chimera (chameleon, stolen and rebranded) is your bootloader, which makes your system bootable. We prefer to use Chameleon bootloader and the MyHack installer.

If it is booting to the Chameleon screen, it is active. I read the entry indicating no patching was necessary, but I am not as familiar with your machine and your setup or the Graphics card used as Hervé is. The different vendor and device ID's can impact how they work with the system and whether they will work OOB or not. His familiarity with the system makes him the one to check with. In the meantime, you can try GraphicsEnabler=Yes at boot.

Your OSx partition isn't booting because it isn't active since you installed Windows after installing OSx. You will need to make it active. Once you make it active you will boot into Chameleon and can choose which operating system to boot into. To make it active do the following: Open Applications/Utilities/Terminal. Type diskutil list Write down the IDENTIFIER of your Apple_HFS Mountain Lion drive. I'm using this example: disk0s2. (change the number after rdisk below to your disk number if different) Type sudo -s Enter your password. Type fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0 Type y Type fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 Type p (this will tell you which partition OSx is installed on) Type f 2 Type w Type y Type Exit to Close Terminal and then reboot. You should now boot into Chameleon. Interrupt the loading by tapping the enter key, and use the left and right arrow keys to highlight the OS you wish to boot into and hit Enter. If you do not boot into Chameleon you may have to reinstall it. Use you USB to boot into OSx, go to Applications, click on the MyHack application, enter your password, then using the drop down menu, choose Install Chameleon, choose to install it to your OSx drive. Your Graphics card probably needs a kext or injection to work, if you let us know which version of Mountain Lion you are running, someone here will assist you. It is recommended you update to the version you want using your on board graphics prior to posting.

As with anything, errors can occur. I presume he means things such as can normally go wrong - corrupt downloads (partially due to where you got it from - torrents often fail), fine tuning with the proper kexts, human error in creating the bootstick and installing it, proper BIOS settings, hardware failing, etc..

Actually, (keeping in mind this is the DP's), the install is easier. It's just a straight forward MyHack install, without having to modify any kexts, with everything seeming to work. Just keep in mind, by the time the GM comes around, there will likely be a lot of changes, and it may not be as easy. If you have access to the DP and want to try it, I suggest creating a partition on your OSx drive to install it to.

First, which card is in your D830? You may have an unsupported card, or one that requires a kext (driver). Obviously, an unsupported one will need to be replaced, with a supported one, a kext can be added after the install if needed. If you know which kext you need, it can be added to the USB. Use the appropriate bootpack (there are two for your model) by adding it to you USB stick. With about two minutes left in the install, you will get a pop-up asking whether to use a Generic Extra or you own, choose your own, and OK. A pop-up will appear with a directory of your USB stick - find the Extra folder and choose it. Continue with the install, choosing to delete the three kexts that pop-up. I often use a USB on which I have created two partitions on, one for the installer and a separate partition for various kexts I may need. Just be sure to name the partitions clearly to avoid confusion when using them. You can then move the kext(s) from the USB and install on your OSx partition using the MyFix feature in MyHack, after putting the needed kext into the Extra/Extensions folder (when you use MyHack to install, a copy of it is installed into your applications folder - open it and choose MyFix (Full) from the dropdown menu, making sure to choose / (your drive) as the destination. where It will install the kext, repair permissions and rebuild kext caches. I suggest running MyFix after any changes (adding kexts, updating, etc.)

Thanks to both mrbryan for the workaround and KOLIBERk for the confirmation and making the patched airportd accessible for those unfamiliar with how to do so. I have a DW1510 (rebranded) and was unable to confirm this workaround, but another member indicated it did not work for them.

Sleep, for whatever reason, seems to be hit or miss. Some have indicated success, but others, such as myself, have suspend to ram, which is what you get setting hibernate mode to 0. The animations issue may be caused by conflicting versions of AppleACPIPlatform kext - 1.3.5 in your E/E folder and 1.7 in your S/L/E folder (you do have nVidia graphics, correct? - Intel graphics are problematic, no fix has yet been found for the Intel GMA4500MHD graphics). Delete the version 1.7 in your S/L/E folder and run MyFix (Full version) in MyHack or repair permissions and rebuild kext cache. DaFob indicated it was necessary to reinstall the edited nVidia kexts after upgrading to 10.8.2 (if needed, they are available in my thread "Mountain Lion Anyone", in the first post), others have not found this necessary. If you are contemplating an upgrade to 10.8.4, you may as well wait to do these fixes as these issues may occur again after that upgrade. Also with the 10.8.4 upgrade, WiFi formats and configurations are changing and it will likely break WiFi if you are using a card that relies on a kext (such as DW1397). If you have a card that worked OOB, you should be safe (that would be any card recognized by a Mac (the DW1510 fits that description)).

Sorry, I didn't think to ask which BIOS version you were on. I usually assume (and yes, I know what assume does) that the BIOS has been updated prior to installation and it's usually an afterthought. At any rate, glad to see you figured it out and all is well.

Nichod, Did you use MyHack to install OSx on this? I'm looking at an M6500 (i7) and considering this as an upgrade to my E6500. Just wondering if you ever went with the M6500 and if there were any issues with install (on either/both)?

First, we need to know which version of ML you are trying to install (10.8.0 - 10.8.4). Usually this occurs because you need to roll back the IOPCIPlatform. kext to an earlier version or replace it with a modified one.

Unfortunately there were some casualties in the changes Apple has incorporated into their new WiFi utilities and If memory serves me correctly the DW1397 was one of them. I'm not sure anyone has resolved this yet. A new card may be in order. Cards that work OOB will have the most longevity. My vote is for the DW1510, which can also be found listed as PW934.

You may view the Topic "Mountain Lion Anyone". The first post gives a comprehensive guide on installing, running and updating ML on the E6400/E6500. Post to that thread if you have issues with getting it running. One note - you will need NVidia graphics.

The migration to new Wi-Fi formats has broken some Wi-Fi cards, remind me of which card you have. Read post #397 above and try that to see if it works for you.

Just noticed DP 4.1 has dropped - will be downloading and evaluating. Another significant update of 1.27GB. Will advise of success/issues. Initial evaluation brings no obvious issue to the plate. After a download, restart and a MyFix (Full) - 13A524d seems safe. I don't see it in EDP. Just being an Atheros card doesn't mean it is compatible, just as not all Broadcom cards are not compatible. I would be more concerned with finding if the BIOS in that has white listed WiFi cards, and if so, if there is a mod for that BIOS to bypass the white list. With respect, we can not do all of this for you. You will have to go to the sites suggested and look or ask. Maybe use Google (put in the model number and add the word hackintosh). The results will give you an idea of what you're in for based on others experiences and if you're up to the challange. It will also give you the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge. Don't be afraid of failing, we've all done it and it can be learning experience as well as a motivating one. That's how progress is made.

There are several cards that fit the bill. As Jake Lo has indicated the DW1510 works OOB and has the benefit of being able to be rebranded - that is, the software can be manipulated to be recognized by the system as Airport, making it unlikely they can phase it out. There is a how to for rebranding on the site, written by Leon. There are other Atheros cards that work and are half height. It's best to do it right initially so as the migration to new WiFi formats take place, your old hardware isn't left behind. Also, another tip if looking for a DW1510 on eBay (or other places) is search for PW934. It is the same card, just listed differently (and often cheaper). EDIT: A quick Google of "DW1520 kext" indicates no success as of yet, despite a great deal of effort to get it working in OSx.

The card (in the above quote) you have indicated is a DW1520, which is unsupported by OSx.

There are NO kexts that will make that card run in OSx, you will not find it in EDP as a result.

Based on the specs from HP, it will ship with an incompatible card. EDP may have listed it for the rest of the setup, just as it does with other models, but with the understanding that the WiFi card needs to be swapped out. Did you check to see if there is a white list in the 4530s's BIOS? And if there is, did you go to a place like biosmods.com to either see if they have modded a BIOS for that machine or submit a request to have the BIOS modded? Also, as I indicated in the previous post, if your BIOS needs to be modded, make yourself aware of how to properly flash the BIOS and be aware of the consequences of doing it wrong.

Is windows not booting? You will need to repair the bootloader, Grub has a tendency to break it.

Jake Lo & cuppscakes, the indication that the Invalid Partition Table was eliminated by a different version of Chameleon led me to believe it was a Chameleon compatibility error, but the "Allocate kernel memory" error in safe mode had me puzzled. I mistakenly thought that the AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext that you added to the guide had been patched to resolve the resolution issue.

First, as I pointed out, you have to see if the card in your Latitude is a full sized card or a half height card (DW 1510 in an example of a half sized card, the size of the card that will fit in this HP). If you have a full sized card, it won't fit in. Second, as iMick pointed out, you need to see if the BIOS in the HP has a "White List". That is a list of cards that the BIOS will allow to work. If it does, you are limited to those cards unless you modify the BIOS to eliminate that "White List". As indicated previously, you also have to choose a card that is supported by OSx - "some random laptop wireless card" may not work - as is the case with the card it comes with. Might I suggest you start with biosmods. com to see if they have any information about whether the BIOS in the HP has a "White List" or a modded BIOS has been created for it. Then read up carefully on flashing BIOS and potential problems if done wrong before doing so. If you find out there is no white list or if there is, and you flash your bios with a mod successfully, then you are down to finding OSx compatible cards that are half height. UPDATE: Since I now know you are using a D830 - it uses a full sized card and won't fit in the HP.

If there is an Intel Wi-Fi card installed, you will have to replace it with a compatible one. Without out knowing which type of card the Latitude uses (or which model it is), it's hard to tell if you can switch. It appears the card in the HP is half height. If the Latitude uses a half height card, you should be able to switch.
