New SL Install - "You need to restart your Computer"
Hervé replied to BigDanTex's topic in The Archive
There's a quicker way. Check what's reported in System Preferences (Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> More info/System report). In hardware section, you'll see a PCI item. Your wireless card should be listed there with details of Vendor id and Device Id. Intel Vendor id is 0x8086, so if you have that, you need to change your card since Intel cards are not supported by Mac OS X. The DW1490, DW1390 or DW1395 (the latter requiring a kext) are possible replacements. All those are 54Mbps cards (802.11g). You can also opt for 300Mbps card (802.11n). -
Well, to start with, there is no ML bootpack for the D630 GMA, so you have to make your own from the other ones. But it's perfectly do-able. Now, I can't repeat this enough, there is really no point in installing ML on this D630. I've done it myself and I can confirm that it will boot Ok and well (I still have the installation on a HDD), but with default CPU-handled graphics since there are no kexts to load. The machine appears quite usable until graphics acceleration has to be called. At that point, it all becomes very painful: web browsing can be next to unusable, no video/graphics animation can be viewed (eg: flashplayer won't install) and you can get severe graphics disruption on screen with degraded system performance as the CPU can't handle the load. Even something as basic as moving the mouse over a window slider bar causes artefacts... So, again, there's absolutely no point in wasting time installing ML on the D630 GMA. It's nearly as unusable as Win XP on a Pentium 233Mhz with 64Mo EDO RAM)...

Which version of Chameleon is that D520 now running? Did you try to re-install EDP's older version (v2.1 r1791 if memory serves me right...)? Make sure the NVRAM module is out before reboot.
-
Your installation sounds just right with what should be expected. Re: brightness, is it set to maximum in the BIOS?

You simply buy it off Apple web site/app store for the astronomical sum of USD $20/EUR 18€! No hesitation to be had...

New SL Install - "You need to restart your Computer"
Hervé replied to BigDanTex's topic in The Archive
Which version of SL are you installing? What did you choose when running EDP? I'd opt for "my own settings" and select patched AppleHDA for audio. I'm also a bit surprised by your VoodooHDA version (2.7.2) because I believe EDP installs a much more recent version... install the following EDP kexts: - VoodooPS2 controller - nullCPUPowerManagement - sleep enabler - TSCsync - patched STAC9205 for D630 - Voodoo battery Your system KPs with VoodooHDA 2.7.2, so that kext needs to be replaced. -
Just look in your system preferences (Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> System Report/Pref). Get the device id and look it up on PCI database web site. If it's Intel, you'll have to change it by a comptaible card.

What CPU do you have? How are your BIOS settings? Do you have a compatible Wireless card?
-
Did you try to open up the Network Preference Panel and click on '+' button at the bottom of the window to add the card manually? Does it register in the System Profile (the card should be listed in PCI & Network)?

Well, either the unknown 140m Gremlin or the ML app itself...

No, a pre-r2169 Cham bootloader + FileNVRAM.dylib module "just" prevents boot-up. It has no effect on kexts in /E/E or on the boot flags. That verbose boot could be a side affect of multiple OS X partitions on a drive where the 1st partition boot plist takes precedence...

Hmm, some people reported trouble with the nVidia 140m, but we never got to the bottom of the problems. Others had no issue at all... I'd say your installer is dodgy not to say totally f***ed up! Sorry for asking, but did you create your installer according to our procedure (myHack + retail OS X version + D830 nVidia bootpack)? Did you use a Virtual Machine to create your installer? I never had any issue myself (and I've done a few ML installations on D830s now), but the D830s were all nVidia 135m based and I never used a virtual machine for my installer. The only option I've used to avoid BT/keyboard issues was: USBBusFix=No.

You just don't know what you're talking about... EDP has been updated with one of the latest Chameleon fixes in order to sort out the (infamous) iMessage problem following Apple's recent changes. There is now a NVRam Chameleon module in /Extra/modules which requires to update the bootloader to v2.1 r2169 or higher. Latest EDP v4 does that. So, if you have not updated your Chameleon bootloader (you can either update online or copy the 'boot' file from /Extra/storage to HDD root), do it, or remove that NVram module from /Extra/modules. You'll then be able to boot normally. That has already been mentioned on the forum. This being said, if you were running/using EDP v1.9.2, you're quite far behind now and have not obviously followed the development for a good year or so. Sorry we did not wait for you... EDP is now up to v4! You need to re-install your full EDP package (not update it) and start from there.
-
???? Says who? Non sense! You just have to update your Chameleon boot loader to v2.1 R2170 (or later) on that USB key or remove the NVRAM module from /Extra/modules.

What version of Lion are you installing? It has to be a retail version or it won't have all the necessary installation files...
-
Do a search on VMware based installer creation. It's a known troublesome method... Have a look at what various people did to get it going, but clearly, your problem is there.
-
We aim to please, but there's a minimum members of the forum are expected to do. Don't expect much in terms of development on the D6x0 either.
-
No, it's a known issue that has already been reported. No fix that I know of.
-
do a search for slow shutdown on the forum. You'll find explanation + solution.

D620 Dual Boot - Can't boot into SL 10.6.8 without USB

Look at the blog entries on OSXL main web site. Just activate the OS X partition using 'diskpart' from DOS command line... -
Do a search on the forum, that has already been greatly discussed and resolved.

ML behaves a tad differently than previous OS X versions... What if you open the SysPref Monitor pane, press ALT and select 'detect monitors'? Doesn't your external LCD get detected then? -
I guess it would require some DSDT tuning to work. If you know anyone with the right skills and knowledge who would also happen to have the required hardware, you could make people happy...
-
Hi, we don't support unifail, there's another site for that. Try and remove the offending kext, you never know... I'd invite you to try the myHack installer and we can take it from there.
