  1. Hi, how did you install Lion on that D620? Try and boot with -x -v -f parameters to see if you can go through.
  2. The M4300 is pretty much a D830 with a professional graphics card (Quadro FX 360m vs. Quadro NVS 135m/140m) When you start the USB key installer and you see the scrolling blue bar, press [ENTER] and type: USBBusFix=No npci=0x2000 -v See if that helps. I'd also recommend that you look at the BIOS settings for the D830 nVidia and configure your BIOS in an identical manner.
  3. EDP does not know what CPU any given laptop may have, so it does not "update" the IntelCPUMonitor.kext in /Extra/Extensions. On the contrary, it replaces the kext with a sort of default version where TjMax will have a preset value (eg: 0). You need to open up the kext and edit the 'info.plist' file with a text editor (or a plist editor) to set the TjMax parameter to the value that suits your CPU (get that info from Intel web site by typing "Intel Txxx" on google, where Txxx is your exact CPU model). Save the file, re-run myFix (full) and reboot. Your CPU temp will then be properly reported. On your D630, I'd expect your 2.0GHz CPU to be a T7250 or T7300 and TjMax for those processors is 100°C: http://ark.intel.com...GHz-800-MHz-FSB http://ark.intel.com...GHz-800-MHz-FSB There is a thermal pad on top of the GMA chip or nVidia GPU, but there is always thermal paste right on top of the CPU. That will harden and more or less disappear with time.
  4. Try and boot with the following options: USBBusFix=No npci=0x2000 If you manage to boot, give us the contents of your Chameleon boot plist (it's best to use Chameleon Wizard for that). It'll look like this:
  5. 90 to 99°C is way out of what you'd expect on the GMA model and, to me, it must be due to a physical issue. As Bronxteck suggests, do check your CPU heatsink + fan as that's most likely where your problem is. You should also verify that your temp readings are correct. What CPU do you have and did you update the Tjmax settings inside the plist file of your CPUmonitor kext in /Extra?
  6. Which release & version are you trying to install? If Lion 10.7.4, try with a lower version like 10.7.2.
  7. You can't from a Win base, you need a Mac or a Hack. But there are ways to circumvent that issue with bootable CD installer like ModCD that will allow you to install legacy-kernel SL. That can then be used as a temp platform from which myHack can be run...
  8. Hi, please provide the specifications of your D630 and make sure you don't have any incompatible HW like an Intel Wifi card. Once it's established you're starting from a sound base, I'd suggest you boot your installer with option: USBBusFix=No
  9. Great you got there and it seems you confirmed my suspicions. Just install/run EDP and then it's a straight update to 10.7.5 (combo update or direct software update). See the related post in Lion section of the forum.
  10. Try the Nawcom ModCD method as a temp platform to create your myHack OS X installer.
  11. I don't understand why you have to modify OSInstall package to install OS X on your laptop. I've never had to do that when installing Lion on HDD with existing Win7 partitions that I kept, i.e. MBR drive, whether on a D630 or on a D830. It was the same on a D430 when installing SL on an existing MBR HDD with a Win XP partition. I simply reduced the existing Win7 partitions from within Windows and formatted them NTFS. Once the Lion installer started, I simply reformatted the target partition (Mac OS extended (journaled)) and proceeded with installation as normal. Afterwards, it's a simple matter of sorting out the bootloader (for dual boot) and you're ready to rock 'n 'roll. Also, please note that, following apparent confirmation through another user, 10.7.4 does not appear to be a valid Lion version to start from due to the incompatible ACPI kext. Install an earlier release like 10.7.2, followed by EDP and then you can do a straight update to 10.7.5.
  12. @djpumpkin: my apologies, I deleted your post by mistake. To answer your question about not seeing the same settings on your D630 (namely 'integrated USB hub'): that's normal as the BIOS settings do differ between D620 and D630. Have a look at the dedicated BIOS settings posts in the D6xx section.
  13. It's a well-known issue. Have a look at Leon's post (for SL): http://forum.osxlati...-servers-fixed/ Have a look here too: http://prowiki.isc.upenn.edu/wiki/Speeding_up_SMB/CIFS_Connections https://discussions....tart=0&tstart=0
  14. http://forum.osxlati...19-1075-update/
  15. As hinted in another post, I'm wondering if the issue could actually be with version 10.7.4 itself... Would you be able to try & install 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 instead? I'm just thinking of the initial troubles experienced after updating from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 which required replacing the ACPI kext (or was it IOPCIFamily?) to a previous version prior to rebooting or the machine would become unbootable. I've never had any problem installing Lion 10.7.2 on D620s, D630s and/or D830s, followed by EDP + OS X update to 10.7.5.
  16. I'm beginning to wonder if the issue is not with the 10.7.4 version... It looks like the KP is due to ACPI rather than graphics and we all know the initial issues of updating Lion to 10.7.4: we had to revert to a previous ACPI kext (or was it IOPCIFamily?) to avoid dead machine... If you can, try an install an earlier version like 10.7.2 or 10.7.3, from which you would then update to 10.7.5 with EDP support.
  17. Why don't you try the installation yourself? The OS X software only costs $29 and the rest is free, only costs elbow grease...
  18. When creating the myHack 10.7 installer, did you mount the InstallESD image/package found inside the Lion image or did you just mount to the main Lion image? You need to do the former, not the latter.
  19. As usual, open up the laptop and remove all clogged dust from the fan/heatsink area + clean up & re-apply thermal paste on top of the CPU. Intel Crestline models (i.e. non-Vidia) run pretty cool: my CPU is reported in the high-30s°C to low-60s°C range with X3100 reported a bit lower. Did you apply the EDP package, especially the emulated SpeedStep kext? Lion 10.7.5 boot time for my D630 with T7500 2.2GHz CPU, 4Go DDR2-800 RAM and 7200rpm HDD is about 60-70s.
  20. You can look for Dell-branded Broadcom cards such as DW1390, DW1490, DW1395 (802.11 a/b/g) or any other supported 'n' capable card.
  21. re: Wifi card, I was talking about the Wireles Ethernet, not the Bluetooth which you've already indicated to be a BT350 adapter (have a look at the Bluetooth post in the Research section). You could open up the laptop to look at the Wifi card physically (it's under the keyboard).
  22. Have you ever opened up the laptop to check the fan for a big/thick dust clog? You could also renew the thermal paste of your CPU. It's probably all hardened up by now.
  23. Was the BT radio enabled before you installed Mac OS X (BT blue LED lit)? If not, it needs to be enabled from Windows... Which Wifi card do you have? Intel is not supported and some cards like DW1395 require post-install kext.
  24. One little comment re: Tjmax. The value depends on your CPU, so check the Intel web site to obtain the correct value before editing the plist file. Not all CPUs have a Tjmax of 100...
