  1. Nope. My D430 is just taking some ZZZZ's back in my office. I thought, since you have tested it already, you might want to tell. THX
  2. Is it really boosting the volume? Although I have evereything opened up to the max, the sound volume is low. So, if it works like advertised, it might be a solution for me as well. THX!
  3. I know it's not what you are looking for, but anyways: I am also an D430 owner. Mic performance never really impressed me. And a lack of a embedded cam annoyed me. Hence, I spent a few bucks for a decent cam (Logitech QickCam VisionPro for Mac). It works out of the box, you have a HD picture and a very good sound for your Skype sessions. If you search a bit you'll find a lot lover price for this cam, no doubt. Just a suggestion.
  4. 8GB USB Stick is sufficient for your needs. You can format it, restore the retail SL DVD to it (Disk Utility) and install Chameleon on it like described here. After that you need to copy the content of the Extra.zip (same wiki article) and you are good to go. Boot from stick into the SL DVD image and run installation.
  5. Well, you actually have, You can install OS X in a VMWare virtual box in your Windows environment. There is a free version of VMWare able to do this. So, no need to steal. It takes around an hour and you will have an environment where you can format your USB drive (remember: GUID partition, Extended/Journaled and NOT case sensitive). If you can afford two sticks, even better: you might use one with your working solution and one to experiment around. This way you can always have your system up and running, even if something goes wrong with your experimental configuration. Your D520 is supported. The newest EDP package contains all kext (drivers) and fixes available for your machine. You don't need any other sources. However, although there are newer versions of Chameleon out there I suggest you stick with the one offered for download here. Later, when you have all things working, you can experiment with newer versions. Also, stick to described procedures, they are tested many times and produce very good results. I think the rest was covered by Bronxteck and CRC already. Have fun!
  6. Well, step by step goes the man. I don't have your machine but some of the things you are describing I heard of. Also, I don't know if all options of EDP I have you will have for your machine. However, look again into EDP 1.7. When you install the kexts via edptool, there are several options for mouse and trackpad. You might choose appleps2, voodoops2 and slice version of ps2 driver. Also, you can use two different power management setups, original Apple or (I think voodoo), well... "the other" power pack. I tried them all. In my case, if I choose this other power pack, Slice's modified PS2 and no support for PCMCIA cards, it works nice. However, sometimes after the sleep I might see random movements of the mouse, I might lose the keyboard or a even a mouse button. In my case it usually helps to start the screensaver (I configured the right top corner for this), leave it for a minute or two and try again. Or close the lid and leave it until sleep kicks in. Open the lid and try again. Most of the times this does the trick. Also, edptool offer some fixes I urge you to run (edptool, option 2) like touch to some crucial files, fixing of hibernation mode and such. Run them (at least first 3 of them), it might help. Usually does. I am no dev, so my ability to really dissect the issues you have are limited. However, devs will read and jump in soon.
  7. And than, if you are still not happy with the brightness of your display at 100% (like I wasn't with mine), go back to BIOS and find out if there is an item "surrounding light sensor" within the display setup. If so, and if it's turned on, just turn it off. That's what I did in my D430 BIOS. Since than I am running my display at 70-80%. Otherwise it's too bright.
  8. Thanks DeathTech! Your contribution is really appreciated. If you have any other hints, please feel free to offer it here.
  9. After update to 10.6.7 both my machines were having corrupt HD's. Wich they didn't have prior the update. I am using Onyx to check SMART attributes and volume integrity now and than. But especially prior an OS update. They were fine, but I needed to start from my external drive for both, repair the volumes and permissions to have them clean again. Actually I started to use OS X because Windows was just giving me too much trouble. It is bloated, prone to get even more bloated over time (with all the remains of uninstalled programs). It's losing performance over time and after a while only a complete new installation would heal this. Also, Service Pack 1 for Win7 was a nightmare. If you have more than one language installed and your default language is not English, it would brick the installation and end up in nirvana. Well, with the revenue and the market cap surpassing MS, Apple is apparently trying to surpass MS in sloppiness as well.
  10. Well, EDP 1.7 is an update strictly for OS X 6.7. It might KP in lower versions of OS X. So, whenever you are finished with restore boot into your OS X (whatever version this might be 10.6.0 or 10.6.3) Run EDP 1.7 installation Configure the system for d620 DO NOT REBOOT! Run OS X 6.7 combo update (download) Follow instructions there (restart of the machine) Now you should be fine. After your machine was updated to 6.7 and EDP 1.7 /Extra folder is in place - you are good to go.

Well, d430 - even with a GPU booster - is smooth with the first clip (Star Wars) and not all that bad with the last one. But the two in between are more like frame-by-frame. At least in higher resolutions. Well, it's no surprise with D430.
  12. Well, Gogle is usually a good starting point. But here the short cut: 1st Start Point: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/DSDT Now the quick guide: http://osx86.co/f84/a-quick-guide-to-dsdt-t3436/ And here some editing tips: http://osx86.co/f84/dsdt-editing-tips-t3900/ In a nutshell: http://tonycrapx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/create-and-modify-your-dsdtaml.html
  13. Hola Elites! It looks like release will be anytime soon. Also, I believe I saw Leon (and maybe someone else) mentioning ongoing tests and preparations for 10.6.7 in some of the threads. What are your experiences so far? Is it a minor release kernel and kext wise, or will there be a major change of EDP for this? Easy or rough ride? THX!

    Backup OSX86

CCC - Carbon Copy Cloner - http://www.bombich.com/ I make a bootable clone of my HD with it and am able to make an incremental backup as well. To the same cloned image. Very good and - free. Well - donation ware.
  15. Or even better: use Chromium. Especially if you don't want your browser to phone home and submit your usage patterns to Google Almighty.
  16. OK, I have installed slice's PS2 kext. After using it for a day or two now, I have experienced a weird behavior: after my machine came back from sleep, my keyboard and trackpad were both dead. However, my external USB mouse was working. Without support for the left button though. I could only use the right one. However, this didn't help a lot: the parts (but only parts!) of the UI were frozen. I could access the menu bar icons and programs behind them, but not the menues themselves. Not even the apple logo. Hence, I couldn't reboot the machine (keyboard and trackpad being dead and no apple menue). I decided to wait a bit and didn't power down the machine (had some unfinished work in there). Hence, the machine went back to sleep again after a while. After I woke it up again, everything was working again. Well, although it does not necessarily need to be related to the driver itself, I didn't have this kind of behavior before. Even if trackpad and external mouse lost their ways, the keyboard was still working. However, I had this weird behavior only once now. So, it might be something completely different causing this. I'l watch this closely and report if this repeats.
  17. OK. I need to try that. I saw one thread with something about those plates and paste. I believe you were the one who wrote it. Which products have you used? Well, since my reader doesn't I am probably an... oh, wait... nah! There must be another explanation. Not yet. I thought it's kinda experimental. But I'll give it a try. Nope. It's all bright and shiny now.
  18. Well, since some time now my D430 is working like a charm. At least as long as I don't try to use my docking station. But there are a few things which bothered or still bother me. Like docking station issue. Is there a solution for this, which I haven't found yet? Issue I just solved: dim screen. No matter what I did, my screen was dim, even if I turned the brightness to the max in BIOS and in OS X, using Fn+F12 keys. I read that some other people had the same issue. Here what I did: I found out that turning off the Surrounding Light Sensor in BIOS solves this. Since I turned this "feature" off, it's working great. I even need to dim it down manually now and than (Fn+F5 keys), since it is too bright in some cases. And power management (screen going dimmer if no activity) is still working. Go figure! Issue still there: sound volume. It's low. It's as low that Skype conversations are barely hearable. Watch a movie is a no go. I had no issues like that using Windows. Volume was usually set in the middle of the scale. I could watch movies, Skype and what not. All with volume in the middle. There is nothing I can turn on or off in BIOS (or I just oversaw it), like with dim screen. Any ideas how to solve this? There are some really minor irks as well (like temperature raising above 70°C now and than, although I have paid CoolBook with 55°C throttling enabled; biometric reader recognizing my finger print 1 out of 20 tries; mouse losing it's left button after the sleep now and than)... but... hey, I still have a nice HackAir with almost all things fine. So, I don't complain.
  19. Well, I didn't try that. It might have solved my issues as well. But, since my system is running smooth, I will not go back and try.

    d420 booting

Congratulations! You now have an Air, but not as expensive. Yes, IMHO 720p should work fine. You might also try to boost your GFX performance with this tutorial. It works fine on my D430.
  21. If I see this correctly, case sensitive file system is the culprit. Again. Well, welcome to the club! @Elites I think now is the time to put a very prominent, bold, CAPITAL CHARACTERS warning into the installation tutorial and instruct all new users NOT to use Extended/Journaled (Case-Sensitive) option formatting their HD's. Case Sensitive installation kinda messes up the otherwise straight forward and very easy hackintoshing of the DELL Dxx.
  22. Trying hard to give some support back, which you and others gave to me.
  23. First of all: welcome! You have found the best forum for hackintoshing your laptop! One question: have you formatted your HD with the option Extended (Journaled) Case Sensitive? If so, you are about to repeat the whole installation. Extended Journaled is the only way to go. I am talking out of my own experience and your described issues kinda mirror my own. You can read all about it in this thread. EDIT: Somewhere from post #80 we came nearer to the core of the issues I had. You see, you are saving time. Please do check.
  24. What he said! And I know what he is talking about. It cost me a week and some 4-5 installations until I found out that "case sensitive" is a different description for "weird issues".
  25. I had no issues whatsoever with EDP 1.5RC6 since I mad a new install. However, I installed EDP1.5RC7 (Final Release?) and, midway in working with Disk Utility (just adding a new partition to my USB external drive) I had a KP. After the reboot I could finish what I was doing with nor further issues. It might be an one time issue, I simply don't know yet. BTW: I aim to install CoolBook. Can someone tell me what the desired temperature limit I should apply to the temperature throttle for my D430? THX!
