1. @clmac I have a D630 running SL connected to a 1920x1080 monitor through the VGA on port replicator dock and I do not have any such problems. I keep the lid closed and just see one display whcih is the external monitor. My laptop display is turned off.
 2. @Red Five Interesting to note that you are able to use dual external monitors with Optiplex. I wish that it was possible to do the same with D630 and a dock.
 3. I have a kind of good news to share. After I uninstalled the flash player, number of UI freezes on my d630 with SL went down substantially. It used to be maybe thrice a day but now it is like twice a week. I also have done less video editing recently. I downloaded the uninstalled from Adobe's website to uninstall flash. However, there is still a built-in flash plugin in Chrome. I haven't disabled that so far. I haven't experimented with DSDT injections and GPU kexts seem to be relatively stable for now.
 4. Made the changes suggested by Herve and it fixed the wake from from sleep problem. Not only that, it goes to sleep and wakes up in less than two seconds! Here are the commands that I used. $ sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 # change the hibernate mode to 0 $ sudo rm -rf /var/vm/sleepimage # delete the sleep image if any
 5. I get a "Not enough space to restore image" error message from Chameleon when I wake up from sleep and it does not restore previous windows. I did a default build using edptool.command svn revision 428.Any ideas?
 6. I have a Dell PRO1 port replicator, a 90W power adapter PA-10 and a Dell D630 with Intel GMA X3100, not Nvidia 135. I would love to get the DVI working in addition to the VGA, so that I can have dual displays, preferably with Leopard or a Snow Leopard. Can you please share the instructions? mast mi ?
 7. I am using 10.6.8 on D630 intel 1440x900 with a dell port replicator and an external monitor. Everything works fine except at random times the UI freezes completely. I had the same problem in Lion as well, on the same machine. I followed the EDP bootpack process to install 10.6.8. There is nothing in the logs but I have observed that this problem happens under certain conditions that I am listing below. Please feel free to add your observations and hopefully someone can pick a pattern and fix it. - It started happening after I installed Quicktime version 10.0. Recording a screencast in Quicktime is one of the surest way of triggering a UI freeze. - Editing large movies in iMovie'11 version 9.0 build 1073 can also trigger a freeze but not as often a recording in Quicktime does. - Viewing a content heavy page in Safari can sometimes trigger a freeze. Common culprit in all of the above is Quicktime so that might be it but I am not sure. If it is working well for you then please let me know what version of Quicktime of iMovie you are using. Thanks
 8. Does the DVI port work for anyone running Snow Leopard or Lion on Dell D630 laptop in a dock? I can use the VGA port just fine but I cannot use the DVI port for another monitor. I have tried both - 10.6.8 as well as 10.7.5. Is there a fix for this?
 9. I have the exact problem on my D630 with intel 1440x900. Tried both SL and Lion but it freezes. My leopard on Dell m140 is running fine.
 10. I have uninstalled everything from Mauriuz's original post and reconfigured with the edptool.command. I see these entries in the console.app. These are all the EDP kexts that could not be linked. 11. Created a Lion 10.7.2 bootable USB drive using MyHack. Downloaded the EDP bootpack for my system. I then added Mauriusz's kexts from SLE to the bootpack and applied it to / using MyHack. I did install VoodooHDA-2.7.2.pkg and KeyRemap4MacBook-7.8.0.dmg but I have uninstalled those. I then downloaded the combo update for 10.7.5. Installed it but re-executed MyHack before restarting the computer. To overcome the freeze issues, I re-configured using edptool.command more than once.
 12. Here's the Apple support URL that I used for downloading and installing "OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo)" http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582 Towards the end of the install, just before it wants to restart, I ran MyHack and re-applied the fix. Most things work fine except for an occasional freeze of the UI but that has been happening to me since day one. I have tried Mauriusz's original AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext and then reverted it back to the original. I briefly lost graphics acceleration because I had accidentally deleted AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext from S/L/E and there were no freezes for that brief duration. Looks like I am the only one experiencing this freeze. Is it because I am running D630 in a dock with a 1900x1080 external monitor connected to the VGA port as the only display?
 13. Congrats! I have disabled automatic updates. I downloaded 10.7.5 combo installer from Apple's website and installed that without a problem but I suggest that you take a time machine backup first, just in case.
 14. I do not remember if AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext was included in the original install of Lion. If it was then I am afraid that I might have deleted it. In any case I will uninstall the current AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext and see what happens. Maybe that is the root cause of the freezing issue.
 15. I was still having random freezes where everything would lock up so I physically removed the original wireless card and also uninstalled IOATAFamily.kext. I also re-downloaded AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext from SLE.zip uploaded by Mariusz in his original post. I also installed smbios.plist and org.chameleon.Boot.plist from the same post. It does not freeze anymore but my video and graphics are now very choppy. It takes almost ten seconds to open and close the Launchpad. The menu bar at the top is no longer transparent. After seeing a fast response, this sluggishness is unbearable. Can someone please upload the AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext for 1440x900 which is fast and does not freeze the UI?
 16. I have mine plugged into ethernet but I found an internal wifi card at Amazon for $10 that might work with Lion on D630. New Dell DW1397 Broadcom 4312 Wireless Card WLAN WIFi Wireless Card 802.11a/b/g 54 Mbps BCM94312HMG Link
 17. 1. Use the menu at the top of this forum to download the bootpack for your machine. Click on EDP > Bootpacks. Pick the one that you want and extract it and. Rename this folder to ExtraCombined or anything you want and copy it to the USB drive created by MyHack. 2. Run MyHack in another Mac machine / VM running Snow Leopard or greater and install this ExtraCombined folder to the USB stick that you created with MyHack. Steps - a) Run MyHack Choose Install Extra fro the drop down and point to ExtraCombined folder that has bootpack you downloaded. 3. Now boot with the USB stick. This is the procedure that i followed. I did not use automated EDP because everyone's setup is slightly different and I had to install a couple of extra kexts uploaded by Maurisz in his first post.
 18.
After uninstalling Mountain Lion and re- installing Lion as suggested by Herve, I am happy to report that everything works great. I have now have a D630 Latitude GMAx3100 1440x900 with Lion. Here's how it went.

1. Created a Lion 10.7.2 bootable USB drive using MyHack.

2. Downloaded the EDP bootpack for my system, copied Mauriusz's kexts from SLE to the bootpack in the folder called "ExtraCombined" and applied it to the USB drive using:

a) MyHack > Create Extra > Use my own Extras > pointed to the "ExtraCombined" folder

MyHack > Run Fix > Full Fix on the USB drive

3. Disabled intel Wifi in the BIOS A18 of my D630 Latitude. You need to go through all the wireless settings and completely disable the little switch on the left of the laptop as well. I have set it to BT mode until I can find a broadcom wireless card.

4. Booted from the USB. Latitude's trackpad and keyboard worked just fine.

5. Installed and configured Lion and reboot

6. Installed "ExtraCombined" again to the Latitude using MyHack and reboot

7. Installed VoodooHDA-2.7.2.pkg to get the audio and KeyRemap4MacBook-7.8.0.dmg to fix the tilde key (not required if you are using an external keyboard)

8. Copied the Mail folder from my previous Mountain Lion's time machine backup to ~/Library/Preferences. I have over 90,000 messages that were automatically imported in less than 15 minutes. I just had to re-enter the account passwords when prompted.

9. Put the laptop in the dock under the desk, connected an external monitor through VGA and it was automatically recognized. I am enjoying the 1920x1080 with beautiful graphics. It is very important that you do not select Mirror if you are using multiple displays. Learnt this the hard way (again wish I had read Herve's above post). I had to use MirrorTool (free) to undo the settings and recover the display. It really goes bonkers and there's not much that you can do. DO NOT SELECT THE MIRROR OPTION EVER!!! Ok, you have been warned.

Now that Latitude is under my desk, over an Antec chill pad, neither noise nor overheating is a problem and I have a clean desk with a seriously large display. Dual display might be an overkill and I do not think D630 x3100 is a powerful enough to drive it. 1920x1080 makes it slightly sluggish and I can feel that while browsing but I am still happy. Latitude is a hundred times better now than when it was running Windows. Windows 7 had slowed it to such an extent that it was unusable and it sat like a paperweight until I put OSX on it.

Thanks to this wonderful community and also to Apple.

UPDATE 1:

My OSX 10.7.2 on D630 freezes many times a day. It's not a kernel panic which happens about twice a week due to AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext but the two problems might be related. During the freeze I cannot do anything with the mouse or keyboard. I have to hold the power button down and recycle. There's nothing to in the logs that looks suspicious. I am not using Google Chrome which is known to cause this problem. I have also disabled Google updates and have run the full fix using MyHack. What else can I do? Downgrade to Snow Leopard?

UPDATE 2:

I remember setting my A18 bios to ACHI but looks like it switched to ATA when I booted into windows. I switched it back to ACHI, repaired the permissions using Disk Utility and ran a full MyHack fix. That was about six hours back and I haven't had a freeze, yet. If I do, then I will probably uninstall the IOATAFamily.kext first.

I am also trying to clone the boot disk using carbon copy but haven't been successful so far. Once I have a bootable clone, I will install 10.7.5 combo update released by Apple.

UPDATE 3:

I am happy to report that there was no freeze since yesterday, after I switched to ACHI. I was not able to create a bootable clone using carbon copy. Nonetheless I went ahead and installed the 10.7.5 combo update and had a kernel panic when I tried to boot up. It was due to VoodooHDA.kext. I was able to login after removing VoodooHD for audio. I then went ahead, downloaded the latest EDP and let it configure. I lost the ethernet connectivity after EDP was done but I was able to restore it by copying IO80211Family.kext to the /Extra/Extensions and running MyHack thereafter. Looks good so far. EDP is wonderful. It restored my built-in audio which sounds excellent, installed a battery indicator and some kind of CPU speed controller. Good work guys!

 19. Has anyone got the Dual external monitors 1680x1050 in extended configuration, connected through the dock to work with Lion on D630 GMX3100? If yes, could you please share the steps?
 20. Had I read Herve's posts earlier, I wouldn't have installed Mountain Lion on D630 with intel graphics. I am now going to install Lion on it and will provide an update on how that goes. What's the best set of instructions to get Lion installed on my setup?
 21. Will I get graphics acceleration on my D630 with Intel GMAX3100 if I downgraded it from ML to Lion?
 22. Against all odds, I am running Mountain Lion on a D630 with integrated intel graphics - GMAX3100. Videos and browsing is slow as expected. I can live with that but what's really troubling me are these three things. 1. Unable to sleep and wake up from sleep 2. Fan makes too much noise. It runs all the time and hardly ever stops. 3. Unable to hook up an external monitor either directly or through a dock. I mean the external monitor works but at 1280 resolution instead of 1440x900 that I get if I am working on the laptop directly. Ideally i would like to connect two external monitors in an extended configuration through a dock. Is it possible to overcome above difficulties by installing some extras or by adding the Nvidia graphics card from an old D630 which I will source from craigslist? Here's my story. I am using the default kexts and extras provided by seb43654 in his first post. I did install KeyRemap4macbook to fix the tilde (~`) button and to get ctrl-c to work in the terminal app but everything else worked exactly as he described, out of the box. I was able to get the sound by using Jabra USB headset. Just plugged it in and Mac automatically recognized it as an audio device, simple. As others have mentioned, Intel wireless wouldn't work. I re-purposed an old linksys router. Flashed dd-wrt on it and used it as a Repeater Bridge to connect to my primary router which has internet. D630 and a few other computers plug straight into the Repeater Bridge through an ethernet cable. Mac would not boot up after running the latest EDP 3. So I had to uninstall it and use MyHack to re-install the original /Extras provided by seb43654. It would really love to run the latest EDP on this machine.
