  1. So these are my outstanding issues right now 1) Shutdown does not kill power to laptop - I can live with that 2) Keyboard layout - I have searched hi and lo on the forums but cannot seem to find what I need. Will keep looking and is my top priority right now 3) SD Card - Just discovered not working. Tried VoodooSDHC, no luck. Tried IOSDHCIBlockDevice, no luck. Not sure there is any other kext to try. Some day I hope to find solution to 2. I think I might I might have to switch to VoodooPS2Controller, since every dsdt patch i have attempted has not yielded any result, nor has any keyboard.dylib. 1 and 3 I can learn to live without. PS Wireless Card inserted DW1505 and works OOTB In few days I will post final DSDT and kexts, maybe it will help someone. Meanwhile I will begin with another laptop. Thanks all.
  2. Copy that! 4 out of 4 above. I removed NULLCPUPM Sleep works. Restart WORKS !!! Major Item : Shutdown will not Power off laptop. Minor Items: Numlock key power light is NOT on, but laptop behaves like it is, Windows Key not mapped to Apple Key BUT Alt Key (is this normal)? I thought I had SHUTDOWN patch applied to my DSDT, but I will verify again. If you have any suggestions for my keyboard issue. For my e6500 I found a "module" directory in my Extra Folder that made my keys work correctly. Not sure if I need something similar. PS - I cannot thank all of you enough. When I did my e6500 things just worked. With this laptop, I have learnt so much and gained confidence to try other laptops.
  3. Okay default setting for hibernatemode was 3. I changed it to 0. No dice. Googled. learnt DSDT might be issue. Simply dropped my DSDT into Extra folder. Sleep working. What's more? I can also boot of hard drive. I haven't reverted to latest FakeSMC, but still kept the D630 tuned one. So what stopped working? Battery Status. It disappeared. In System Preferences I see check box disabled. I enable it and I see battery indicator flash on top bar, but then disappears, and check box gets disabled by itself. Huh ??? Looked at D630 pack. Saw ACPIBatteryManager. A-ha. Installed. Battery Status working. Shutdown not working. But wait, Restart stopped working too....huh. Will try patching AICPUM. Can I use this one? https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/7853-vanilla-and-patched-yosemite-kernels-patched-aicpupm-kexts/ Or should I play with my DSDT?
  4. Oh, I thought I needed to patch AICPUM kext and then remove NCPUPM since my reading of forums suggested it always breaks all power management functions. I think you meant hibernate not hidernate. Just checking, and might this also solve my shutdown issue - screen blanks but laptop will not turn off?
  5. Guys you won't believe this. My problem was faulty memory module. So I replaced one of the module, and then used those 4 kexts with D630 pack and NO dsdt and worked!!! How much time I wasted... I have 10.10.5 installed now. Will update this post as I get things working. First thing I need is to be able to boot without USB, then patching AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement so I can get rid of NullCPUPowerManagement, then fix Ethernet. I know my Wi-fi card is not compatible and will purchase one that is. Would appreciate if anyone can start me off with why I can't boot off the hard drive. Working - Restart (surprised) - Bluetooth (didn't need any kext) - Sound (installed VoodooHDA manually) - Volume Up/Down/Mute buttons (I guess because of Voodoo) - Ethernet (installed AppleBCM440XEthernet using KextWizard) Not Working - Sleep (not surprised) - Shutdown (not surprised) - Boot directly from Hard Drive (Big Problem) - Volume seems to start from 50% (huh?) - Arrow Keys, PgUp, PgDown keys (what a nuisance)
  6. Yes, I checked my PM, but what you are saying is a little difficult. I'm building my USB on a latitude e6500 with Yosemite 10.10.5 By the way, if I use kexts from the svn trunk (of course they are not the same kexts exactly since file sizes are different), then i do not get the permissions errors. I only get them on the kexts from D630 pack. Regardless, symptom at the end is the same. It starts installing and it freezes. Also, I know I have permission errors, but I'm executing the commands the guides and you provided. Why are the permissions not getting fixed? Basically I seem to need D630 texts, but with those I can't get rid of the permission errors and therefore I cannot ever verify what is right or wrong. Maybe I will try another laptop and come back to this one latter. I have a similar looking Dell Vostro.
  7. So this HAS to be my problem. I put the 4 minimal kexts in /L/E this time. Used chmod/chown, then touched both /S/L/E and /L/E, and then ran the command to kextcache, and I again see this ... Why? sudo /Volumes/SonyUSB/usr/sbin/kextcache -Boot -U /Volumes/SonyUSB -K /Volumes/SonyUSB/System/Library/Kernels/kernel rebuilding /Volumes/SonyUSB/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/kernelcache NullCPUPowerManagement.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. LPCSensors.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. GPUSensors.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. CPUSensors.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. ACPISensors.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. FakeSMC.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. ApplePS2Keyboard.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. ApplePS2Controller.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting. AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext has incorrect permissions; omitting.
  8. Okay. Since I know for a fact USB is not my problem - I've been working with 2nd Hard Drive - I'm going to build USB again with above instructions. I'm afraid if I keep opening and closing laptop and mounting unmounting drive in caddy, I'm going to break something. So one last time I will build boot disk both ways, and from then carry forward with USB only. Will report here... So once again, all kexts did not load. And the last command finished so quickly doubt it did anything. It almost seems as if it was okay those 4 kexts not in /S/L/E and more, but then it didn't even look for them in /L/E. So used -v, -f, and needless to say, didn't make any difference. Once again, frozen at 16 minutes left. Mouse is frozen, hard drive light is off. Going to rebuild USB now and never going back to hard disk for booting - seems pointless. This time will not follow directions in original guide exactly, but put the 4 kexts in /L/E from the get go and then use commands given above in this thread. I think I'm following Einstein's definitions of insanity here - doing the same thing over and over expecting different outcome. I just wish at least my outcome changes little bit.
  9. Err...I took the plist from D630 and it very much has it. Please see below. However, now I see UseKernelCache is also "Yes". And I can tell you it is skipping cache even if I manually provide the option. What the heck is going on I can't figure out. And if you can also please tell me if anything wrong in how I built the kext cache based on output of common I listed above. I think that's where the problem might be, but you know best. FWIW, when booting with -v, both -v and kext-dev-mode=1 are clearly listed on the console display <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1440x900x32</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>kext-dev-mode=1</string> <key>PrivateData</key> <string>No</string> <key>SystemType</key> <string>2</string> <key>Theme</key> <string>Default</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>1</string> <key>UseKernelCache</key> <string>Yes</string> </dict> </plist>
  10. So now I'm being very meticulous and not just doing what is asked but observing more carefully. I have just finished building my USB and will be attempting install shortly. However, I wanted to run the output of my kext caching. Please tell me if this is a problem. PS - Herve, I didn't put my kexts in /L/E since I didn't want to make a mistake this time so followed guide meticulous and copied by 4 kexts to /S/L/E (AppleACPIPS2Nub, ApplePS2Controller, FakeSMC, NullCPUPowerMangement). I'm not sure where other kexts came from. I'm assuming they were already in /S/L/E. Especially VoodooPS2Trackpad one. I thought everything "Voodoo" was not from Apple. Also, I'm worried ApplePS2Controller and FakeSMC did not get picked up. Except NullCPUPowerManagement, the 3 kexts are from D630 pack you indicated few posts back. NullCPUPowerManagement is from svn trunk 346. PPS - Once again, /S/L/E not loading, so I have to use -f. I'm pretty sure not loading otherwise since barely get screenful of kext loading instead of several screenfuls I'm used to seeing. I have triple checked instructions on how to fix permissions and cache kexts and am attaching my plists. Regardless, same problem. First, I also have to use -x to get to Language Selection screen. Then few seconds after install begins, mouse frozen, USB light off, Hard Drive light off. There has to be a reason. sudo /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System\ 1/usr/sbin/kextcache -Boot -U /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System\ 1 -K /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System\ 1/System/Library/Kernels/kernel rebuilding /Volumes/OS X Base System 1/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/kernelcache kext file:///Volumes/OS%20X%20Base%20System%201/System/Library/Extensions/NullCPUPowerManagement.kext/ is in hash exception list, allowing to load LPCSensors.kext has invalid signature; omitting. GPUSensors.kext has invalid signature; omitting. CPUSensors.kext has invalid signature; omitting. ACPISensors.kext has invalid signature; omitting. FakeSMC.kext has invalid signature; omitting. VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext has invalid signature; omitting. ApplePS2Keyboard.kext has invalid signature; omitting. ApplePS2Controller.kext has invalid signature; omitting. kext file:///Volumes/OS%20X%20Base%20System%201/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext/ is in hash exception list, allowing to load plist.zip
  11. Actually my /E/E kexts are getting loaded, but that's because I'm doing it wrong (myHack should not be used). I didn't know about /L/E but only /S/L/E and was loath to copy things in /S/L/E. Will use /L/E. I'm building my "disk usb" right now. Darn thing takes 2-3 hours, but as long as i works... UPDATE - Guys the USB is not my issue. My "disk usb" also fails as soon as install starts copying files. I'm going to rebuild USB one more time. I'm following below link "Yosemite Post". https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/7914-dell-latitude-e6220-with-intel-i5-2520m-hd3000-and-1366x768-lcd-mavericksyosemite/ PS - Forgot to mention earlier, I do see a FakeSMC error with the tuned kext I'm using from D630 pack. Not sure if this is normal. This is actually why I'm building USB one last time. If I still get the same issue, I'm going to continue to use normal FakeSMC (will need to figure out which unless someone can tell me) and keep hacking the DSDT. Not sure what else left to do at this point. Hate to be so close but not able to do it. I really appreciate everyone's patience and reading this thread to try and help me.
  12. So what is the solution? About 50% of the time I can get to Disk Utilities, but then it will hang during installation. There has to be some explanation. Maybe some kext? I've tried different guides for making USB stick on the forums. No dice. Sucks most intensely. Shall I go back to trying with DSDT and if so, can I keep the tuned FakeSMC or shall I go with original one? Or maybe DSDT or not is not the issue. Something fundamentally wrong with my hardware? I even tried another Hard Drive. So I partitioned my drive and built a "boot partition". I tried to boot off this partition but was not able. I still needed the USB stick. However, then I selected the boot partition. Now how come I have same issue? Install starts copying files and freezes, just like before. If things are running off the hard disk boot partition now, and my original issue was USB, then I shouldn't have this problem. So is it USB issue or something else? Hope someone can provide insight. My next move would be to remove my Windows drive and use whole drive in its place with boot partition, if for no other reason than to prove USB is not the issue and something else. What a pain!
  13. Attached. Of course, following advice here I'm not using any dsdt - patched or unpatched. Thanks. PS - It almost seems like my USB goes to "sleep" or something. Is this possible? Because sometimes it hangs before getting to language selection screen and then I get "disk1s2: media not present" Extra.zip
  14. Yeah computer is clean. I started installing, then it stopped and mouse freeze. Not sure if there is any truth to the "keep moving your mouse" theory. I tried it, but it still froze. Starts with "17 minutes left". Hangs at "16 minutes left". Mouse is frozen, so I doubt it is doing anything in the background. USB light is also not on. Bummer.
  15. Yes. I edited my post above. After coming home this evening on a "cool computer". Maybe have a fan next to it or something. I know I sound dumb, but I've been thinking about this for a while. Whenever I got to the language screen, I was starting computer after long time. After a while of reboots, computer starts misbehaving and then whatever I'm trying adds a new dimension to the confusion. Not sure if I have a hardware issue with heat in general, or some Apple Kext is causing my computer to overheat.
  16. Yippee!!! Yahoo!!! etc. etc. etc. So I'm not going to give anyone my raw DSDT. Just kidding. So in a moment of clarity, I decided to try something different. No DSDT of course. 1) Just the tuned FakeSMC. I get to Language Selection screen. Keyboard / Trackpad don't work. Pondering my next move....No HPET(s)... !!! 2) Add ApplePS2Controller and AppleACPIPS2Nub. Again get to language selection screen. Select Language and hit Enter. 5 seconds later...No HPET(s)...! 3) Add NullCPUPowerManagement. Again get to language selection screen. Select Language and hit Enter. BINGO !!! I played around with Disk Utility and Terminal, expecting No HPET(s)....but never got it. Looks like good progress to me. My best guess is ACPIBatteryManager was my problem. However at this point, I could care less, because I think I can add any remaining kexts later once I have a successful install. So then, just for kicks, I changed to different USB port, but forgot to enter -v boot option. Apple Logo Hang - don't get this. Why should absence of -v cause a hang? So decide to try again with -v and get "AppleSMBusPCI::start failed to get acpi path for provider" and it halts. Moved back to the original port where I had success and on purpose did not specify -v. No issues - back to language selection screen. Do not get No HPET(s)... So I dunno why, but at least one ONE USB port I am having some luck. (Update: 2 USB ports work, 3 fail each in different ways) ***Update*** - After my compute is running for a while, ALL USB ports fail ***. I'm not kidding. I think trick might be to let laptop cool down and then do everything as fast as possible I have attached my RAW DSDT and my PATCHED DSDT. I'm about ready to swap out my Linux HD for a new one and try my luck. Please tell me if I should continue with above approach without DSDT. Or I should use regular FakeSMC and any DSDT edits you can suggest and then try. Of course if I use DSDT I hope I can get as far as I have gotten right now. dsdt_inspiron_1720.zip
  17. I'm sure at least part of my problem is my inexperience. One thing on my todo list is start over. Any other suggestions you can make I can incorporate. I will provide my raw dsdt shortly (still at work). The kexts I used from the D630 pack with its tuned FakeSMC of course. Only thing I added which didn't help was the NULLCPU...and the SleepEnabler.
  18. No, but I will match the patience shown by you experts here and try everything you suggest. Just trying to keep my head straight. I will also try what you suggest.
  19. I found the EDP trunk for osxlatitude with a treasure trove of kexts and utilities Tried with NullCPU... and SleepEnabler. And NO dsdt, of course. No Dice. I did some reading and learnt this was only going to get me past the KP, if at all, and I would have to remove it after installation. Unfortunately it had absolutely no effect. I'm totally deflated right now. Really appreciate any other suggestions. I feel I have reached my limits patching DSDT as well, so not seeing a third route at this time.
  20. Thanks Herve. At some point I will try this. Don't want to mess up by e6500 Yosemite install right now (since using it to prepare USB to get Inspiron 1720 working)
  21. Err...I misunderstood when you say not patched. I will simply use D630 pack. I was actually using the one at below location filtered for Notebook, Core2Duo, Dell and provides D630 as the first result. http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/compatibility/ The location you provided does not have any links for my Graphics card so I tried with the one for 10.10 and without DSDT. I used all 3 plists including kernel.plist. I'm getting the "No HPET(s)..." KP every time. Sometime during the boot. Sometimes while on language selection screen. One time made it to Disk Utilities and then got it. Attaching *that* screenshot here... I tried with NULLCPUPowerManagement.kext - Did not help at all. So I think did exactly what you said now without DSDT I am back at HPET kernel panic. What can I try next?
  22. So this is what I did. 1) Reverted to unpatched DSDT. 2) Replaced my smbios.plist with one from D630 pack 3) Replaced my FakeSMC.kext with one from D630 pack. Did not use NULLCPU...kext even though I saw it in the D630 pack. Boot from USB halts on.. GeforceSensors: still waiting for accelerator to start. 4) Changed USB port, made it past above line, but now halting on ... AppleUSBEHCI::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 0xfd, timing out! (Adds: 2, EP: 1) 5) Used USBBusFix=Yes boot flag. Back to square one - KP on No HPETs available. 6) Put NULLCPU...kext in Extra/Extensions of USB and applied myFix. Back to error in 4) above. 7) Changed USB port, AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement timeout, followed by ACPIBatteryManager Timeout Expired. Entering familiar territory now Please help. Or I have no choice but to go back to patching the DSDT with no end in sight.
  23. Okay I will use RAW DSDT I extracted and use the D630 pack. However, I thought my unpatched DSDT was result of prior KPs? Anyways I will try what you are saying. By the way, I"m using myHack to install the Extra folder. Hope that's okay? I was just planning on reverting DSDT and then using myHack to put the D630 pack. I believe smbios and P/C states I'm using like you suggested. Same ones I used when I successfully did my e6500. Last thing - what about NULLCPU...Kext? And can I just change whatever I have to 5.1 in smbios.plist? Or do I need to change other parameters as well?
  24. Don't understand your post entirely, but I can try disabling/removing wireless card. I did try on multiple USB ports. Same result - random halt, no apparent error. Not sure hpet,irq,5,11,whatever. Will google to understand.
  25. Okay so you are saying I am past my DSDT issues? If so, that's good. If you are saying I should just sit on that screen and eventually I should see language selection screen, I'm afraid that's not happening. On the other hand, now that I had a clear message in the KP, I did some Googling. If I'm understanding what I'm reading correctly, NullCPUPowerManagement should let me boot my USB and install OS X, but I will loose Power options like Sleep. Once I get OS X installed, I can patch the Apple Kext. My only problem, boot hangs at random places. ONCE I was able to get to language selection screen. Next time hung at different place. Any insight? What I don't want is start installing and then it hangs and then again I'm back to square one, assuming I hit the language selection screen again. I've only been able to do so ONCE in 20 reboots.
