  1. If your top menu bar is translucid, you have graphics acceleration as expected. Try a green/purple desktop background to verify this, it'll be more visible than with a blue or grey background. The DSDT installed after EDP has been run does indeed change reported graphics card to 8400GS. If you re-instate the DSDT from the boot pack, you'll get NVS 135m reported back. It's one of those little things we have to fix in EDP, but it's trivial as only cosmetic.

Now, ML does run a bit slower than Lion and quite slower than Snow Leopard on these machines. That's just how it goes, ML is much more demanding on resources. I'd say the minimum should be a T7500 with best performance with a T8xxx or T9300/T9500.

    DDR2-800 also helps.

The Dock in SL was not transparent but acting like a mirror showing reflection of icons and windows/desktop background above it. That effect has been modified under ML, where it'll reflects icons a tad dimmer and windows above it only create a vague hint of a shadow. That's just OS X evolution...

  2. Tjmax of both T7100 and T5600 is 100°C. You should therefore check the contents of the plist file of your /Extra/IntelCPUmonitor kext as the default Tjmax value is 0. You'll get incorrect (lower than real) T° readings with an incorrect Tjmax value in the kext.

I have nothing specific to performance in terms of kexts in my /E/E folder, it's just the EDP-installed kexts, including TSCsync. So, if you have a myHack/EDP installation, you have the same as I do. I just have better T7500 CPUs (bigger cache, higher freq.).

  3. No experience with the D820, but your D630 should not feel sluggish. Is SpeedStep working Ok? what CPU in those laptops?

Regarding T° readings, they look terrific but suspiciously low for a D630 with nVidia GPU. Did you set your Tjmax to the correct values in the plist file of /Extra/IntelCPUmonitor kext? For a T7500, Tjmax is 100°C and other CPUs may have a different value -> refer to ark.intel for the correct values.

My D630 nVidia never reports CPU T° lower than low-50s and GPU T° lower than high-70s...  And all that despite a thorough cleaning, renewal of thermal paste + copper shim on the GPU.

  4. 'just had a look at the specs: mini-tower, desktop, small form factor (SFF) and ultra small form factor (USFF). All based on the same underlying specs:

    • Pentium 4/Pentium D/Celeron or Core (Solo? Duo? 2 Duo?) CPU
    • Intel Q965 Express chipset (which I understand supports C2D CPUs)
    • DDR2-533/667 only for USFF model (vs. 533/667/800 for the others)
    • Intel GMA3000 integrated graphics (with no apparent discrete card capability for the USFF model), which I understand to be different from HD 3000
    • integrated LAN card of unspecified origin (would need PCI vendor id + device id to fully identify)
    • ADI 1983 HDA audio
    • SATA 1.5 & 2.0 controller (believed to be ICH8)

So the real items to look for are GMA3000 graphics support (may work with GMA950 kexts as GMA3000 is built on GMA900 & 950) + ADI 1983 audio support (I understand this to work with patched AppleHDA or maybe VoodooHDA). LAN support can be secondary or non-issue if add-on wireless card is used. The rest should be a no brainer.

  5. It's the IOATAFamily kext, which clearly needs to be added to the bootpack. I put a fresh copy of it here:

    https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2103-sata-not-visible-during-install/

It simply needs to be added to /Extra/Extensions folder of the myHack installer, followed by myFix, prior to OS X installation. One of the key items is the graphics support, depending on what you use: integrated hardware (is it HD3000?) or discrete add-on card.

  6. That set of kexts looks Ok.

The only thing I can think of is that you're using Lion 10.7.5 directly, not a previous release like 10.7 or 10.7.2. I have no personal experience on installing 10.7.5 directly on a D830, just with 10.7.2 which I then updated to 10.7.5 (this worked Ok). However, I have seen several people experiencing difficulties installing Lion versions greater than 10.7.3. Or maybe it's not a full retail version. I did not even know Apple offered Lion 10.7.5 as a downloadable version; well I certainly haven't seen Lion available for download for quite some time...

I'd advise you to try installing a different version of Lion, but I guess you probably don't have that.

Let me check which kexts is used for SATA controller and we can check if it's there or loads on your system.

  7. I'm on my D620 nVidia NV110m right now, a system extremely similar to the D820 and I'm running Cham v2.2 r2170, so these recent versions are Ok with nVidia card. In the boot plist, you should have GraphicsEnabler activated and, possibly, some long chain in Device Properties at the bottom.

Assuming things look Ok at the moment, take a backup of your /Extra folder somewhere before running EDP. You would then be able to restore current Chameleon boot plist, SMBIOS plist or DSDT, in case something went wrong...

You could also try to simply update Chameleon through dropbox to rule in/out Cham version.

  8. Mmm, could be a Chameleon version issue, it may not support the NVS110m. Can you try and re-install an older Chameleon, say v2.1 v1791 (that used to be provided by EDP)? Check for FileNVRAM in /Extra/modules and move if present before rebooting.

I'll check the latest Cham version on my D620 nVidia (NVS110m) tonight and report back, but I think I already upgraded to Cham v2169 or thereabout...

  9. Some custom BIOSes caused problems. I don't know about the D520, I don't own one; so, as explained in the thread, try it/use it at your own risk... Just be prepared. Anyway, this is not the place to discuss BIOS updates or Windows. This is a thread about Lion on D520.

  10. With BootCD/ModCD, there really is no need for a bastardised installation... It's totally straightforward, indeed incomplete in terms of installation, but sufficent to install myHack and create the targeted USB Vanilla installer.

    For SL, you can either:

    1) install SL 10.6.3, install EDP & run kext installation, install 10.6.8 combo update and re-run EDP kext installation before reboot

    or

    2) install SL 10.6.3, install 10.6.8 combo update, install EDP & run kext installation

For ML, it's pretty much the same, but there's no need to re-run EDP kext installation after update to 10.8.2 if you've installed the kexts already.

  11. Hi and Bienvenue!

It's no secret that SL was/is an excellent version of OS X in terms of performance. Apple certainly did optimize their code on that one. SL really flies on the Latitude D Series, especially when compared to Lion or ML.

Re: Xcode installation, unfortunately, your error message is pretty vague: "unknown errors"... Did you check the logs, just in case?

Create a post in the support section if you need more help.

  12. Mmm, well, not all custom BIOS were successful, so careful... If you don't have an operational Win install, create a recovery USB key with a basic DOS bootable installation like Unetbootin. Then simply copy the downloadable exec from Dell on it and run it. That'll update your BIOS.

If I were you I'd stick to standard/regular BIOS A08 and use regular DSDT file.

Re: .hdr extraction, a little home work will suffice. I'd even expect you to find the magic trick in less than a minute... ;)
