My gut instinct with this is that you may have a corrupt installation usb, or something else corrupting - does the 'report crash' section appear in the same place each time? Have you tested the hardware (check filesystems with disk utility, test memory with memtest86+, run a torture test with prime95/mprime to ensure the cpu is stable etc). If your system passes all of those tests I would test the USB, or even suspect the source data - did you get your copy of OS X legitimately from the app store? I'd likely attempt to recreate the USB, or try another one, or internal disk partition. If all that failed I would try various USB ports, if that failed, I would start to suspect the source data. I have the same motherboard as you and I had no such problem, though I did have a problem with a bad USB stick on my first attempt, the second USB stick worked flawlessly.

Chameleon is installed to the boot sector, partition header, and filesystem of the disk/partition you target to install OS X on. I could make it optional if anyone else feels this would be a good option to have.

Solved! Still not able to get my system past 10.6.7 update

Where it is hanging is not the realtekR1000, it is hanging at graphics init. Have you tried to force VESA mode by removing the ATI* / Radeon* kexts? From the myHack Guide: This would be the other option, but given the fact you just want to get 10.6.8 running quickly to grab ML from the app store and then reinstall with ML I don't see any reason to go through the trouble of finding that update and then extracting the graphics extensions from it - force VESA mode, get appstore working, prepare your 10.8 myHack OS X Install Disk and install. -
I don't use RAID on boot volumes, I use a single SSD for my OS partition and I use software RAID1 for my data storage. This is what I suggest to basically everyone. Hardware RAID is only good on enterprise level builds with very expensive controller cards. It has some disadvantages when used on a consumer level and no advantages, which is why I prefer to use software RAID.
