  1. I have a d430 and a d620 (hi res nvidia graphics) and both sleep and wake fine (the 430 occasionally has a dimmed screen after wake which means it needs a reboot). Just followed the guide from this site. What steps have you taken?
  2. I get the occasional KP on a D620 with Nvidia graphics - but nothing as regular as you. In the KP you should find a reference to a kext somewhere - worth looking at if it's always the same one. IF you run EDP and check the Fixes section. Also run myHack and select “Run myFix” then select the drive OS X is on and select “Full”.
  3. As per Bronxteck suggests. I have always picked up DW1395's off ebay for about £3 delivered After physical install of card you will probably need to do this: Download the IO80211Family.kext.zip from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=267408 Download and install/run Kext Helper. get it from here: http://cheetha.net/ Unzip the Kext file, Launch Kext Helper, Drag the Kext into window. Put your password in and apply. Once done reboot (fingers crossed) and WIFI working
  4. Hi lanyo, what settings did you pick in EDP? And less important but have you flashed the BIOS with OSXL version for your specific model?
  5. Do you have a bit more info please? Is this a KP when trying to install SL or have you had it running for a while? If your installing - at what point does the KP happen and how did you create usb stick? Have you made any adjustments to BIOS settings prior to install?
  6. I created a new more comprehensive guide - https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1408-a-beefed-up-guide/page__p__9479__fromsearch__1#entry9479 - using wiki guide as a base - http://www.osxlatitude.com/howto-install-osx/ Please feel free to comment/suggest amendments then we could get wiki updated. Cheers
  7. Old guide here. http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation/ New guide is easier though - seek out a kind person with a MAC (with SL or Lion). Cheers
  8. Your model is fine. I have no experience of docking stations with OSX on so can't answer that one. Guides on main WIKI page: http://www.osxlatitude.com/howto-install-osx/ Or my slightly expanded guide: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1408-a-beefed-up-guide/page__view__findpost__p__9479 Snow Leopard is 10.6 Lion is 10.7 Mountain Lion (not released yet) is 10.8 Lion works well on D620/630 and D430's in my experience and is the most current version. Mountain Lion has issues due to Apple not supporting the Intel GMA chipset at the moment (perhaps this will change at release but unlikely - but some modding may happen by the community to fix this). You will find answers to most situations in the wiki and forum - so please search and read up as much as possible.
  9. When running EDP for a D430 this is what I have used with success (this is from 2.2 but I suspect 3 is very similar): Answers to Question from top menu: Kext Config (1) Model selected: D4x0 (1) Mouse/Keyboard driver: VoodooPS2Controller (2) Battery driver: VoodooBattery.kext (standard) (y) Install NullCPUPowerManagement (when Yes this includes Install SleepEnabler): (y) Emulate speedstep: (y) If you only want 10.7.3 then download the 10.7.3 installer separately from Apple site http://goo.gl/u8kNY If you go for 10.7.4 then check the forum for fixes (https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1363-start-your-engines-1074-is-here/). Cheers
  10. Hi kallumama This thread is all about 10.7.4 and posts with instructions on how to fix after updating: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1363-start-your-engines-1074-is-here/ If you were to start setup of Lion all over again and only wanted to update to 10.7.3 then you can download the 10.7.3 separately: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1407-1073-combo-update-direct-download/ Cheers
  11. Thanks bronxteck. Just tried that and works a treat - wiki needs that adding
  12. Hi, this is good start on instructions. https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1408-a-beefed-up-guide/ As for spec then the fastest processor (core2duo) and most ram in your purchase as you can afford/get. Minimum 1gb ram (2gb for lion). If your doing heavy weight app stuff then normal rules apply - the more the better Lion runs fine on 1.2ghz core2duo D430's with 2gb ram for example. And im going to move this post to more appropriate section. Enjoy and feel free to read all the guides in the main sites menus. Cheers
  13. OK my guide below is now superseded by the OSXL official guide here: http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/installation/'>http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/installation/ Mine below now contains bad links and some mistakes! OK I used the very helpful guides here on OSXL when trying and experimenting with getting Lion on my Latitudes and have added and tweaked bits and pieces in a offline copy so I can refer to it when helping others etc. Anyway it's a more complete (but still links off to other guides and downloads) guide to try and help the first time installer. I wondered if anyone thought this to be a worthy guide or even if parts of it can be used to update OSXL's already excellent guides? Here is a preview of it for comment and suggestion - let me know what you think: OSXLatitude OSX Lion Install guide – top to tail Version 1.0 22nd May 2012 Requirements: - A supported model (2gb RAM or above needed for Lion on any Latitude) - A USB Installation pen (http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation-2/'>http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation-2/) – (some odd issues with the latest Myhack on Latitudes at the moment – so read the existing posts on the forum before throwing yourself into USB stick creation) - Latest EDP package (copy onto USB KEY) - http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/ - Latest approved Chameleon bootloader - http://www.osxlatitude.com/files/Chameleon.pkg - Time and patience - 10gb of free space to install OSX - external USB mouse and Keyboard (needed for initial setup process as laptop KB and mouse may not work) Before you start: Its highly recommend that you backup any important data on your computer since we will be deleting everything on the target disk during installation. It’s recommended that that you have flashed your BIOS with OSXLatitude version before install: http://www.osxlatitude.com/custom-bios-update-with-slic-apple-logo-and-edps-dsdt/ Watch this video (I found it useful for advice on some of the EDP settings but it is for a particular D6x0 model so don’t use it as a complete replacement for instructions below just to give you some confidence): http://www.youtube.com/embed/HNw-aSzVzTI Step 1. – Create a USB Installation pen Read the guide http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation-2/ for creating a OSX Installation usb pen Step 2 – Before install Set the BIOS HDD to ACHI on D630’s. Disable any power management in BIOS – some people also disable WIFI. All Intel WIFI cards are no go for OSX – you must have a Broadcom WIFI card (I normally buy DW1395 cards off ebay) – but other Broadcom cards can be used – check the forums for other peoples experiences. While OSX installs do not let the screen go to sleep (move the mouse every couple of mins). You will need an external USB mouse and keyboard Step 3. – Installation 1. Boot from your created USB stick (Press F12 on BIOS load screen to get ‘One time boot menu’ 2. Once in the OSX installation, select “Disk Utility” from the top bar 3. Create a Mac OS X Journaled (Extended) partition on your hard drive – set it as GUID (this option in Advanced) 4. Exit Disk Utility and continue the next steps through the installation After installation is done, reboot your system. Step 4. – First boot and post-installation (ideal if you’re wired into your broadband in case the WIFI card does not work) Boot from your created USB stick again In the bootloader menu press any key and select your Lion partition icon. Follow the initial Apple setup (no need to register skip that bit!). Once you’re on the desktop copy the EDP package from the USB key to the desktop. Install and run to configure EDP (See “EDP configure” on next page for how to configure EDP). Install the bootloader chameleon package from EDP Option 3. ‘Installer’, Option 7. ‘Install Chameleon’. Install updates via the Apple “Software update” menu – if you don’t want the hassle of fixing the install after 10.7.4 combo update then do the no combo updates (itunes, malware fix tool etc) and then download and install the 10.7.3 combo update separately: http://goo.gl/u8kNY and then don’t update to 10.7.4. Remove USB key and Reboot… .. and there you go… Step 5. If your WIFI card does not work then try this (you must have a Broadcom card): Download the IO80211Family.kext.zip from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=267408 Download and install/run Kext Helper – get it from here: http://cheetha.net/ Unzip the Kext file, Launch Kext Helper, Drag the Kext into window. Put your password in and apply. Once done reboot (fingers crossed) and WIFI working EDP configure (http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp-do-a-new-build/'>http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp-do-a-new-build/) After you have installed EDP onto your harddisk – navigate to /Extra and run edptool.command. Type your password, then you should see the top EDP menu. Now we need to do a new “build”, select option option 1 for kext configuration. Select your model. It may ask you some questions depends on your own needs. Follow this for more EDP specific options so you can prepare what options your will choose for your model: http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp-do-a-new-build/ Congratulations, you are running Mac OS X Lion! Recommended post install fixes and installs from EDP D4x0 – GMA950 graphics/brightness fix – EDP steps from initial menu 2 then 8 All models: Istat menus – EDP steps from initial menu 3 then 8 All models: weird issues! – EDP steps from initial menu 2 then 1 All models: Getting sleep to work use this guide: http://www.osxlatitude.com/getting-sleep-to-work-on-your-dell/
  14. For anyone that is doing a fresh install of Lion on a Latitude the easiest way possible and doesn't want to have the hassle of having to fix 10.7.4 (see the forum for issues and fixes!) then you can download the 10.7.3 combo update here: http://goo.gl/u8kNY So you can follow the guides to install on a Latitude but when instructed to update OSX using Software Update then do not do the combo update - install using the downloaded update package above - other updates can be applied via Software Update. Let us know if this is useful and works OK for you. You can always move to 10.7.4 when your confident using the fixes in the forum or when a 'easy' fix is developed
  15. Have you set a BIOS password? And installed the sleep fix in EDP? - this 'fixes' sleep - you have to put BIOS password in every time it wakes - but very small price to pay: http://www.osxlatitude.com/getting-sleep-to-work-on-your-dell/ Don't have EDP to hand at the moment but their may be a sound fix in there as well?
  16. Ok this might help. http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation/ This is an old guide. Check the requirements and then read the last piece about windows users. This might get you the ability to boot from this stick and get you the ability to get to the terminal and replace the kext. Sorry for my vagueness I have never used this method. The 430 image I reckon will work if you have intel graphics on your d630. This is the only option I can see you have at the moment.
  17. If you have access to another mac and you have a USB sata caddy then you could remove the disk from your D630 and replace the downloaded file on the d630 disk on that mac. Credit to keithdee in the thread above for that lateral thinking Is that any use? What do you have access to OS and hardware wise?
  18. https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1363-start-your-engines-1074-is-here/ Help and advice in above topic. Cheers
  19. - things happening - front page looks brilliant - not fully working yet but looking great. Cheers
  20. - that was me that commented that they would make good hackintosh's and to take a look here - and the OP updated the deal post - glad your enjoying your £85 OSXLATITUDE - I can see from your other post that it all worked good so looks like the WIFI card you got worked out the box so to speak! Cheers
  21. Thanks for the tips. When and how do you do 1.) ? Use kext helper after install of update (and booting using some Chameleon flags to get to OSX desktop to do this or some other way? And 2.) is using edp? What is DP4 - OK I googled it Developer Preview 4? Again using kext helper - is this just the gma950 fix in EDP? Thanks in advance.
  22. Hi Peter, I'm not too far away down in Derbyshire - was the SCHtrade Dell a 2ghz or 1.6ghz model (tipped on hotukdeals?). What graphics chipset/screen res is it? Very good price Have you also grabbed yourself a DW1395 broadcom wifi card? The Intel ones are no go with Lion (or Snow Leopard as far as I remember). You can get one from ebay for £3-4. My 620 works a treat with Lion (very occasionally kernel panic from cold boot - but nothing to worry about). Enjoy
  23. http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/9/3010155/os-x-lion-10-7-4-fixes-filevault-password-bug or perhaps our friends here already have good advice as I think I remember one of the devs/admins mentioning they had been testing 10.7.4?
  24. Find a friend/relative/colleague who has got an ipad - they seem to get a couple of stickers in every pack I tried it but ended up removing the stickers (felt a bit self conscious!)- could of done with making a little bit of packing/blanking to cover the Dell logo insert first before sticking them on - would stop the stickers sinking where the logo is and the "Dell" showing through.
