I'll publish a guide shortly!

Not at the moment. We have been testing it and trying to get it to run but no luck so far. We will keep everybody updated!

Hey everybody, Recently, the crew has been working on a new forum layout that matches the blog, and now we are happy to say that it is complete. It took some time, but today we are officially ready to roll it out to all of our users. Like it? We have also reorganized the forum itself, adding/removing forums and whatnot. The forum was very cluttered with useless forums, so we made it more clean by merging forums into other forums and making them sub-forums, and deleting forums that were just useless altogether. Overall, we hope you enjoy the new layout. It's very nice, and the crew certainly did a great job on it! We have a lot of great stuff coming for you guys in the near future, so stay tuned! Cheers, OSXLatitude Crew == Release Notes == Added Forums: Intel Hardware AMD Hardware Sub-forum added to OS X Mountain Lion: Intel Hardware Sub-forum added to OS X Mountain Lion: AMD Hardware Sub-forum added to OS X Lion: Intel Hardware Sub-forum added to OS X Lion: AMD Hardware Added new forum: Other Research. This is where DSDT/Kext/Bootloader research will go. == Known Bugs == We don't support lower versions of Internet Explorer, just update to IE9 or use another brower. If you have found more bugs, post it in the Feedback Section.

Tyring to Install LION nVidia D830...can't even start!! HELP!!!
JawhnL5 replied to jerseydan31's topic in The Archive
Yep! Install and run EDP 2.2 and make a build of your machine. Reboot and run myFix full mode. -
Good job! I have always had better luck with the D620, but the D630 is an absolute pain. LOL
-
It is possible. I just don't recommend it due to the processor being only single core. I can post a guide if you want. I just recommend staying on Leopard.

Urgent help to install Mac OsX Snow Leopard on Latitue D630
JawhnL5 replied to ufuk's topic in The Archive
I have always found MyHack to be pesky and I never liked it. Consider using xfail from tonycrapx86 and then install Chameleon and then copy the bootpack from OSXLatitude for your model. -
Also, if it is possible you can try to use the DP1 kernel and extensions folder on DP2 and higher
-
I used DP1 of ML, I haven't tested DP2 yet. It can be any GMA kext from Lion but for Snow Leopard you would probably need to try 10.6.7 or 10.6.8, but I haven't tested SL kexts.

Wait for Mountain Lion and see how that is. Seems like a glitch that Apple needs to fix and either release on a new Lion update or include in Mountain Lion.
-
I installed the 10.7.4 update from Apple's website. Reboot and instant Kernel Panic. So it seems the same is true for the D830 nVidia model.

1. Get a copy of Mountain Lion, I got mine from Apple. If you are not an Apple Developer, there are many other places to get it! 2. Mount the Mountain Lion DMG installer, right click on OS X Mountain Lion Preview 1.app and click "show all content" Navigate to Shared Support and drag "InstallESD.dmg" to your desktop. 3. Bring up Terminal, (spotlight search Terminal) type in: cd desktop hdiutil convert InstallESD.dmg -format UDRW -o InstallESDhacked.dmg After the process is complete, you will see a "InstallESDhacked.dmg on your desktop. This will allow us to modify the new installer (read/write) 4. Mount "InstallESDhacked.dmg" (skip the "verify installer" when mounting) 5. Now, you need a few files from Lion installer, OSInstall.mpkg, EFI32.pkg and Systemfolder. 6. Drag EFI32.pkg and OSInstall.mpkg into the Packages Directory. (delete the old one, replace it with the patched version) 7. Now, drag the System File thats on the drive into the Trash and copy the downloaded System folder onto the root of the drive. Now what you may want to do is rename is to InstallESD.dmg and copy it to a flash drive and install Chameleon and all that good stuff. 8. If you did everything right, after installation you should be able to reach the desktop, but have no accelerated graphics whatsoever, only framebuffer. 9. 2 ways to perform this step: A: Manually copy and install the right kext. B: Use kexthelper (skip step 12) For GMA 950 Users, copy these kexts from Lion to install on Mountain Lion: AppleIntelGMA950.kext, AppleIntelGMA950VADriver.bundle, AppleIntelGMA950VLDriver.bundle, IntegratedFramebuffer.kext For GMA X3100 Users, copy these kexts from Lion to install on Mountain Lion: AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext, AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle, AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext, AppleIntelGMAX3100VLDriver.bundle, IntegratedFramebuffer.kext 10. Install the GMA 950 kext using KextHelper and reboot. 11. After it reboots, you should be able to see a pop up message saying that the kext isnt compatible. If yes, reboot. 12. Boot into Single User Mode (i assume you know how) and type the following: chmod -R 755/Volumes/~MLPartitionName/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/~MLPartitionName/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext Then remove cache and rebuilt: rm -rf /Volumes/~MLPartitionName/System/Library/Extensions.mkext kextcache -k /Volumes/~MLPartitionName/System/Library/Extensions 13. Reboot 14: It should work. It has for me, so I don't see why it wouldn't. Keep in mind, this is only for GMA 950 and probably X3100.
-
Using the GMA950.kext from Snow Leopard you can get full graphics acceleration on a second display, just not the main display which shows up blank. I have a D830 w/ nVidia that I could do tests on. Contact me if you need me to test stuff on mine for you.

Unfortunately I think Lion is the Intel versions' last stand. nVidia models on the other hand will probably be saved, which is good since I only have nVidia models. Apple is so unpredictable at times it's not even funny.
-
Before I go all replacing kexts and stuff, would I be fine just installing 10.7.4 on an Intel graphics D830 or does this problem still occur?
-
I tried it out on my D620. I am able to boot up using one core. Gets to the desktop, sound rarely ever works, but I get graphics accl. Probably because I am on nVidia.

Well, it looks like Apple is ready to release another version of Mac OS. It's called Mac OS X Mountain Lion (Mac OS 10.8), and it has been said to be released by Summer of 2012. Mac OS X Mountain Lion looks like Mac OS X Lion, but with added features included those of iOS, like the Game Center, iMessages, Notification Center, Reminders, and Notes. The thing is, should we upgrade? Well, no, not really. I mean, Mountain Lion is okay, but really now, it's only worth upgrading if you want your computer to be more like an oversized iOS device. Personally I am going to stay with Lion. It isn't really worth the upgrade to me, but other people may feel different. Another thing that will be interesting to see is that if they are going to make more attempts at putting a stop to Hackintosh, in this, Dell Latitudes. I am going to hope that they don't make any major changes to the kernel or kexts that Lion uses. If this is the case, Mountain Lion should run as good as Lion, but knowning Apple anything is possible. So - what do you guys think of Mountain Lion? Is it good, bad, or even horrible! Let me know what you think.

Okay, so I got myself a D830. Heavily abused, but free. Has the nVidia Quadro NVS 140m chip, meaning it gets 1920x1200. I have had bad luck with the Intel model I used to have. So I have some questions. 1. Is there a stable custom BIOS upgrade available? 2. When making my USB pen, do I just follow the regular guide or do I use a different Extra folder? 3. In EDP, will the D830 Nvidia option work? Sorry for asking, but I want to know beforehand if it will work.
-
I tested this on my D620 w/ GMA and it is working very, very smoothly. Great work to everybody that made this possible!
-
You delete the old one, and unzip the one for your model onto the root of the usb stick
-
nVidia Quadro and Intel GMA have their pros and cons. In Lion, the GMA model has a few bugs (Currently, brightness has been fixed) but it does have more video ram and has Quartz Extreme out of the box. On Snow Leopard it is perfect. nVidia doesn't have any bugs, just lower video ram and lacks Quartz Extreme out of box, but EDP fixes that.
-
Like said, follow the guide from scratch again. It has been re-written with a new Extra folder solution.

http://cl.ly/2F0X0L033D271S0t3A3W This is the link to EDP 2.2. Also, if you were having issues getting Ethernet to work on Lion on EDP 2.1, it is fixed on this revision.

There is no need of saving the IO80211Family.kext, as when you update to 10.6.8, force quit the Installer and run EDP 1.9 and rebuild the kext configuration, then reboot and everything's fine.
