If Quiet Boot is enabled in Chameleon (you never see Chameleon, it just boots), then F8 is indeed the key you need to start pressing after you see the BIOS screen. Other keys aren't registered (at least, not for me).
-
To fix that, go into System Preferences perform the following: Go into System preferences and select Networking Inside the Networking pane, remove all network connections Click the + button to create network connections 1. Make sure you select 'ethernet', 2. Name it 'Ethernet', 3. Select create Make sure you re-do those steps for Wi-Fi after doing it for Ethernet. Reboot, you should be good.

DELL Latitude E5520, Intel Core i5-2430M, Intel HD 3000

Yup, I would try what Jake Lo has posted. It should work. -
To be honest, this is probably where our advice stops. You were warned that your graphics card, the HD 4500MHD, would not work with OS X. At this point, troubleshooting why you are having graphics issues is just redundant and wasting time. Apologies and good luck.

DELL Latitude E5520, Intel Core i5-2430M, Intel HD 3000
bobdamnit replied to madmax's topic in The Archive
This machine is very similar to the Inspiron 3520, actually. Its like a combination of the 3520 i5/HD4000 and the 3520 i3/HD3000. You might take a look at that guide, or another similar machine's guide and adapt it to your system. Just be sure that you don't use another machine's DSDT/SSDT and that you remove those files from the bootpacks/Extra's you try. Also be aware that you'll need to edit your DSDT for the dual-link fix if your resolution is over 1366x768, you'll need to rename GFX0 to IGPU, and you'll need to run the "Brightness fix" (HD 3000/4000) in order to boot with proper graphics support and have the function keys work properly. Feel free to ask if you need help. It's why we're here! -
To make FaceTime and iMessages work, you will need to generate FileNVRAM.plist with Chameleon Wizard and place it in /Extra/Modules. Then you must enter your credit card information into your Apple ID.

You should still have to replace airportd after an update, right?
-
Only when you update OS X.
-
Did you read the whole thread? Pokenguyen managed to get his card (Same as yours) working but he had to remove the native IO80211.kext from /System/Library/Extensions and replace it with this one: http://www.osx86.net/files/file/549-bcm4312-wifi-fully-working-10-8-2/?st=10 That kext should also work in 10.9. Then you'll have to download the zip from here: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/6166-temporary-wifi-fix-for-broadcom-43xx-series-cards-for-109-mavericks/?hl=airportd And replace the airportd file in /usr/libexec with the one in the zip. Be sure to back the original files up in case you screw up. Keep in mind that you will have to replace those items EVERY time you update OS X.
-
It should work without modification, however you may not be able to connect to any secure wireless networks (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc...) until you do this: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/6166-temporary-wifi-fix-for-broadcom-43xx-series-cards-for-109-mavericks/?hl=airportd

As Bronxteck said, updates usually work great. I try not to use the App Store to update. I'll go download the standalone update or the combo update from Apple's website and update that way instead. I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not.
-
Same here on an Inspiron 3520. I'd say its fairly safe to update to 10.9.3! Thanks for the report, Hervé!
-
Delta update: Only includes 10.9.3 Combo update: Includes all updates from 10.9 onward
-
I already have it installed. Updating is simple if you are running a proper /Extra and have a properly modified DSDT or hardware supported out of box. Some notes about the update: -Kernel was updated to 13.2.0 -Some graphics kexts/bundles are updated for 4k support All in all, it was a smooth update. I updated with the delta update and not through the Mac App Store.
-
Apple released OS X 10.9.3 today. Its available in the Mac App Store, or available as a standalone and combo update. You can get the delta and combo update here: http://support.apple.com/downloads I haven't installed it yet, so I'm not 100% sure what is updated. Also included in the update is iTunes 11.2. Some features in the 10.9.3 update: Improves 4K display support on Mac Pro (Late 2013) and MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display (Late 2013) Adds the ability to sync contacts and calendars between a Mac and iOS device using a USB connection Improves the reliability of VPN connections using IPsec Resolves an issue that prevented Font Book from installing PostScript Type 1 fonts Improves reliability of copying, editing and inspecting permissions of files on an SMB file server Improves reliability of network home directories Improves stability when installing configuration profiles Improves login speed for users in Active Directory groups Includes Safari 7.0.3

Retail Apple 10.7 USB -> install w/o a Mac, possible?
bobdamnit replied to osxuser's topic in The Archive
Boy, isn't this the absolute truth. Apple, while amazing, do NOT make this easy. But once its done, and everything is working properly, it truly is awesome. -
I did not know that. I might patch nodes in VoodooHDA and see if I can get the internal microphone working, because having to carry around an external microphone is kind of a nuisance. Thanks for the heads up, Bronx!
-
Good luck. I have this exact same audio device in my Inspiron 3520 and I've tried this as well, with no success. The only thing I've found that works is VoodooHDA version 2.8.2 and then editing it to enable the half audio fix. The only caveat I've found is that the internal microphone doesn't work, however the external microphone does work. You can find a pre-modified VoodooHDA and instructions here (look at the "Fixes" section for instructions, and the modified VoodooHDA is near the end of the guide): https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/6392-dell-inspiron-3520-i3-2370m-hd3000-i5-3210m-hd4000-mountain-lionmavericks/

So, thanks to @durga and @pokenguyen, I finally got the Inspiron 3520 fully supported. It supports both models of the 3520, the HD 4000 and the HD 3000 models. Both models work flawlessly with OS X 10.8 and 10.9. Each model has separate bootpacks and Extra's. Both have minimally patched DSDT's that allow for stock graphics kexts, which means no more removing those kexts from the myHack installer. As SSDT's are processor dependent, I've opted out of including them in the Extra, as each model came with several different i3's and i5's, however the guide does detail how to generate one and enable native power management. I'm requesting it be added to EDP so that others with the same laptops can do this much easier. For info, you can see my guide: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/6392-guide-inspiron-3520-109/ I'm also requesting that the guide be moved/copied into subforum "Supported models with guides > Dell". Thanks for your consideration.

Download Chameleon Wizard. You will see the "Ethernet Built In" in the "Miscellaneous" section under the tab "org.chameleon.boot" tab. Place a checkmark next to it like this:
-
Ok, I'll give it a shot. Will report back on status! Edit: That destroyed graphics. The Intel HD 3000 now uses AppleIntelFramebufferCapri, so I renamed that back to stock and dropped your DSDT into place and ran myHack (Full) and rebooted. Here's the results: With massive amounts of artifact/tearing.
-
No, I did not do the IMEI injection patch because it cause a boatload of errors that I couldn't figure out (4 different "screens" on my screen with stock kexts). All I did was the _PLD Buffer fix, rename GFX0 to IGPU and perform the brightness patch so that clamshell sleep worked, as well as my FN+F4/5 buttons for brightness worked. Also, the Inspiron 3520 does use the HM75 chipset. I sure hope durga comes back though, because I'd like to get his machine working and add his steps to my guide so that all variations of the 3520 are covered.
-
Yes, me too. Even still, in the case of my HD 3000, I have to patch AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB and rename AppleIntelFramebufferCapri in order to make it work, even with a DSDT patch. @durga: Remove my DSDT.aml from /Extra and download MacIASL from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/maciasl/. Run MacIASL and do the following: Make the preferences look like this: Close MacIASL and re-open it. Then click File>Save As and make sure you select this: Then upload it here. I'm sure me and pokenguyen (if he is willing to help!) can patch it for your graphics.
-
To be honest, pokenguyen, he is probably using my DSDT which is patched for the Inspiron 3520 with Intel HD 3000 graphics. He's using my /Extra that he got from my guide. He should probably remove it and create his own. If he does, I'd like to have a copy of it (patched) so I can add it to the guide for the HD 4000 models.
