Brago
Hi there, First - Thanks for all good advice's, tools, how to's and guides! I'm trying to install osx on my e6220. Not very used to these things so no when I do not get things to work I guess I have missed something in the instructions, and do not know where to start.. what thing is it that don't work then: Ethernet... I've tried install Mountain Lion, used the extras listed on the chart. Installed, worked OK, restarting first time and goes through the set up: - choosing language OK - Keyboard OK - user account OK - network set up - NOK I use an airport extreme set to DHCP so I've tried set network to DHCP, and DHCP with manual IP-adress. Don't work. I get thrown back to the screen where I chose language/keyboard. I instead try to set "no network" and can then finalize installation. But then obviously I can not get the network to function.,, Any ideas? How can I enable network when boot is finalized and I'm in OSX? Greatful for any advices! Thanks Brago
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 26, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 26, 2013 Hi Brago, Looks like the boot pack is missing the ethernet driver. Download and place in Extra/Extension and run myHack/myfix and then reboot. JL AppleIntelE1000e.kext.zip
Brago
Thanks Jake, I will give that a try! In the meanwhile I gave it a shoot with 10.7.2 and got that working after having run the EDP, Internet connection courtesy my iPhone via Bluetooth. So now I have 10.7.5 after upgrade and working Ethernet. Wifi - I read built in wifi is not supported, and that I have to change that to make it work. But then I read e.g. Steven above saying he got wifi working. Is there a way of getting built in wifi to work and if not, can I get some advice/examples of what module to buy? Thanks Brago
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 26, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 26, 2013 You could check for compatible hardwares https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/forum/127-hardwarenotebook-compatibility-query/https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/forum/127-hardwarenotebook-compatibility-query/ Intel wifi is not support in OSX. You'll need to replace it if that's what you have. Some Dell systems come with dell wireless card DWxxxx and that's what I assume Steven has. Personally I use DW1510 and rebranded to Airport Extreme following guide here, others prefer Atheros wireless devices. The kext I'd attached above is for Mountain Lion, I was assuming that's what you're installing, not sure if it'll work on Lion as well.
Brago
Well, It says I have a DW1501. Which turns up as BCM4313. And so far no news on how to get it working. Thanks for the links Jake, I know much more about what cards that are supposed to work and that I can get if I really want it to work. //Brago
Moderators Jake Lo Posted March 26, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 26, 2013 As for as I know, that chipset is not supported.
Brago
All, Sorry if I'm bombarding you with questions, small and large. If I should rather post these elsewhere - please advice! Next question is display output - in the compatibility chart it looks like VGA output is supported by the e6220. But I can not get that to work either. got 10.7.5 right now on the machine and as described above the best I can get is a very mixed up desktop on my external display by pressing Fn - F8 on the keyboard. Any advice? If I get the display output - either through HDMI or VGA I think it is time for me to order a new wificard + SSD and remake my e6220 to a osx only device. //Brago
