Ah ok Jake Lo. I've actually switched back to the voodoo. Even though the brightness keys don't work everything else works better. Including the command, option, esc used for force quit. So I'm just going to stick to this one.

Well unfortunately the Elan/Synaptics kext still has some flaws in it. Can't command option escape to bring up the force Quit window. I also like to tend to swap the command and option key but if you do that then the brightness keys do not work any more. Also the trackpad speed settings are never saved. The mouse is still jumpy but that might be more the poorly constructed dell touchpad, which is actually just one piece that clicks. I've always found it difficult to use. Hopefully in version 4.6.6 they can make some more adjustments.

Bronxtech thank you Everything works as normal including brightness keys. Also the mouse would sometimes jump around and now it doesn't. The gestures even work, absolutely amazing. Only issue I've had is that whenever I go to macworld.com something causes the computer to freeze but I haven't noticed it on any other site yet. So I'm just not going to visit that site any longer. The UK version works perfectly. Thanks again everyone for your help, I've learned a lot from the team

Ok I will give that a shot tomorrow. Thanks Bronxtech. I've downloaded 4.6.5 Are there new kexts to remove before installing this? As I cannot find any other kexts listed in the instructions.

Ok Jake Lo, so I can confirm it is Synaptics and not Alps. But as long as you select ISO Europe as the Keyboard it works pretty well. I even found a VodooPS2 from Rehabmans repository and that I thought worked well but then after a bit it freezes up. Tried it more then once. For now it seems Release 4 RC4 works best on both the 3542 and the E6420.

My internal has Euro Keyboard selected and I can make the tilde with ~ shift and tilde key so it works. Like you said the keyboards seem reversed for some. As for what type of keyboard I will need to look into that tomorrow morning as I cannot remember which one of the two I have Alps or Synaptics, but I believe Synaptics. I actually have Windows still on this internal. Im dual booting so I suppose going into to windows is the simplest way to find out. I'll definitely log in in the morning. Thanks Jake Lo.

It is quite strange Jake Lo. If I switch my bios to function instead of multimedia then it works. However its stuck in what ever Keyboard I had set as default before installing Karabiner. I believe I had it to US but with the version of VoodooPS2 it should be Euro because its reversed. Seems to reverse even Karabiner too. Can only type the tilde character if I go into Karabiner and select keyboard type instead of default. Other wise the keys were all working perfecting. Just took a bios switch. I tried to uninstall Karabiner Elements and I also delete the .karabiner folder but it keeps returning after reboot. Also every time I try to run the Keyboard Assistant in settings it says keyboard not detected. So it doesn't allow me to change mode. Like its stuck. So on my internal i think Im going to leave it as is without installing Karabiner. The volume keys work perfectly and if i want to change brightness I will go to system settings and use the slider. Thanks again for all the help.

Oh Ok, I'll check thst out for sure then. Just finished internal installation and updated, all is great well I havent installed Karabiner Elements on the internal drive yet. I might not actually. I'm ok with the way it works default. But I may experiment some more with the external drive and see if maybe I can perfect it. Right now close to perfect though 99.5% Thanks Jake Lo.

AH ok Yeah I had just figured it out was coming to delete before you posted a reply but you just beat me to it. Thanks Jake LO Only having one issue. Wrong Keyboard type is selected. I'm either on the Japanese or the European and not North America because I cannot type the "tilde" character even with Shift Key and I actually use it in Photoshop. But I think I know why. I believe you have to have the proper keyboard type selected first before you install Karabiner and the .json file for the first time. Else later it doesn't allow you to because it detects your keyboard as an Apple one and doesn't allow you to make changes. Good thing is that I'm as always first testing on external. So I'll remember that for when I do it on my internal drive. I tried uninstalling the Karabiner App and the rebuilding cache and permissions restarted but the default Karabiner set up still remains. Another thing is my keyboard was set up to not use the function key for those devices in Yosemite. Is there are way to set it up the .json so that the default doesn't use to the FN key to activate. Just curious because it might actually be better with the FN key. Please let me know when you get a chance. Thanks again Jake Lo for all your help. Just going to do a quick backup of my internal Yosemite drive and then start the install of sierra for real.

Ok thanks Jake Lo, Hmmm ok I have no problems with the installing the app but how to I install the .json file? I'm a little foggy on that. I'm going to see if I can find some info on that.

Hi Jake Lo. So I rewatched my SSDT-5.aml and when adding the BOD3 patch I remembered something from Yosemite. The layout id is 3 not 12 Changed it and viola HDMI works. Also re patching the brand new SSDT-5 allowed the DropOem True to boot up. Using Clover 3853 I believe. It is todays or yesterdays release. Really happy. IntelBacklight or ACPIBacklight both bring the Slider for Brightness. Chose the Intel because its newer and supposedly quicker. So all is working and I'm quite pleased Thanks for all your help F11 and F12 I will definitely need to remap with Karabiner Elements because they both only raise brightness now and f12 seems to have a vol up attached to it as well. I see both the vol and the brightness for a split second when I push it. I'll work on that tomorrow though. Thanks again Jake Lo.

Ah ok, I actually had IntelBacklight installed in S/L/E I'll try there. As for DropOEM SSDT ( I only see DropOEM) but when I do that the system hangs. It doesn't boot. No when I plug it in it only shows Internal speakers. On my E6420 it shows the TV. I'm sure it has something to do with the dropOeM SSDT. You're right I may need to repatch. I'm ok with the function keys, more concerned about just being able to get the slider. But if I do you've already explained to me how to use Karabiner Elements so thats great Ok Thanks again. Going to go mess around with it again. p.s Do I need the latest IntelBacklight.kext if so what bootback would be best to download?

Ok Jake Lo tried them out, unfortunately no luck with audio. Video always works but Audio can't get it. But now I'm wondering if it could be the TV? Going to check on another HDTV and see what happens. As for Brightness Slider, none at all. What about if I copy the DisplayPane from El Capitan? Maybe that would at least bring up the slider? Another thing maybe its the VoodooPS2Controller I'm using. Currently using Release 4 RC4 Not sure if this is the best one for this dell, works fantastic for the E6420 though. Well actually it works well here too, just brightness is missing and it gives me down volume when i push f12, where as before f11 f12 were brightness up and down. My volume keys though work perfectly as before after the update to Sierra 10.12.1 yesterday. Thank you very much though because everything else is running smoother including bootup

I've realized that there is an error somewhere on my config or patched files because I'm using the latest config from rehabman for the has well HD 4400 and by default it has Drop OEM set to false but that should be true if I'm not mistaken, but if i set it to true I get Apple bar loads 2/3rds the way and then the computer just reboots. Also noticed [newway] is also set to false by default but on my Yosemite config.plist that is also set to true. You will clearly see that in the attached as I've included the config.plist with default settings in place for those two values. I'm still experimenting however and trying to learn about how everything works again. I tried to patch the BOD3 to HDAU patch to my DSDT but I keep getting errors.

Ok thanks Jake Lo. I'll attach my ACPI Folder and Config for you to see, much appreciated. To note I have taken the update to 10.12.1 but I have no brightness controls at all. My brightness keys were patched differently then in your DSDT that you gave to Nareto. Rehabman had helped me with it last year and they were flawless in Yosemite. Some people reported that the brightness would go down all the way but rehabman fixed that issue for me. On sierra though, no brightness keys work nor does brightness control show up under display in the System Settings. Oh yes it is the Haswell 4400.

Internal sound is on Thanks. Now if I can just figure out how to patch for HDMI. Or do I just need to find the right AppleHDAIDT.kext? I pretty much got everything except rightness keys but maybe after the update they will. They were working on Yosemite.

Ok thanks Jake Lo. On Yosemite I was just using the patched AppleHDA.kext but I could never figure out how to patch my audio for HDMI. Hopefully after I get the main sound, you can help me with the HDMI sound patches for the DSDT on my Dell 3542 Inspiron. Thanks again. Ill let you know how it goes.

Hi guys just wondering if anyone has an AppleHDA.kext for the Realtek 255 that has already been patched for Sierra? Haven't been able to find it. Just installed and everything is pretty good but obviously with the switch to Sierra the old AppleHDA no longer works. Does anyone have an already patched one by any chance?

Ok guys I finally found the problem. It was with the SSDT.aml I re-created using the script and bingo. It works now. Obviously something was wrong with it. All up and running now Thanks again. On to the next project my Dell 3542.

pci 1217 8231 is what it shows me in the IODeviceTree under RP06 Should I try to use those numbers in the patch? Thanks Herve and Jake Lo. I'm learning a lot today.
