  1. Has anyone here had the issue where upon going into "About This Mac" and then clicking on "More Info", it appears the page wants to open, but after a couple of seconds returns you to the log on screen? If so, were you able to correct it?
  2. @desterly, my apologies, the guide was created almost a year ago (at the time ML was just being made available to the public), and was the solution (placing the modified IO80211.kext in E/E) a member indicated worked when they were unable to connect to WiFi. I did not have the issue, but placed it in the guide for others who may have experienced the issue (which may have included you?). Obviously this created issues at the 10.8.4 update. I appreciate being made aware of it and the explanation of your work-around, which will help others that may encounter the issue.
  3. I've not had an issue with either the branded or non-branded card, but I also do not have the IO80211 kext in E/E, only S/L/E. As a result of testing the cards, I currently have an unbranded Dell DW1510 (recognized in System Report as "Third-Party Wireless Card"), and with WPA2 Personal (AES) encryption without any issues resulting from the 10.8.4 update. For anyone interested in rebranding, read Leon's article here: http://www.osxlatitude.com/rebranding-broadcom-802-11abgn-cards-as-airport-extreme/ NOTES: I was able to do it using Ubuntu 12.04, the URL to get the b43-tools is corrected in Leon's post, if you should use Prasys' blog, please note that is an old location which has been depricated
  4. From what I saw in that thread, you got good advice. Make sure that kexts that were to be deleted actually were, permissions and kext caches need to be rebuilt after addition or removal of kexts - make sure you are doing that. When using MyHack, it is as simple as opening MyHack up, choosing to run MyFix (usually Full, not Quick - this option will come up automatically), and making sure that you're choosing the installer to rebuild permissions and kext caches on, not the hard drive. For people who have less experience, this makes the process easier. You should also read the whole thread, as your solution might already be there. Currently, there has been an update to one operating system and the release of another and most people here are working on issues with those and honestly don't have the time right now to cover territory already covered, it will take some effort on your part
  5. That usually comes with the GMA 4500MHD graphics cards which won't support acceleration in Mountain Lion currently, making for a less than enjoyable experience. Double check to see if you have different graphics (on boot up, tap f2 key to get into BIOS and scroll down to Video Controller section and take note of which is in your machine).
  6. Yes, the good news is that it's easy to do (just remove two wires, two screws, slide card out and replace card, wires and screws) and is relatively inexpensive ~ $10 US (or less) on ebay. The color of the triangles below the wire attachments reminds you which color wire get attached there.
  7. At the point where you get to IOBluetoothhcicontroller (completed), it is as stated - complete. It is at this point where the framebuffers usually start loading, so I would assume it's Graphics related. The architecture is different from mine, but Patel4Prez has a pretty complete thread on the E6410 which might be of help, but again, is based on the MyHack installation process.
  8. Intel wireless cards are not supported by OSx. You will need to switch it out for an Apple compatible one. Suggested one would be a Dell DW1510 (if searching on eBay, also search PW934 - they can sometime be found cheaper when listed this way). Also look here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1615-dell-latitude-e5520/
  9. We advocate the use of MyHack here for good reason, it has proven to be a reliable method and a method we are familiar with, giving us the ability to diagnose issues that pop up more easily. Following the guide posted here will allow you to understand these things as well, since you gain some hands on experience as well as a resource to diagnose and remedy your own issues based on others experience and expertise. Generally, you can gain enough knowledge through the process to not have to rely on others. That is the goal of documenting each step, helping others understand the relationship between the software and hardware and between different aspects of the software. Hopefully, using the guide will empower you to assist others.
  10. I presume this issue is in 10.8.3, not the latest update. I also presume you installed by MyHack. Have you tried running a MyFix (Full) on this volume to rebuild caches and permissions? MyHack was placed in your Applications folder during install (if you used that method), so you can run it from there. Just make sure you choose the MyFix option after opening MyHack, that you have chosen to run it on you ML drive and chose full fix. If there is not a discernable difference, you can re-enable Speedstepping
  11. I'm not sure if it is a security bug/limitation issue or if it is just collateral damage from initial steps in implementing the new WiFi protocol, but yes, it would seem to have by-passed those that work OOB.
  12. As per Prasys' work, the Dell DW1510 has been rebranded as AppleAirport (as opposed to the normal Third Party Wireless). As per his thoughts, rebranding: Makes it more vanilla (since everyone is talking about going retail and want to be as close to a real mac as possible) Immunity against system upgrades (yes its true if you use a generic card however knowing how Apple works. They could simply blacklist non-Apple Broadcom cards so that they would not work at all). Its just possible Increases your confidence level so you’ve finally managed to do something that is related to low-level hardware stuff increases resale value of the card (in case if you want to sell it back. Suppose if you bought it for $10 , now you can sell it for $20 or so and you can say that its 100% genuine apple card instead of third party wireless) - See more at: http://prasys.info/2009/12/rebranding-broadcom-802-11abgn-cards-as-airport/#sthash.Wpdxrly5.dpuf I personally, have not noticed a profound difference in performance since doing so, but based on Prasys' thoughts above, I wanted to include that caveat. I have tried the stock (un-rebranded) DW1510 (Broadcom BCM94322HM8L) and had no issues with WiFi on my E6500 with WPA2, WPA, WEP or unsecure networks.
  13. To add to the list that Herve and Bronxteck have compiled, my E-series 6500 contains a DW1510 which was OK with AES WiFi encryption. A caveat is that mine has been rebranded, which may or may not have an impact. I will try later and post the results when I switch it out with a stock DW1510 and do additional testing for both with basic WEP encryption.
  14. I have updated my findings after Bronxteck pointed out an issue regard caches (which was seconded by Herve). The update placed a newer version of AppleACPIPlatform.kext in S/L/E (version 1.7), which conflicts with the version (1.3.5) in E/E, which will create issues with cache rebuilding. Best to delete the AppleACPIPlatform.kext from S/L/E (version 1.7), go into Application to MyHack and run a Full MyFix to rebuild permissions and caches to avoid problems.
  15. The issue could indeed be the version of OSx. During the initial phase of getting ML to work on the E6400/E6500, we noticed heating issues with 10.8.0, which appeared to be resolved in updates.
  16. Delete AppleACPIPlatform.kext 1.7 from S/L/E, run MyFix and rebuild caches?
  17. For those looking to update your E6400/E6500 Latitudes, it appears that there are no issues when doing so. I used the App Store update (which in my case included updates for iMovie, iTunes and iPhoto). After downloading, I restarted to install the 10.8.4 update (the others don't require a restart to install) and upon completion saw a message that indicated all updates couldn't be installed - an unknown error occurred. This wasn't the case, as the machine updated just fine, with no need to modify or re-install any kexts. A check of software update also indicated no updates were available. I also repaired disk permissions after the update. If you should encounter a problem, check the first post in this thread for any available work arrounds. Although this appeared too be the case, the update added an AppleACPIPlatform.kext into S/L/E (System/Library/Extensions) - version 1.7, which will conflict with the AppleACPIPlatform.kext in E/E (Extra/Extensions) - version 1.3.5 when rebuilding caches, and cause problems. Go into S/L/E and delete the AppleACPIPlatform.kext by right clicking on it and moving it to trash. Then go in Applications, click on MyHack, add your password and choose to run MyFix on your ML 10.8.4 drive. When given the option, choose to run a Full MyFix. It will rebuild your permissions and caches and eliminate the issue. Another issue that has arisen with the 10.8.4 update, as Apple implements new WiFi protocols, it appears support for some cards has been impacted, currently the DW1395, which is a full sized card used in the D Series Latitudes and a few others, where the connection seems to have been broken by the update. It appears the DW1510 is currently safe from issues (not sure about others, we'd like to hear about your WiFi if you're having issues, so we can document working hardware and look for solutions if impacted). Thanks to Bronxteck (and Herve who confirmed Bronxteck's diagnosis) for pointing out what I overlooked.
  18. Yeah, I'm going to request a 10.8.5 to take care of that. LOL
  19. A local reseller had three of them (all speced as in my signature - of course without OSx) that I was able to get at $30@, so I grabbed them. If you'd like to try, I'll send my DSDT. Sleep DOES NOT work, may with additional DSDT editing.. I updated my Latitude E6500, using update from App Store, with included iPhoto and iTunes updates. After download and restart to install, at the end of Install, I was greeted with Your Updates Were Unable To Be Installed - An Unexpected Error Occured. This proved to be false, as I rebooted into a working 10.8.4 system. Reran Software update to be certain and No Updates Are Available. Also, I always repair permissions after an update. I would assume (yes I know what assume does) that it is safe to run the update if using the Mountain Lion Anyone install. I'll wait to hear from others with the different install methods to be sure (although, they should work in a similar fashion)
  20. As a follow up to Bronxteck's post, I updated my HP DC7800 CMT to 10.8.4 without incident or issue. I chose this one for a number of reasons - It is a very "Vanilla" system (these are usually less prone to update issues), I use it infrequently (if there was an issue, I had plenty of time to get to it) and it contains installs of Microsoft Office 2011, iLife '11 and iWork '09 (I wanted to see if there was any impact on the install with these or impact on the programs). I will try my others later and post the impact of the update on them as well as any necessary "fixes" (if any), including whether Bronxteck's is needed and works (if needed) on those machines.
  21. Apple's latest update to Mountain Lion, 10.8.4, has been closed to Beta testers as of yesterday, 05/31/2013, suggesting a general release is imminent. Among the things being addressed in the update are Graphics drivers, a Safari update and preparation for WiFi protocol 802.11ac introduction. As usual, for those who rely on the community to make sure updating will not significantly impact your build, it is suggested that you either hold off on updating or create a separate partition to update while any changes are reviewed. UPDATE: PLEASE READ BOTH BRONXTECK'S AND HERVE'S FINDINGS BELOW CONCERNING KERNEL CACHE ISSUES AND WIFI ISSUES RESULTING FROM THE UPDATE.
  22. There is a resident DSDT person here, you can look at the forums and submit yours for editing which should resolve your BIOS reset issue. He offers service on a first come, first served basis as time allows or sponsered service (almost immediate). Ethernet is usually resolved by determining which card you have and locating the proper kext. Wi-Fi can be the same, however many wi-fi cards are unsupported in OSx and require replacement with a compatible card. Once you determine which ethernet and wi-fi hard ware you have, these should be easy to resolve
  23. Try temporarily disabling Speedstepping in BIOS to see if that stops the freeze ups. Although not the solution, it will might give us an idea of where to look for a solution.
  24. PM me with the lock code that shows on your screen (usually the service tag, a hyphen and a four digit sequence) and I can send you an unlock code for it.
