  1. Two things might affect the proc speed - Check without battery being plugged in (will also be impacted if using wrong wattage power adaptor, these require a 90W) and check your Dynamic Acceleration settings in BIOS. STR is not like regular sleep. After using those commands, the computer will go into a sleep like state with current processes information being "held" by the ram. A short tap on the power button will allow you to resume.
  2. Congratulations on your success, sorry I didn't make it clearer that the kexts would work with Lion, but you figured it out. I assume you installed VooDooBattery.kext also. For now, avoid EDP as it hasn't worked for the E6400/6500 series. I believe there is a movement toward revising it to make it more universal for all makes/models. Unfortunately, updating the bios will require Windows or a DOS Boot key. Any other issues that pop up - you know where to find help.
  3. See if this helps: add the line 'max_valid_dma_addr=1024' to your Kernel flags in your com.apple.Boot.plist
  4. First, Welcome to the community. Your system is the "big Brother/Sister" to the E6400. We have compiled a write up on installation of Mountain Lion titled "Mountain Lion Anyone?" The issues you are referring to can be resolved using the kexts linked in that forum (VooDooHDA 2.7.4.kext, VooDooBattery.kext etc.). Bluetooth should work natively, make sure you turned it back on in BIOS & the switch on the right side is on. True sleep has not been achieved, but if you are familiar with STR (Suspend To Ram), it works quite nicely. In terminal, use these commands: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage If you have issues you are unable to solve, feel free to ask for additional assistance. One more thing. You may want to update your bios to A27, the latest for this model.
  5. Try this: http://blog.yerkanian.com/2012/09/20/updated-fix-for-still-waiting-for-root-device-on-os-x-10-8-2-mountain-lion/. It can be used in Terminal or booting into single user (-s boot) mode for installation issues
  6. Sleep has always been a hit or miss issue with these, if you are successful, post how you got it working for others to see. I for one have never gotten true sleep working on my E6500, but for me, the sleep to ram is fine. VooDooHDA 2.7.4 works reasonably well, there are some possibilities of reworking audio, but nothing definite yet. Intel WiFi cards are not supported by OSx, your best bet is a Broadcom one, search on eBay foe DW1510 (or PW934, same card, just listed differently - sometimes cheaper this way). Let us know if you need help.
  7. Replace the IO80211Family kext using this: http://www.mediafire.com/?8zvpa722gqjdzdx, It is rolled back from 10.6.8 with the BC4312 ID added to it.
  8. Maybe this will help: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf On the USFF there are no PCI slots, it uses only the Q965, limiting you to the integrated graphics. Additionally, even if this model included the slot, the size constraints and 220W power supply would severely limit graphics add on options.
  9. D630man, make sure you have a supported WiFi card (Dell 1390). Also Seb has included a package of kexts at the bottom of the initial post in this thread which should help the touch pad issue.
  10. If you click on the tab at the top of the page you will see it stands for Extended Driver Package, a package of kexts designed for a specific model.
  11. Have you put a Broadcom card in there? They (the E6410's) usually come with Intel cards, which will not work. See the original guide, the 8/24 edit, it will explain what needs to be done after switching the cards..
  12. 10.8.2 itself required re-installation of the NVidia kexts but the supplemental update didn't create any new issues. The re-edited kexts for 10.8.2 are at the bottom of the first post. Good Luck.
  13. Glad you were able to install!
  14. The question mark will usually occur in the Dock when it has "lost" the location for it. Think of it has a broken shortcut in Windows. It seems that your system is recognizing your drive, but Kext Wizard is not. Try rebooting your system, make sure your drive is recognized, then open Kext Wizard and see if it recognizes the drive. Also, go into disk utility and use verify disk on the installer drive, the report may provide information why Kext Wizard isn't recognizing it. I have re-read your posts. Is your problem that the installer loads (you create the flash drive, get to the installer screen, but doesn't progress)? That's what I'm getting from your first post. If so, check all relevant areas in BIOS ( some may be SATA, eSATA, RAID, SATA 6G) to make sure each one is set to ACHI.
  15. The first question usually asked when there is a problem like this is where is the image from? If from a torrent, the corruption is often from the source, a Mac App Store image is best. The two other culprits I would look at are is the drive healthy, been properly formatted and partitioned?, and the same with the flash drive. It may be coincidental, but errors I've experienced of a similar nature were with a Kingston Data Traveler. Also, if using the E6400/6500 bootback, did you remove the Arch key and i386 string from the org.chameleon.boot.plist as indicated in the guide?
  16. There have been instances, usually on updates, where you get an indication that the install failed, when in reality it installed normally. Check to make sure this isn't the case.
  17. Three things: 1. As Herve said, list specs of your computer, 2. Use an Apple App Store downloaded copy of ML (Torrents cause all sorts of problems) and 3. If ncpi=0x2000 0r ncpi=0x3000 don't work, did you swap out the IOPCIFamily.kext for the one here: http://rghost.net/36725213
  18. It seems to me that all these thoughts are those of level-headed, forward thinking people. Unfortunately, those who run the countries (and I'm not only referring to the politicians, but the special interest groups, the greedy corporate people and those who just don't care to agree with virtually anyone), are not inclined to see things that clearly. We'll also need people with ba11s and backbones to put forth these ideas and stand behind them as well as judges (those who aren't politically indebted) to enforce these principals as well as building the fences around our institutions high enough to keep the violators in.
  19. Herve, After my initial response, it dawned on me that I'd never heard of a GMA X3100 in the E6400/E6500 series, so I asked for them to go into BIOS to check. In my thread Mountain Lion Anyone, on page 10, there was a member who indicated he had some success with the GMA4500 MHD graphics. He hasn't been heard from since that point, so I have no idea if he has followed up with it or has had continued success. It appears he is using the same kext. I would also like to know how it works out so if successful, if so, it can be incorporated into the guide.
  20. Unfortunately, the GMAX3100 does not currently have support in Mountain Lion from Apple. Although I have not tried it (I have NVidia NVS 160M), there is something here: http://www.osx86.net/video-graphics/13703-intel-gma-x3100-kext.html that might be worth looking into, as it may make your graphic more usable Please go into your BIOS (do so by repeatedly tapping the f2 key during startup). You will boot into the BIOS screen. Scroll down to the bottom, look for the VIDEO CONTROLLER section. As far as I am aware, there are two options for video controllers. They are: NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 160M 256MB DDR3* or Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD* Please let us know which one you have. You can escape BIOS by hitting the exit button, your E6500 should boot normally after (but maybe slower as it searches for any changes to BIOS)
  21. I think you may have meant a DW 1510 - the 1390 is a full sized card that fits in D Series Dell laptops.
  22. If still having issues: WiFi is likely an unsupported card, try replacing with an Apple recognized one. Try VooDooSDHC.kext in E/E for SD card reader, although it might not be recognized by the system.
  23. Can a card such as the Dell DW1702 be configured to resolve both Bluetooth and WiFi issues on D Series models? Or more correctly stated can these models be configured to use a card such as the DW1702?
  24. Read post #193 in the Mountain Lion Anyone thread. A member (who has not been heard from since) seems comfortable with what he has been able to do with an E6400 with GMA (Intel) Graphics. Read what he had to do and his results and see if you feel comfortable undertaking this for the results he achieved. Also keep in mind that I'm not sure anyone else has confirmed or replicated this. The E6400 should have a minimum of a 2.26GHz processor. If I understand correctly, you can use the parts from the other machines(?), thus having 4GB RAM at your disposal. You might also want to check on resale value to see what you can get (and use for a replacement if you don't get the desired results.
  25. You can get a Dell DW 1510 (also search PW934, they are the same, might be cheaper that way) on eBay. Should work without issue just directly replacing it.
