Last update: 20 Jul 2020 Here are BIOS settings that are known to work on D830 with nVidia Quadro NVS 135M/140M GPU and Intel Crestline GMA X3100 under Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave (models with nVidia graphics only for Mavericks 10.9 and above). LAN/Wi-Fi Auto Switch = Off The above settings are compatible with sleep/wake mode of operation and use of Wireless on/off switch. BT + Wifi services resume on wake + wireless switch re-activation (Wifi requires manual network re-selection after the latter). Edit: BIOS A16 and A17 modify the System Number from -595B to -3A5B. Whilst these latest versions neither bring new particular features nor affect behaviour in OS X, they are however incompatible with unlocking passwords provided by the well-known BIOS password generator tool (Dogbert's tool included in EDP) which only supports System Numbers ending in -595B/-D35B/-2A7B. As such, if your D830 BIOS is locked with an Admin password, you're unable to unlock it if BIOS is above version A15. Please note that having a BIOS Admin password set does not prevent BIOS downgrade from Windows using the package available off Dell's support web site or directly from a USB key using the extracted .hdr file.

Hi Jahudka, is there a particular reason why are you playing with OSinstall packages instead of re-installing from scratch off a fresh myHack installer key? Wouldn't that be much easier? Also, am I right by saying you're trying to install OS X on a HDD that possess an existing Win partition that you don't want to lose? It'd be ideal if you were able to try installation on a different HDD you would partition GUID. That'd give you the most standard platform to start with.

I just copied the kext to /S/L/E and run myFix (full) to repair permissions before rebooting. Nothing to lose by trying that instead of Kext Wizard...

Re-run ModUSB package on that USB key with restored image of SL. Then copy DSDT.aml file of the bootpack to the /Extra folder of the USB key. Re-install OS X and when the laptop reboots, make sure to reboot off the USB key (press F12 and select USB). When you see the bootloader scrolling bar, press [ENTER] and select your HDD partition. This will get you into SL and prompt you to finalize installation (user account, time zone, etc.). Once you're there, follow the EDP procedure to be able to start afresh with a myHack installation USB key to get a Vanilla installation, not a legacy-kernel installation. This works with retail SL 10.6.3, I started this way... If that does not work for you, you're either doing something wrong or your SL image is duff...

Alan, for voice recognition/voice commands, I forgot to say that you also need to activate "Pronounceable Items" in the Accessibility Pref Pane. It's not straight forward, but that's how I did it in Lion.

I knew the "blue nub" is not supported, but I must admit I've never even used the trackpad upper buttons, even in Windows! I'm using ANV-Slice controller under ML and neither the nub, nor the upper buttons appear operational with standard settings. Maybe they do/would with specific mouse or trackpad settings, I don't know. There is quite a choice in terms of PS2 controllers in EDP, you could always try them individually and see if any of them supports what you need.

The EDP procedure will give you a Vanilla OS X installation specifically tuned for your laptop model. You would never get that with a distro as distros are generic and you end up with drivers not suited and/or suitable to your specific computer.

You cannot run the Combo updates?

You won't be installing ML 10.8 on a D430 for sure. Lion 10.7 at best, but SL 10.6 performs much better and will do so nicely on an SSD.

Well, you can use Disk Utility to re-partition/format your USB key as GUID/Mac OS extended (journaled) to start with. Then you mount your retail 10.6.3 SL image and launch myHack to create the USB key installer. At the end of that creation, just re-run myHack to create the /Extra folder of your USB key, pointing to the D620-intel-SL bootpack that you'll have previously downloaded.

Your last line will not encourage people to help you. No-one here is at your disposal. On the 24th, that's 2 days ago, it seemed you had chosen to go your own way, so... I've already suggested the ModCD/ModUSB method to get you started. Did you try it? You said you already have: 1) a DMG image of retail Snow Leopard 2) an existing Hackintosh running Tiger Great. From that Hackintosh, run Disk Utility to restore your SL image to a USB key (must be at least 8Go). Once that is done, download ModUSB package (http://nawcom.com/osx86/ModUSB/) and install it on that USB key. That should give you a bootable SL installation USB key. It may use the legacy kernel by default, but that will do to start with. Download the OSXL bootback for your specific D630 model and copy the contents to the /Extra folder of the USB key. Boot off the USB key and install Snow Leopard. At the end of installation, reboot off the USB key and select your newly created SL partition. This will get you to your newly installed Snow Leopard system, albeit an uncomplete one and no everything will work. However, you should then be able to download/run myHack and start afresh the entire EDP-based procedure and install SL on that D630, running Vanilla kernel.

How far do you get when you boot off the USB key?

After 1st boot, could you try the following? 1) from a Terminal window, type the 'pmset -g' command (or 'sudo pmset -g') to get the Power Management settings 2) put your laptop to sleep, then wake it 3) redo a 'pmset -g' again to compare

Did you try mode 0 to disable hibernation? That's what I run on my D620/D630s without problems.

If you see the bar move as you talk, then, yes, it appears that the mike is working. Are you still running with the D630 Intel LoRes DSDT table? Your contribution is very helpful towards a new EDP-entry for the Vostro1500.

Other people have encountered trouble with Virtual Machine to create the myHack USB installation media. Try using NawCom BootCD to setup your D630 with a temp SL installation (using mach or legacy kernel) from where you can then re-create a proper myHack SL installation boot key and start afresh with a fully OSXL-supported method. Do a little search, I've detailed this method on the forum not that long ago. Make sure to use the correct bootpack for your D630, as there are 3: 1) D630, intel graphics, 1280x800 2) D630, intel graphics, 1440x900 3) D630, nVidia graphics

Hmm, I would not indulge in such bold and silly statements about defying people as far as understanding installation instructions is concerned. I'm truly sorry Dear but, looking at the rather large number of successful installations reported here, I'd say you've lost that contest by quite a distance old chap... I, for one, understood them quite easily, and you know what?... I'm foreign! I'm sure all those who spent time and effort developing this site will fully appreciate your pleasant and useful comments. Had you even clicked on the EDP menu at the very top of your screen or on the link provided by Bronxteck when he replied to you in August, you would have found a top line item labelled "What is EDP?" that would have enlighten you on the meaning of this very precious TLA. This is not the place for iboot (chameleon, stolen and rebranded), that has its own dedicated space... If you follow the detailed instructions provided on the EDP pages, you should find no issues at all. The overall process is the same for all versions of OS X and all systems supported here: creation of myHack OS-version-specific USB boot key with installation of model-specific bootpack, then installation of the OS, followed by installation of EDP (EDP package + kexts installation). If that makes no sense to you, I'm not sure your suggested method would make more sense.

Hi and welcome. You'll find that ML is not supported on those Crestline-based models unfortunately, so you'll be limited to Lion, which is not that bad.

Have a look at the Wiki pages of osx86 project web site (Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard 10.5.6 - alternatively look for Leopard 10.5.8 for Inspiron 6000)

Actually, the D800 is Pentium M/Centrino based with Intel 855PM chipset, so it runs on Banias or FSB400-Dothan CPUs. Best CPU would be PM 765 at 2.16GHz with 2Mo L2 cache. That laptop uses DDR SDRAM, AGP nVidia graphics and an IDE/PATA HDD controller. That is getting pretty ancient and, indeed, Leopard is probably the best possible OS X candidate. A quick search showed that this laptop has been successfully hacked on Tiger; that shows how old it is... I have an Inspiron 6000, a nearly-as-ancient but slightly better model, with chipset 915GM, i.e. support for FSB533 CPUs (which I run as an overclock). I still haven't managed to install SL on it (mostly because I have trouble getting the ICH6 controller supported), so it remains on Leopard 10.5.8. By all means, have a go at hacking it with ModCD and retail Snow Leopard (ideally 10.6.3). That will use a legacy kernel, i.e. the only supported kernel you could operate on that system. But do not expect much out of that.

Try and reboot in your OS X partition via your USB install pen. If that succeeds, check your boot plist in /Extra and give us the list of checked/selected parameters. I think it needs npci=0x2000 for ML (well, the D630 nVidia does, to boot ML).
