Hi, I think we should hold on for a while before updating to 10.7.4 until all the issues are fix. From my testing on D630 X3100 of the DP version, the kernel need to be booted in 64 bit mode (i.e. mach_kernel arch=x86_64) otherwise the boot up will take a long time as mentioned above. Further, I have found that those with GMA950 and X3100 models may not get graphics acceleration as some of the 32 bit graphics kext dependencies are 64 bit now. I need to have a look at the final release to see if Apple updated any on those graphics kexts. Apart from that, some of our EDP kext will also need to be updated to 64 bit kets as the 10.7.4 need to be booted in 64 bit mode. Cheers!

Dear prodigy, 10.6.3 is fine. You can easily update it to 10.6.8 from Apple Updates once you've installed 10.6.3 and its up and running. By the way, after updating to at least 10.6.6, you will have the App Store which you can purchase and download Lion 10.7. Alternatively, you can buy the lion usb stick from Apple Store which I did. Good luck Cheers!

Clear directions on installing lion (10.7) on dell d430
Syonagar replied to toyreon's topic in The Archive
Hi toyreon, There are few options: (1) Buy lion usb or (2) buy snow leopard dvd, upgrade to latest version and purchase lion from app store. You can use your existing 10.5.8 to prepare the usb installer once you get the lion usb or lion apps. Cheers! -
Hi antonine, Try to boot with mach_kernel cpus=1. If that does not work, install the Extra bootpack from the wiki to the usb installer using myhack again. After that, run myfix from myhack on the usb installer and reboot. Cheers!

Dear Eduardo, I have move your post to the right topic. I hope you don't mind. You can use the old method to prepare the usb pen for os x installation especially if you have 10.6 dvd using the guide here : http://www.osxlatitude.com/creating-a-usb-pen-with-osx-installation/ Basically, you need to : (1) create an image of the dvd and then restoring it to the usb; (2) install chemeleon to the usb stick; (3) copy the bootpack for D620 to /Extra/Extensions; (4) reboot with mach_kernel -v -f at the boot prompt and you should get into the installation gui. Give it a try. Cheers!

Dear sipart, We are discussing with Conti (myhack creator) on possible fixes to include in myhack 3.1 for osxl users. We may then need to update the wiki if necessary. Cheers!

Hi eduardo, Welcome to OSXL! You may need to read this post https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1327-myhack-30/page__pid__9008#entry9008 . We'll be looking forward to hear your D620 roaring Cheers!

Dear all, I have done some testing and my first post above need to be corrected. First of all, myhack 3 and EDP is not compatible at the moment using the wiki method, bootpack Extra and EDP. Here is what I found so far:- (a) myhack 3 will automatically install a generic Extra and myHack.kext in the /S/L/E (b ) myfix will basically pack all kexts in Extra into the myHack.kext in the /S/L/E (apart from others such as repairing permissions, etc.) (c ) some kexts in bootpack Extra is duplicating with those in myHack.kext (e.g. FakeSMC, etc.). (d) Just to recap, EDP will install 0EDP.kext in Extra and /S/L/E So, mixing myhack 3, bootpack Extra and EDP is a no go at the moment. However, the following may be able to solve some problems in preparing usb installer and first boot configuration:- (a) After preparing the usb installer with myhack 3, install bootpack Extra and don't forget to remove myhack.kext from /S/L/E. After that boot mach_kernel -v -f to ignore all the kernel and kext caches created by myhack 3 (b ) For post install configuration, on first boot, just run EDP. Avoid running myfix at the moment. You will need to use kext utility for example to repair permission and rebuild the kernel caches before rebooting. Please try and let me know. We are as always working on solution to these problems Cheers!

Dear Allissa, Ok. I think I got the hang of myhack 3 and myfix 3. For your information, myhack 3 and EDP 2.2 is not compatible at the moment in term of Extra kexts configuration. Our apologies, we are also still testing myhack 3 with our methods, bootpacks and EDP. Some points to ponder. In preparing the usb installer, myhack 3 will install generic Extra and myhack.kext in the /S/L/E folder. EDP will install 0EDP.kext in the Extra and /S/L/E folder. Some kexts in the bootpack Extra (e.g. FakeSMC.kext) and 0EDP.kext are duplicating those in myhack.kext in the /S/L/E. Hence, the problem. So, after you prepare the usb installer and copy bootpack into Extra, you need to delete myhack.kext from /S/L/E and try to boot with mach_kernel -v -f. Try it and let me know. After that, we can tackle the post install issues. Cheers!

Dear alissa, Did you ran myfix on the usb installer after to installed the extra? You can also try to use mach_kernel -v -f to ignore the kernel caches. Cheers!

Dear sam, From your first post, I saw that your machine is core duo. Its not a core 2 duo? For your information, lion will not work on a core duo. It needs at least core 2 duo as it runs in general in 64 bit mode. Cheers!

Dear armorman, Welcome to OSXL! Great work! Finally OS X on a tablet. Always thought OS X would be great on a tablet. I'll be watching your work closely. By the way, did you managed to get the onscreen keyboard and graphics acceleration to work? Cheers!
-
Dear xpeace, I don't think its a software issue. It may be a hardware issue. Did you check if your new cpu has similar FSB speed to the old one? Cheers!
-
Dear prodigy, First of all, you should read the wiki section of this site to learn how to install os x. A few points that may be handy. You need to create a new partition to install os x. As for bootloader, you will need to install chameleon from the EDP as it is required to boot os x. You will also use it to triple boot windows xp and linux. As for performance, have a look at the benchmarks section of this site, my D630 beats my dads macbook pro with slightly higher specs. Once you set up the hackintosh correctly it will be as stable as any other operating system. As for peripherals, if it has os x drivers then it should work. Give it a try. Good luck. Cheers!

Hi sam, It seems that quite a few post on d820/d830 is having problem with graphics. I have a feeling its related to the dsdt.aml Anyway, on your usb installer, can you try to move all the GeForce*.kext and NV*.kext (i think these are the graphics kexts for NVidia) from the System/Library/Extensions to somewhere safe and boot from chameleon with mach_kernel -v -f. If it boots into the gui at least we know its related to the graphics kexts. Apart from that, you are trying to install snow leopard right? Lion wont work on a core duo cpu. Cheers!

Hi goatman, After you updated to 10.7.3, did you try to install EDP 2.2 and chameleon that comes with it again? Cheers!
-
Hi sam, May I know what myhack version you used to create the usb? Cheers!
-
Hi didds, ah... chicken and egg dilemma... If you can burn the snow leopard retail dvd iso to a usb or another partition and copy bootpack into it I think you are half way through. U just need to create a chameleon boot cd and use it to boot the usb or partition. With snow leopard dvd i think its easier to install without a working os x. Cheers!
-
Hi goatman, May I know what installation source you used to prepare the usb installer? It seems to me that your installation source or x3100 kexts may not be vanilla. I don't believe lion has a retail DVD, only installer app downloaded from app store and installer usb stick purchased from apple store. Cheers!
-
Hi didds, What do you have inside the iso? You may want to read the wiki above on how to prepare an os x usb installer from your retail cd so that you can install os x to your D620. Cheers!

D620 Snow Leopard USB pen created with MyHack 3 not working
Syonagar replied to moonman's topic in The Archive
Ho moonman, U can try this post to the create the usb installer using myhack 3:- https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1327-myhack-30/page__view__getnewpost__fromsearch__1 Cheers! -
Hi hepto & woodman, From what i've read, its seems that myhack 3 will install a generic extra to the usb installer. Try to run myhack again after preparing the usb installer, select Install Extra and use the bootpack from the wiki. Just make sure mach_kernel is boot with -f flag to ignore the extensions cache to be safe. As for first boot after installation, again run myhack from the usb installer (from what i've read its in the utilities menu) and install the bootpack to the new osx installation. After booting into os x for first time, run EDP and rebuild the extension cache in E/E and S/L/E with myfix and reboot. Cheers!

Hi cristosic, You can boot Windows 8 with chameleon. However, you need to reinstall the mbr, bootsector and bootmenu before you reinstall chameleon. The Windows 8 will detect both the windows 8 and Windows 7 partitition. I'm assuming you have updated your hybrid partition table off course. Cheers!

Triple-booting with Windows 7, OS 10.6, and Windows 8
Syonagar replied to cristoslc's topic in The Archive
Hi all... I just installed Windows 8 and was hoping I can boot it from chameleon after reinstalling chameleon. It seems that Windows 8 requires a windows created mbr (i.e. bootrec /fixmbr from rescue terminal) for it to list all windows operating system at the boot menu or even to boot Windows 8. Otherwise Windows 8 boot menu will either not list any operating system or restart upon selection. I not sure if this is common case / problem for everyone or maybe its just me. Interesting problem that needs solution. Cheers! Update #1 : I tried to boot using chemeleon from external hard disk and windows 8 boots normally. This further confirms my finding above. Update #2 : I just reinstall chameleon and chameleon can load Windows 8 and enter into boot menu. It sems the boot menu is superfluous to chameleon. Selected my existing Windows 7 and it does the normal restart and booted my Windows 7. So I guest it is possible to dual boot OS X and Windows 8. Need to rebuild the mbr, boot sector, rebuild bcd and and then reinstall chameleon. Cheers! -
Hi mark, You can create a chameleon boot cd. The only thing left is to find a way to open dmg from either windows or linux in order to transfer the necessary files to the usb. So far, i've yet to find a way to open dmg from either windows or linux as the dmg files is encrypted. Cheers!
