Administrators Syonagar Posted July 20, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 20, 2012 Dear hydo, OS X does run the cpu hot in laptops. I think 50s is normal. Mine normally run around 60s. Cheers!
Administrators Hervé Posted July 20, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 20, 2012 The best is to obtain the CPU T Junction value off the Intel web site (values differ between CPU families) and the edit the Tjmax value in /E/E/IntelCPUMonitor.kext. Eg: http://ark.intel.com/products/29761/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T7500-(4M-Cache-2_20-GHz-800-MHz-FSB) Just did it on my T7500-based D630 (Tjmax=100) and the iStats goodies now report proper T° readings: idling in the low 40s°C and up to 70s°C on high load (similar readings in Win7). Cheers for the reply, I would assume that by /E/E/ You Mean /Extras/Extensions/. In there there is no .kext called IntelCPUMonitor.kext. Should I download a copy of it and put it in there? I have also looked on the Intel site and for my CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo T7300) and can see that the T Junction is 100.
Administrators Hervé Posted July 21, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 21, 2012 Yes, that's what I meant by /E/E, sorry. I'm on Lion 10.7.4 and I have that IntelCPUMonitor kext there. Maybe it's different on another version, but I don't know what you have. Please note that since I updated my EDP to rev 415 last night, my CPU readings have gone tits up again. The difference I notice in /E/E is that I now have a FakeSMC kext there, a kext I did not seem to have with rev 410. When I take that FakeSMC kext out of /E/E, T° readings are back to normal. Administrators Hervé Posted July 21, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 21, 2012 Well, not sure, I think it's required and boot will fail if FakeSMC kext cannot be found. I'm doing more tests on that point...
seb43654
Succes!! After editing the TjMax value to 100 for my Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, it reports temps correctly. I attached the kext if you want to use it. Thanks, Seb IntelCPUMonitor.kext.zip
Administrators Hervé Posted August 4, 2012 Administrators Share Posted August 4, 2012 Magic, hey? Please note that if you ever re-run EDP again to re-install kexts, you'll need to modify your CPUMonitor kext again as it'll be overwritten and you'd be back with TjMax at 0.
