injector. if i keep the injectors off, screen still turns off. I've tried removing my second hdd with my backup copy of snow leopard, just to be sure it wasn't trying to use my snow leo dsdt, same issues.

Try to boot with "PCIRootUID=1" and/or "npci=0x2000"/"npci=0x3000" (without the quotes)...

Are you using the org.chameleon.boot.plist from the install zip in the first post?

  19. Yes I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the usb in vmware and physically. I have also tried rebooting the guest installation.  It does show in disk utility and I am able to interact with the drive.  The only thing it is not showing up in is Kext Wizard.  It says on the target disk drop down menu... choose, item 2 item 3 .  Thank you for the response, this has been driving me nuts lol.

Does it show on the desktop? As far as I know, if the drive shows up on the desktop, it should have no reason not to show up in Kext Wizard...

  20. Hello all, I have scoured through the 8 pages in this thread in hopes of finding the answer to the problem Im running into and have had no luck thus far =(.  First off my system specs are as follows and are pretty much identical to the ops:

    Dell Latitude E6410

    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7

    4 GB 1.17 GHz DDR3

    NVS 3100M 512 MB

    BIOS v. A13

    w/ optional bluetooth

The problem I'm running into has nothing to do with the install itself but with the usb preperation. I have followed all of the steps to the letter and when it comes time to run Kext Wizard and update the kext files, Kext Wizard does not see my target drive. The options I get are choose, item 1 & item 2 . None of these let me select any of the options needed or allow me to update. I have also tried Kext dropper, and Kext Utility with no luck. I have seen this issue mentioned at least twice on other forums through google searches, but have no solutions posted. Please if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks =)

edit: The USB flash drive I am using is a 16 GB Sandisk Cruzer Glide and using a Mountain Lion 10.8 install on VMware (guest) via Win 7 host to format the USB stick

Im not sure if this would keep me from installing , not using the kext wizard and all, but I have tried several different variations without that step and it just hangs at the apple logo and spinning wheel whenever I try to install. Bios has been set to defaults and Sata is sat to AHCI. Im kind of new to all of this but have tried just about everything I can find and/or think of. Im so frustrated at this point =(

The only thing I could think of that would be getting in your way using your setup is VMware. Are you making sure you reconnect the USB drive to the virtual machine after you notice it dissapearing? If you did reconnect it, does it show up in disk utility?
