Hackintosh on dell latitude d420 hanging

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've used the installation guide here: http://www.osxlatitude.com/edp/documentation/on my latitude d420 however once it boots and starts the loading process it hangs on the grey apply screen with OSX LATITUDE logo on. Trying with OS X Lion.

I also could not find a bootpack for a d420 so tried with a d620.

If anyone could help with this installation that would be great thank you.

In a nutshell, D420 has 32bit-only CoreSolo/CoreDuo CPU and is limited to SL. Lion requires 64bit Core2Duo CPU (even though it has to run in 32bit kernel mode on GMA950 systems). Of all D4xx, only the D430 can run Lion, hence no bootpack for D420 other than SL's.

Ah ok sorry, should've looked, i'm currently experiencing an issue where when I use myHack it finished and says everything is fine but the USB stick is blank when I check it and it does not boot, do you know why this could be?

i think it depends on what os you used to make the installer. my hack is not compatible with yosemite as of yet. if you have the snow leopard retail disk image you can use disk utility to restore the disk to the usb then install my hack to the usb with your bootlick. also you need to install chameleon to it after.

To make a myHack Snow Leopard USB installer, use v3.1.2. We published this old version in the myHack subforum. For Lion, ML and Mavericks, you can safely use v3.3.1. Yosemite is not yet supported.

So I managed to get a bootloader going and starting the process of  booting but i get a kernel panic on booting: "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1456.1.25/iokit/Kernal/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1389"

Make sure you use a retail version of SL (10.6, 10.6.3 or 10.6.8) and install the SL D420 bootpack on your USB installer. You appear to be installing the very initial release of Snow Leopard, i.e. 10.6(.0).
