you have to be careful a lot of times with HP laptops there bios will error out if you change wifi cards that are not "HP Approved" some BIOS have a white list embedded in it
have you created a new installer or are you still working with the same installer disk? it could be corrupted. can you run a disk repair and permissions fix on it with disk utility?
not only HP has the issue but it's worth a shot. you can call it lapic_kernel put it in the root of your drive then call it from the chameleon boot screen. lapic_kernel -v
