so it boots from usb but not internal drive. then the problem might be it does not see your internal volume. what type of drive is it?

as for the firmware update using cd roms. usualy you use an app that can boot from an iso or converts an iso to a usb bootable device. and boot of of that.

When you press F12, do you see a boot option call OpenCore?

@Bronxteckyes, it boots from the installer USB I made, with the same EFI. The drive is a Sandisk X400 256 GB SSD.

Did you select Opencore from under UEFI boot?

When OC picker shows up, select Reset NVRam. It'll reboot back to OpenCore picker

Here, you select MacHD to continue booting

Or try booting from USB installer and run First Aid from disk utility

No problems found with First Aid, problems remain.

You don't need Windows to upgrade the BIOS. Chuck the EXE into a FAT32 partition, select BIOS Flash Update in the F12 boot menu and point it to the file.

File vault isn’t enabled standard, is it? I didn’t manually enable it, so I guess no.
