    Slow Shutdown

I've updated from v4r7 to v4r12 (not that I actually needed to, but...) and now have the same kext in /S/L/E as I had in /E/E. But is that kext actually loaded?

    Slow Shutdown

For info, here's what I have on my D630 nVidia when reading file info: - in /S/L/E: AppleACPIPlatform.kext, version 1.6, size 569 757 bytes - in /E/E: AppleACPIPlatform.kext, version 1.3.5, size 2 280 797 bytes The loaded kext is indeed loaded as version 1111 from /SL/E myHack kext plugins folder (size 1 806 582bytes). Does this mean that the kexts in /E/E and /S/L/E could both be removed?
  3. I've tried other kexts, reported operational under Lion, but no success. Whilst these PCMCIA kexts fully support the Cardbus card, they always cause loss of Wireless. So, this is still an open matter being worked on. Meantime, the above kext can be used as an awkward workaround, but not a permanent solution. At least on Lion. It probably works ok on Kurt's SL 10.6.1. Kurt, could you confirm?
  4. Which Trackpad/Mouse controller do you use?
  5. Hi, it'd be a good idea to provide the specifications of your D620 to start with. Provided you have the correct CPU (Lion needs Core 2 Duo minimum) and you followed the EDP-based procedure available here, you should have no problem at all.
  6. Try a different Mouse/Keyboard kext maybe. VoodooPS2 controller usually works very well. ANV-Slice too.
  7. I can run a different type of VPN application/service without issue on my D630s (Juniper Netwok Connect). Tested Ok under SL, Lion and ML with Network Connect 6.5.0 and 7.1.0. It also works on my Inspiron 6000 under Leopard.
  8. 'haven't used SL for a while now, but great success wth Lion on D630 intel X3100. No issues whatsoever with various EDP versions (from v2.2 to various v3 and now v4).

  11. Re: keyboard mapping: - download and install DoubleCommand. Then, in System Preferences, setup the DoubleCommand pref pane as follows: . check 'Command Key acts as Option Key' . check 'Option Key acts as Command Key' . check 'PC style Home and End keys' . click on 'Activate' + 'User' + 'System' buttons - download Ukelele and copy the appropriate Logitech keyboard mappings to /Library/KeyboardLayouts What EDP kexts/options did you install?
  12. Are you running the (basic) ModCD legacy_kernel installation or the full myHack installation?

    Slow Shutdown

Hi, I have the exact same model as JDuBu on 10.8.2 (albeit 4Go DDR2-800 and standard 80Go SATA 7.2k rpm) and do not have that slow behaviour behaviour at all. Whilst I have the occasionnal shutdown/restart failure, if I attempt a reboot or a shutdown after I've used the laptop for several minutes, it's all Ok. Just did a shutdown and it took 20s, spinning wheel appearing after 5s. my EDP v4 r7 (not updated to r8 yet) settings: 1) kexts: - ANV-Slice modified VoodooPS2Controller - NullCPUPowerManagement (yes) - SleepEnabler (yes) - Emulated SpeedStep (yes) - VoodooTSCsync (yes) - AppleHDA STAC9205 #2 or VoodooHDA #3 (tested ok with both) - VoodooBattery 2) fixes: - Hibernation fix - Touch S/L/E - Sound delay (really good to synchronize Sound Kb buttons and task bar level)
  14. On looking into the kext, I found it has a IOPCIFamily kext in its Plugin folder. That's very likely the cause of the post-install wireless issue; I guess it conflicts with the other kext of the same name at /S/L/E level. I foolishly extracted the IOPCCard kext out of the Plugin folder to copy it to /S/L/E but, again, OS crashed running myFix. On reboot, the laptop now goes to KP. So, not a good idea! Never mind, I'll recover from that tonight...
  15. Ok, I tried the IOPCMCIAFamily.kext on my D620 nVidia and my D630 X3100 HiRes, both running Lion 10.7.5. I tested this with an old SiteCom dual-USB 2.0 Cardbus (=32bit) card that I've had for at least 10years (was used in my 1996 ThinkPad 760XD to get USB ports under Win98!). Obviously, older 16bit PCMCIA/PC Card devices should be considered unsuitable. On the positive side: - it works! - before installing the kext, inserting the card and plugging a device yielded to nothing. - after installing the kext and rebuilding permissions, I was able to see & use my USB keys and Webcam once plugged into the Cardbus card. On the negative side: - after copying kext to /S/L/E, repairing permissions with myFix resulted in OS crash on both laptops (the gentle text message that advises you to manually shutoff your computer and restart). - on rebooting, both laptops lost Wireless capability (Wifi found disabled). Still trying to re-enable Wifi with the PCMCIA kext running in parallel... Wireless is active again if the PCMCIA kext is removed and permissions rebuilt. So, this kext will probably allow Kurt to use his Firewire card on his D620, but at the cost of losing Wireless capability in the current conditions.
  16. What model of card is that? Must be fairly old if it states Mac OS 8.6... That's going back a few good years to PPC-based Macs.
  17. Yes, absolutely. Basically, any card supported by Mac OS X 10.6 and/or above and of (full) mini PCI-e format will do (not half-mini format, they can't be locked in without adapter). For instance, you can use a Broadcom 4321 or 4322 card to replace your duff one. No need to change anything as far as aerial cables are concerned. These are known supported models, as confirmed here -> http://www.osxlatitu...irport-extreme/ Some Atheros cards should work too (eg: AR9280).
  18. Thanks, something to add to the list of useful info. For reference, what is the exact model labelled on the card? I'm myself bought a Broadcom card out of an HP laptop and it worked out of the box (it was a 4311 model). There are a few posts on the forum related to the patched 80211 kext and a wiki page here re: rebranding of Broadcom cards: http://www.osxlatitu...irport-extreme/
  19. I no longer run SL, but I have no such issue under Lion (D630, X3100, EDP v3 r431 + D630, X3100, EDP v4 r7) or ML (D630, nVidia, EDP v4 r7). I even have different models of BT adapters from one D630 to another. I'd say your issue is probably related to kexts rather than BIOS settings or H/W. Which EDP kexts did you install? Pre-defined values or user-defined ones? Can you confirm your EDP version? I always opt for self-defined values and install the following: - NullCPUPowerManagement - SleepEnabler - VoodooTSCsync - Emulated SpeedStep Then, I usually apply the Hibernation fix. On all my D630s, I have Wifi + BT controlled by the switch (that is a BIOS setting) and both services resume Ok after wake (BT can take something like 20 to 30s on occasions). In terms of BT settings, I have BT activated (of course), detectable and BT sharing active.
  20. There could be a few incorrect BIOS settings as well. There seems to be an odd BusClock & FSB speed reported in your screen dump, which would suggest Dynamic Acceleration could still be enabled. Could be worth checking your CPU/HDD/USB/Performance BIOS settings and report back.
  21. Just to be sure: you say your install went to completion but you cannot reboot into OS X; neither off the USB bootloader, nor directly off the HDD partition. I'm a great believer of starting with a sound base, but if you think your installation media is Ok, give a shot to another installation.
  22. Do a little search on the forum, you'll find existing posts on the matter with a list of models.
  23. There's no possible comparison between RAM Qty and disc technology...
  24. Copy the file called 'DSDT.aml' off the downloaded D620 Bootpack to the "/Extra" folder of your USB key. If you find no "/Extra" folder, create it. Then proceed with your ModCD installation. Once system is installed and you've booted into it for the 1st time via ModCD bootloader, copy again that 'DSDT.aml' file to /Extra of your HDD. Regarding your CPU, I'd tend to believe the BIOS, expecially if it's the latest one. If you have a Win installation available, use tools like CPUZ or Intel's CPUID to find out your exact model. Under Mac OS, download MacCPUID off Intel's web site.
  25. 1st of all and before you do anything else, replace your Intel Wireless card by a Dell/Broadcom one because Intel boards are not supported. Do a search on the forum for posts with listed models. Re-create your myHack USB pen: 1) OS X installer (10.6) 2) Install Extra (use your downloaded Bootpack) That's it, nothing else at this stage, no need to add anything else. Install SL onto your laptop. On completion and reboot, you won't have Wifi (unless you've replaced your wireless card), just 10/100/1000 Ethernet. Download and install EDP and run it to apply the kexts specific to your model (menu 1). Install goodies such as Chameleon and SoundFlower or iStats. Reboot, you'll be in business.
