  1. I'm thinking teh exact same thing right now. I have an i5 already but the specs don't make it a good candidate. Have u seen this? http://www.hackintosh.nl/content/237-best-buy-guide-v2.html Hard for me to understand but I think the long and the short is - buy that hardware use their iso -- poof done!
  2. I was wondering about that. It claims to do everything except wash the dishes. I'd be interested in trying one out. Nice that it's usb and you could try it on various systems incl an adapter on your dell.
  3. Check this out. From beginning to end a hackintosh in a Xbox!! http://www.tuaw.com/2009/11/26/os-xbox-pro-is-the-hottest-hackintosh-ever/
  4. Want the quick and easy way? Silly question .. of course you do! If you already have installed chameleon simply delete the boot file from the root and replace with the boot file from Anval 4.15. --- tada! done.
  5. Use my kextpack. Everything works including sleep as long as you use the wiki guide as well with exception to using a system pass ( not req'd). Also install use Anval 4.15 which I will include here. It fixes the fsb issue and your cpu will run at 2 ghz. I'm also including the geekbench results for those not using Anval to show the difference before ( with chameleon) and after with Anval 4.15. (noticeable improvement) AnVAL5.1.4.zip before.rtf after.rtf note: remove IOATAFamily.kext from my pack if you are running 10.6.6

    Slow HDD

Nothing a sweet SSD Drive couldn't fix!
  7. I was just about to say AnVal 5.14 fixed the prob with FSB but you beat me to it bro. Upon further reading though Chameleon gets rather testy if you blame them for the issue since they say it's due to a bios issue. ie bios is setting the fsb wrong and normally windows ignores the value and sets the fsb properly but osx uses the bios output and does not adjust. There was a kext I tried called CPUmhzFix.kext that would also work but it was designed for a non vanilla kernel and caused lots of issues. For me, Anval works and what I'll be running till something better comes along. Some also suggested there is a work around in dsdt for setting the fsb as well and we may want to consider that option since loaders come and go.

    Slow HDD

uuugh 4200 is dog slow. Make sure you also do a quick smart check too. That drive is kinda old. http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
  10. I must be doing something wrong? deleted ps2nub, all other versions of voodoops2 and ps2controller, cleared cached, touched extensions, booted with -f. Keyboard working but no trackpad action at all on d630.
  11. Will do but there is a problem with the fsb and chameleon regardless of speedstep. Don't think coolbook can solve that. Does coolbook actually cool your notebook better that say speedstep though .. performance wise it is improved? Just don't wanna spend the money unless it's really going to be a benefit.
  12. Strange behavior with Slice's branch Chameleon. I am FINALLY getting full speed on the fsb and nice to see 2 ghz instead of 1.81 but when I launch about this mac I get a steady pinging sound and mouse clicks to open folders is delayed or doesn't open. Other than that sleep working audio video .. all good. Also tried Anvil but my cpu speed drops to 1.2 ghz! Ouch.
  13. Last time I tried slices bootloader .. and I'm not saying this to put down his work as it's brilliant but I ended up having to press enter a couple of times in order to boot from the loader. Is there a link to slice's newest boot loader? Sorry if I should know been horribly busy. Actually .. Mariusz ..would it be possibe for you to zip your extra and slices loader up for the 630?
  14. I'd like to see that option too. I even thought about modding my unit with a switch as a workaround I want it so bad. I HATE my typing interfered with!!
  15. Mariusz can u find out why the d630 gmax3100 is only showing 1.81 ghz on about? Still haven't been able to solve that issue. I tried playing with the smbios plist and setting it to a Late 2007 macbook which is imo a closer match .. both use a conroe 2.0 ghz core2 duo and then set the cpu speed to 2000 mhz ... but still 1.81 ghz under system profiler. ty bro here's the plist I made .. some idiot posted his serial number online so I snagged it. smbios.zip
  16. I'm seeing the lucky sevens now too. I left terminal open and closed the lid... can confirm the bug is there even prior ver of dsdt.
  17. Excellent! Don't worry the hard part is over and the rest will come in time. Little by little those issues will vanish as fixes come down the line. Main thing is you have a running Snow Leopard ! I too noticed the long wait on reboot. very strange shutdown behavior where your dell will go to purgatory for 30 secs or so. Not sure what that's all about but funnily enough I once had installed slice's bootloader just to experiment with it .. and that abnormality was gone. So it must be boot loader related or dsdt issue. Cheers, and nice Job man.
  18. Not sure why it's loading natit? I'm wondering .. when you rebuilt .. did you just select 1) rebuild and then A) from existing? Please note if you completely rebuild you will lose the modified extra I created. If it's booting properly from USB simply delete the extra once again, install my files to Extra, delete ioatafamily from /Extra/Extensions and then rebuild from existing. Also repair extensions and clear cache. That's it .. oh and also make sure you have set to ATA and not AHCI. gl bro.
  19. That's weird .. try to isolate .. maybe the dsdt?
  20. No worries man and ya sometimes taking a fresh run at something is better than trying when yer tired. I'm always better on a new day at stuff. I might be a little busy 2morrow cuz I got a few onsites but I'll try and take a look on the thread to see how yer makin out when I can. ^5
  21. run the edptool one more time .. make sure you only rebuild though okay, don't do a new install. That sounds strangly like you reran the install? Also make sure you run repair permissions before rebooting. So .. just to recap.. and I know this works cuz its working for me: copy my pack, remove ioatafamily, edptool, rebuild from present config ONLY, repair permissions, reboot. -- that should do it bro. If you reran the build you might have the wrong voodoohda right now.If that's the case start over again by copying my pack to /extra again.... yer almost there
  22. Just got your messages and see you tried iFail rather than using original sl. Not something that anyone will be ever able to 100% support. I would rather we try to figure out why your pen install isn't working. Can you confirm if you have the sata operation set for AHCI or ATA in the bios? Please make sure you have it set for ata. I forgot to mention that mine was set for ata --- my bad but frankly probably didn't think it mattered. If that still doesn't work. Please do a -v -x -s while booting and take a look at the kp message.
