Hello, So if you're reading this, you're probably having an issue on getting Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 or 10.7.5 to boot, usually with it hanging on something related to ACPI... This is due to the AppleACPIPlatform.kext, so what we will be doing today is removing the offending kext and replacing it... Assuming you cannot boot into Mac OS X, here is what you need to do: METHOD #1: 1. Boot into another OS X machine, and put this kext on the USB stick you had used to install Lion, assuming the install files are still present: AppleACPIPlatform.kext 2. Boot using that OS X Install USB 3. Select your language and click on Utilities and then Terminal 4. If you are not one with terminal, that's okay. Now what we need to do is delete the offending kext first, to o that, type the following in terminal: mount -uw / #Press enter rm -Rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext cp -R <path to good kext>/AppleACPIPlatform.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext 5. Now close out of terminal and reboot. On the Chameleon bootloader, boot using these flags: -v -f UseKernelCache=no 6. In OS X, if you use EDP3, do a new build, if you use EDP 2.x, do a new build and run myFix Full mode. 7. Enjoy! METHOD #2 1. Now exit out of terminal. Go to Utilities --> myHack and run a myFix full on the drive that OS X is on. 6. Now close out of terminal and reboot. On the Chameleon bootloader, boot using these flags: -v -f UseKernelCache=no 7. In OS X, if you use EDP3, do a new build, if you use EDP 2.x, do a new build and run myFix Full mode. 8. Enjoy! Hope this worked out for everybody! If you have questions, then don't hesitate to ask! ~JawhnL5

When you create a myHack USB stick, it patches OSInstall.mpkg to allow installation of Mac OS X on a drive formatted using the Master Boot Record, so what you do is go into Windows intaller, make two partions: One for Windows and one for OS X. Install WIndows and then boot into OS X usb stick made in myHack and install Mac OS X on the second partition.

Audio without voodooHDA on Latitude D Series (AppleHDA STAC9205)
JawhnL5 replied to pud469's topic in Kernel Extensions
Great news! For D630 and D830 users who use EDP and like this audio kext... It will be integrated into the next version of EDP! -
At this time, we recommend you don't flash your bios with the custom bios updates. There are some bugs that need to be worked out and it hasn't been updated in a while.
-
Yes, do what Bronxteck said. When updating to 10.7.4, don't update using Software Update. Download the combo update and run it, then run EDP 3.
-
Please refrain from using EDP 2... Use EDP 3 and then make a build of your model.
-
Have you tried booting -x or pmVersion=0? Also try running a myFix Full mode on the USB stick if those fail.
-
In Chameleon Wizard there should be an option in org.Chameleon.boot.plist to change it to graphical boot menu
-
Bootpack added in the Bootpack Generator. Download the one for D630 Intel X3100 1440x900 and try that. If it doesn't work, make a new myHack installer and use that Extra.
-
It may be due to the bootpack, I think Leon is working on one.

Here is the high resolution DSDT. This is for the Dell Latitude D630 with the Intel graphics and 1440x900 screen resolution. Replace the DSDT.aml in your Extra folder on your boot USB with the DSDT.aml in this zip file. Cheers! 1440x900_dsdt.aml.zip

OK, go to Dell's website and get the BIOS revision for our D630, put it on a USB stick with UNetbootin and flash your BIOS back to Dell's official BIOS and try again. The problem is when you flashed your BIOS with OS X BIOS you used the low res one so now your screen is going out of whack
-
No it may not always have to do with bootpack. Can you boot using -v and take a picture of your screen?
-
Dear awdscot, What version of Mac OS X are you using on your D630? Cheers!

Dear seb43654, Check out this thread relating to Dell Fan Control: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/204-dell-fan-control/ Cheers!

I don't really think there are perks to rebranding your Wi-Fi, except for it to show as Airport Extreme and not 3rd party Airport http://www.osxlatitude.com/rebranding-broadcom-802-11abgn-cards-as-airport-extreme/
-
You also might wanna edit the D620 field since the D620 can have a maximum res. of 1440x900

I would recommend applying a new thermal compound to your heatsink, like Arctic Silver 3. Computer manufacturers in most cases use a cheap thermal compound so if you are able to, get a higher quality thermal compound. This will make the machine run a little cooler.

The chip will die eventually, the BIOS update will not help. They will always die eventually and cannot be avoided, unless your notebook is always in a cool environment and on a cooling pad when it is on. That will increase it's lifespan by a longer time. And for Lion there are fan kexts you can use to make the fans run faster -- that will also help it. The only performance improvements are in the CPU and the nVidia chip is newer I believe. The D620 is a very good machine and can be better depending on the CPU speeds. In the long run, it all comes down to the specs, because the D620 can be better than the D630 and the D630 can be better than the D620 depending on kexts. Mac OS X Lion runs nice on both of these. Not really much of a speed difference for either, except I have heard it's easier to get Lion running on the D620. Might not be true but it's what people have told me.

Your keyboard/mouse/trackpad functionalities will work fine if you define Option 1 for PS/2 kexts in EDP 3.1... Not sure about Voodoo kexts or the ANV-Slice kext, as I never use those...
-
Seems your Dell is very picky... There's only a few options we have left... I am assuming you have tried the ANV-Slice Trackpad kext from EDP already?
-
Here's what you can try: 1. Go on to EDP 3 and make a new build, using option 5 for PS2 driver. 2. After you're done w/ EDP, go to Extra/Extensions 3. Copy the AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext and ApplePS2Controller.kext from /Extra/Extensions. 4. Go to System/Library/Extensions and locate ApplePS2Controller.kext and AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext and delete them. 5. Now paste the two kexts you copied from /Extra/Extensions into /System/Library/Extensions 6. Go to myHack and run myFix Full mode. After that is done, reboot. If that doesn't work, let us know. I have a few more tricks we can try.
-
Option 1 if using 32bit OS and Option 5 if using 64bit OS. Cheers!
-
What you can try to do is use the ApplePS2Controller.kext in EDP 3. Once you have done a new build in EDP with the ApplePS2Controller.kext, exit out of EDP and go to /Extra/Extensions on your hard drive. Then copy the ApplePS2Controller.kext from Extra/Extensions to /System/Library/Extensions. Once you have done that, repair permissions and then reboot your machine and get back to us w/ results. Cheers!
