Install OSX 10.7 Lion on D630 X3100

Why do you add Mariusz's kexts? What's the purpose?

You should only have to follow the documented procedure, i.e. :

- myHack with dedicated bootpack to install 10.7.2

- install combo update 10.7.5 (no reboot on completion)

- install and run EDP (EDPWeb) for D630 Intel HiRes (after which you can reboot to 10.7.5)

That's it. The only possible missing item would be the wireless kext if you have a card that does not work OOB.

SUCESS !! (again)

I clicked on updates but, decided to follow LOSTVAMPIRE advise and went to the apple website and downloaded 10.7.5 update combo. so i ran that.

I need to point out to every one that follows this that when the installer reach towards the end and it said: "about a minute remaining" it took a long time. about half an hour after it said about a minute remaining i thought it was stuck so i left the machine alone and went out cause i didn't want to look at it. lol

Came back home about two hours later and sure enough had the wonderful message: software installed successfully.

Rebooted and now I'm at 10.7.5.. everything works the way its supposed to. I didnt have to re-run myhack or EDP or nothing.

Basically what im saying is don't get desperate.. leave the machine alone and walk away.. it takes a long while for the update to complete once it says about a minute remaining..

Question:

My D630 has a 2.0 processor yet when i click on about this mac it reports the processor as 1.81 GHz, does any one knows why ? I am at A17 BIOS.

also whats the fastest processor i can upgrade to on this machine ? Im so happy with my machine i want to throw a faster processor on it.

I have read that you can add upgrade to a T7800 (2.60GHz 4MB Cache 800MHz) or a T9500 (2.60GHz 6MB Cache 800MHz).

Another upgrade would be RAM. I now have 4MB, but this machine takes 8MB, but that upgrade is rather expensive.

Any Thoughts ??

Re: 2.0GHz CPU reported at 1.81GHz, that could be a side effect of IDA. Check your BIOS settings and if it's enabled, disable it. Which CPU do you currently have, T7250 or T7300?

You can upgrade your CPU to any C2D T7xxx, T8xxx or T9xxx at FSB 800MHz. The Extreme C2D CPUs should be supported too: X9000 or X78xx. I found these laptops work really really well with 4Mb cache CPUs (for instance, I found a D830 with a T7250 occasionally choppy under ML 10.8.2, whereas my D630 with a T7500 is a lot smoother).

Unless you're a RAM-hungry application user, I doubt that 8Mb RAM would make any difference. But DDR2-800 does make a difference on DDR-667. I'd stick to 4GB.

Disabling the IDA (intel Dynamic Acceleration) Made a difference. about this mac reports 2GHz now, and i do find the machine to be a little faster.

I decided to upgrade to T9500 (2.60MHz 6MB Cache) due to the fact that the Xtreme Processors (X9000 and X7800) Tend to run  much hotter and the Heat sink on this laptops might not be adecuate.

Once i install the new processor i will report back to the forum..

Thanks.

I have uninstalled everything from Mauriuz's original post and reconfigured with the edptool.command. I see these entries in the console.app. These are all the EDP kexts that could not be linked. Is that normal?

Yes, all those kexts with version #1111 are myHack enabled (typically, all those in /E/E) and supersede OS X original kexts. That's how kexts can be added to /E/E only, leaving Apple's original files untouched.

I finally got my Dell DW 1510 (BCM4322) wireless card and the metal adapter and when installed it and reboot the machine all i got was a white screen.

What a bummer !!

All i can think is that the screws on the little adapter were too long and touch something under.

I plugged in an external VGA monitor to the back of the Laptop and it works. I got video again, However i have a doubt..

I think that the LCD or the LCD controller in the back of the LCD went bad, but is it possible that the video card itself went bad to the display of the LCD but still good for the external monitor ?

Reason i ask is cause im ready to purchase LCD screen or the controller if that's the issue instead of the video card (motherboard).

Any suggestions ?

second:

Now that i have added the Wireless card, now i lost the webpage where they had the KEXT for it.

does any of you guys have it ?

Is the procedure to just copy the KEXT to the /Extra/Extensions folder and run MYFIX (full) from the MYHACK ?

Thanks a lot for your help

did you use any files from here?

http://osx86.co/f87/dell-d620-630-830-kext-pack-t3840/

my video playback is sluggish and i used the 3100FB.kext from the bootpack and/or maybe EDP, so just would like to fix netflix playback from being sluggish and possibly other video playback.

also whenever i try to restart, everything turns off except the fans and power, shutdown seems to work fine.

What X3100 FrameBuffer kext would that be? No such thing in the bootpack or EDP... Follow the standard EDP documented procedure using the bootpack and you should be Ok. There is no X3100 kext to install on the D630. If you do, then your problem is probably coming from that.

I think this post may require to be locked and moved to Archive. The early procedure provided by Mariusz is now obsolete.

after installing edp and using the files from it, i began having problems.

the files from this post corrected them.

maybe i am using the *3100FB.kext from 10.7 itself.. though this post lists one for use, could be my video problem right there.

i am having issues with chameleon booting from my harddrive, either it does not load after i set the drive active with

fdisk -e /dev/disk0

or it loads 3 lines and halts or nothing at all, so i have to boot from myHack pen.

either way, having restart issues, so going to reinstall without using edp and see what happens, also you were right herve having a fully functional hackintosh is so much better.
