D630n - Mavericks 10.9 GM/Mainstream/Updates installation
Hervé replied to Hervé's topic in The Archive
Installed public 10.9 release (Build 603) over my GM build 598 installation. Experienced some odd behaviour with installation itself but that might have been something I did wrong. Anyway, once latest version was installed, everything worked as before. SSD users must remember to check and possibly re-enable TRIM afterwards. ML boot pack can be totally re-used and EDP system build can be done exactly as for ML; there really is no difference there. Eventually re-did a fresh/clean installation and all was Ok. -
So, did you manage to boot into Mavericks? For your wireless, open up a Terminal window and type the lspci -nn command to display all your hardware specs and paste the result here.
-
You can't boot Mavericks with arch=i386 !!! That means 32bit kernel mode. Remove it or boot with option arch=x86_64 and you should be good to go. You can then edit your Chameleon boot plist.
-
Danelly, check if it's available at the root of your USB installer to copy if from there. If not, I'll try to upload it here for you once I get home. I would not reboot meantime...
-
Try to manually specify your kernel at Chameleon bootstrap by entering: mach_kernel. If you manage to boot, I'd check what's specified in the Chameleon boot plist (in /Extra) in case it's referring to an invalid file. If you cannot boot off your HDD installation, boot off the USB installer then open up Terminal to verify the contents of your HDD root with command: ls -la. File mach_kernel is expected at HDD root level.
-
Can you post a picture of the crash or KP you get at boot time? You can worry about the wireless once Mavericks can boot again...
-
You did the EDP system build, right? Or just installed EDP then rebooted? I'll try Mavericks on a friend's D830 nVidia 135M probably next week.
-
Then, the current system profile may not match your actual hardware. Try and identify the most likely MacBook match in the Apple list and edit your SMBIOS plist + FakeSMC accordingly. Or try NullCPUPowerManagement as indicated in that old post.
-
As long as you've set your BIOS according to the recommended parameters, updated your Chameleon bootloader to v2246 or later, used the correct DSDT (LoRes or HiRes) and followed the guide step by step, you should be Ok. Add the -v bootflag to see where MLPF boot fails, but you must have missed something along the way.
-
If you just need cheap and cheerful, I recommend one of those nVidia GeForce GT6x0 based cards. I'm using a GT610 and it's perfect for my little needs.

Ha true, you WERE that forum member! Then you have nothing more to do, I already setup your system for native SpeedStep. Do you still see the CPU throttling in HWMonitor? If T° remains high and fan often on full speed, you could look into opening the laptop to clear it off any dust residue that may have gathered in front of the fan and also renew the thermal paste for better cooling.
-
Yes, it would break everything. You need to re-run a myHack 10.9 installer over your ML installation. You won't lose anything but that is the only safe way to upgrade to Mavericks.

Anyone installed 10.8.5 successfully on their E65xx?
Hervé replied to daspazz's topic in The Archive
If CPU Dynamic Acceleration, is enabled in your BIOS, disable it. It seems it's lowering your CPU + RAM speed... -
That would be the emulated SpeedStep and that is available through EDP System Build kext options. For native SpeedStep, which is better, look at the article I posted last May about tuning performance with FakeSMC kext. Enabling SpeedStep in the BIOS does not necessarily result in SpeedStep being activated on a Hackintosh, quite the contrary. You often need the appropriate software (emulated SpeedStep kext + monitoring apps) or one of the recent FakeSMC kext from Kozlek. In your case (i.e. M4400 laptop), you will gain native SpeedStep by following the procedure explained in my article; I've validated it with a forum member on his M4400 very recently.
-
You probably don't have SpeedStep running, neither natively, nor through emulated SpeedStep tools such as PState. Have a look at the article and/or research section post on the matter to try things out.

Do a search for "ModCD D420" or "ModCD D430" with Author set to "Hervé" on forum section "D4xx" for stuff posted since, say, "July 1st" for instance. Bear in mind that what you're looking for may not be in the 1st search result of course...
-
When you do the EDP System Build, try the ANV-Slice PS2 kext pack to start with; this used to be the recommended PS2 kext pack for ML until the newer pack detailed and released on the forum appeared.
-
I posted a very detailed guide for ModCD SL installation on D420/D430 in this very section not that long ago. Just do a search please.

Please make the effort to post a suitable table that is limited to the hardware specifications. I don't think the carry case or the McAfee antivirus are of any value here.
-
How quick does the laptop reboot? You might want to try with option "GeneratePStates=No" and/or "GenerateCStates=No".
-
Mario, no boot so no Disk Utility... Alexandre, are you able to list your hardware specs at all? Did you try to boot with option: cpus=1 ?
-
Yes and if you press Esc/Space/Enter a few times, it tends to go away...

You will find that we usually place posts about results of an update of a particular OS X version and on a given model under Research section or Support -> Software matters -> Mac OS X. In your particular case, we have several threads or posts on the matter but to summarize things, you can safely update either through Apple Menu or through Combo update. As a general rule, we recommend to re-run EDP System Build after an update to be on the safe side.

[Solved] Error on D630 ML install with EDP5: can't get <class docf> etc
Hervé replied to mr freckles's topic in The Archive
The above problem was solved. This matter is closed. If your ISP is too blocking the EDP download, there's little we can do about it. You can verify this by clicking on the little arrow icon at the bottom of the EDP installation pop-up window when you run the EDP installation image. You should see lots of line listing the various files being downloaded. If you're not seeing anything and end up with an empty /Extra folder, you need to contact your ISP or check your own router firewall if you have one and get SVN downloads allowed through. No we cannot and will not upload a snapshot of /Extra folders next to each model. That would take too much storage space and it would never fit everyone's needs. Not everyone had the same Wireless card or bluetooth or whatever. This is the very reason why we have a centralised EDP system that looks up your model and downloads only what you need. -
I'm talking about the indicated section of the forum. You have noticed the forum was arranged in sections & subsections, haven't you?
